Week 2

Saturday, November 03, 2012

It's Saturday morning, week 2 of SP. I have gone from 201 to 206, which makes me super happy - getting under the dreaded 200 seems actually possible!

On the down side, this morning I'm feeling sciatic nerve pain, which means that even though I used almost no weight at all in my group weightlifting class yesterday, I must have moved wrongly at some point during the class.

I injured my back 20 years ago and it occasionally comes back to haunt me; I know what to do, but it's still a downer especially as I have Pilates today which is a potential low back minefield. I'm good at modifying exercises, but occasionally I get overconfident and overdo (like yesterday, apparently).

I can heal my body.
I can heal my body.
I can heal my body.
I can heal my body.
I can heal my body.

Autumnprincess, thanks for the kind words (and for reading my whole blog - wow!). I know what you are saying about the notification system, but if I go back and forth from page to page, I can hardly figure out who is saying what about what?

I like to keep the conversation in one place for continuity's sake and for other readers (and me!) to be able to follow it. Perhaps I should post the same response in both places to be sure the person I'm replying to sees it?

I'm sorry that happened to you, but at least you know its from moving wrong or overdoing. If it was me, I'd skip the Pilates and do something else, walk or something that is gentle on the back, and give it a chance to heal.

Also, just a tip--if you comment to ppl on your own blog or page, they will go back to their own page and probably not visit this same blog again, and will not see it. It's not like facebook where there is an on-going feed. You actually need to click on their pic and go to their page to make your comment then they will get an email that they have a new comment on their page. =)

Thanks Linda! My low back injury was over 20 years ago and it only flares up when I overdo. This was just a little owie, not enough to need to visit my chiro this time, I can stretch it out at home. Feeling a lot better today.

Sciatica sucks! I've found that stretching on a stability ball really helps with mine. But, when it flares up too much, I go to my chiropractor. I haven't had to take pain killers for over two years now. Take care of yourself!

Thanks for the support, DIET_FRIEND. :)

I decided to skip the Pilates class because surrounded by a group I always push myself harder, and instead I did several of the seated-in-a-chair exercise videos I found on SP.

Take it easy and don't get an injury! I am excited for you to enter One-derland! Hope I'll be there with you before too long.

Big Burrito

Thursday, November 01, 2012

Yesterday I forgot to bring my lunch to work, so I bought a steak burrito from the food truck. I ate part of it at lunch and part of it a couple of hours later. I noticed that it digested very slowly and felt heavy in my stomach, even though I didn't eat it all at once.

According to all the trackers my nutrition for the day was well within specs, but my weight was up a bit this morning. I think it is a good example to show that not all foods are created equal.

I am noticing that I feel better when I eat a variety of foods throughout the day, than splurging my calories on one item and trying to make up for it the rest of the day.

I think I will have to eat only half a burrito from now on, and save the other half for the next day.

Haha, somehow that sounds even more gross, to have 24 hour old food still in my body!

I remember reading somewhere that meat doesn't really digest in our bodies, it decomposes and therefore takes longer. I will have to investigate whether this is actually true or not.

It's true, foods are not all created equal. But also, the burrito you ate for lunch yesterday isn't already digested and stored as fat. Your weight is probably up because you still have the actual food and water in your body, not processed. Don't let it discourage you.

Wow, that is JUST what I've been looking for. Now we can look and see what we need to eat if we're trying to get more potassium, or more iron, or whatever. THANKS!!

Week One

Saturday, October 27, 2012

It's Saturday morning, nearing the end of my first week using SP. I am finding the site immensely helpful to maintain accountability with regard to my food and exercise.

I started partway through the week, so I will most likely fall short of my goals this first week, but as of today I am down 2 pounds and feeling quite pleased with myself.

Sparked! :)

Thank you so much everyone for the positive comments. Autumnprincess, I love the cans idea! What shall it be... beans, pumpkin, corn? :)

Way to go on that 2 lbs, GREAT JOB!!!! You are on your way and off to a fantastic start! Now go get yourself one of those re-usable grocery bags and put 2 16-ounce cans in it (2 lbs) and each week, add "your weight in cans" to it. Then when ever you pass it, do a few curls. Feel it. Experience how much weight you are no longer wearing. I mean, it isn't like picking up a child but it has weight to it, and that is 2 lbs you aren't carrying around anymore. YAY You!!!
