Family Vacation for Spring Break

Monday, March 28, 2011

This was a trip of a lifetime for the four of us! We had a 9 Day Carribean Cruise aboard the beautiful Norwegian Dawn. Our first cruise, and we loved it! Of course my 16 year old loved the fact he could eat 24-7, and he did!!! The food was awesome, not to mention being pampered and served. How glorious no chores for me, just had to relax.

The ports of call were Dominican, Virgin Islands, Antiqua, Barbados, and St. Kits. Very beautiful islands, and the beaches were gorgeous! A little fact for you, there are more monkeys on the island of St. Kits than people, and they are very cute, what kid didn't want to take one home. The exercise was lots and lots of walking. Sure didn't mind in the hot weather, gives you such a lift as it has been months since the sun felt sooo good. It still continues to feel like winter at home, minus temperatures.

Now pumped with Vitamin D I have returned to being mom the maid, while dreaming of my next adventure. I want to cruise again, seems the way to go, like an inclusive resort, but get to see many places of interest. I am a very motion sick person, so it only took 17 years for my husband to talk me into it, and I was fine. Two rough nights, and gravol did the trick, so happy it turned out so well.

The boys made some wonderful friendships on the ship, and with the thanks to facebook they can keep in touch. It was a wonderful to see them have so much fun, and see different countries. They have only been to Florida, so this was awesome for them, and I am blessed we all got to do it together.

I only went up 4 pounds which is great since I was really getting into the desserts, ordered anything you wanted on the menus, so I did lose control near the end of the cruise. I think all the walking saved the scale too.

Anyways time to do the chores, I can dream about the next trip. Oh ya I must save some money first, darn!!

Your cruise sounds like it was a blast! My kids and I have never been outside of Canada so I think we are very long overdue. I am glad you made it home safe and everyone is happy! 4 lbs is not bad and should be easy to get rid of!

Sounds like a GREAT vacation! I LOVE cruising and miss being able to take one this spring. Hopefully next year!

I went to Antigua, Barbados, and St Kitts (as well as St Lucia, St Thomas, and Bahamas) on my first cruise with Princess but I have to tell you, the monkeys in St Kitts gave me the creeps!

The food is REALLY tempting but you're right, you can do an awful lot of walking on the ship as well as on shore excursions. Good for you for keeping active!

Weight Loss

Tuesday, March 01, 2011

The sun is shining today which helps greatly as this winter has been soooo long. Still lots of snow on the ground, but nice to feel the sunshine.

I am happy to say I lost another 2 pounds. The progress is slow, but exercise is the hardest right now, as I love to walk, and outside. Too much ice on the sidewalks right now. I am planning to go to the mall tonight and walk that way. Just not into the treadmill right now.

Keep telling myself it's better the weight has went slowly, as I know it can be faster for me with exercise. So I am smiling today, and sparking on!

Home from Vacation

Saturday, February 19, 2011

I arrived home from Florida last evening. The temperatures were creeping up to the 70's when it was time to leave. However I saw and felt the warm sun!!!!

Every morning my 2 buddies and I power walked all around Panama City Beach. Always cool to start, but as we got moving we only felt warmth from the sunshine. I was in my glory as it has seemed like a very long winter here in Ontario, and we aren't close enough to Spring yet.

We all ate very healthy, smaller portions, and drank our water. Of course some heavy calories, it's a vacation! We had 2 meals out, healthy, but definitely high in calories. I was very happy to stand on the scale today and didn't gain a pound! That power walking had to be the trick, and I wish I could continue. The wind is sooo strong and cold and of course more snow is on the way. I guess back to the treadmill for awhile.

I sure do feel better just being in the sunshine, it does wonders for my mood. Now I just have to keep up the exercising, as I wait for Spring to arrive. I need no motivation as it warms, because walking will always be my favourite exercise!

I really think I was meant to live somewhere else hmmmm, maybe when I retire.

I am in Nebraska, and our winter has been COLD, until the last week or so, when temperatures have soared up into the 70's for a day or so, mostly in the 50's, but still so wonderful compared to the zero and sub zero wind chills we have had. I got to go outside both Monday and Tuesday for my walks. I LOVED it. It was simply exhilirating! I walked faster than I had gone last fall before I had to move inside and walk at home with my Leslie Sansone DVD's. Leslie increased my speed. But after walking around 1.25 miles 3 times in two days, I woke up Wed. morning with sore shins, thighs, LEGS! OUCH! I tried to walk slowly with the soreness on Wed., but since then I haven't tried any walking for exercise at all. I hate that, because I enjoyed walking so much this week, more than I did last fall. It was so wonderful to be out in the late winter thaw, enjoying the OUTSIDE, and loving the feeling that I was walking FAST! My husband even walked with me Tuesday night--that was sweet. NOW, it's just maddening, to HURT. I suppose it was the speed that caused this. I have been doing the Leslie Sansone DVD's with regularity, but I guess walking that fast inside is just not the same as actually taking steps and going somewhere outside! Oh well, my legs will heal soon hopefully and I'll be back at it. I suppose by then, our typical Nebraska weather will have returned to winter temps and I'll have to walk inside for another month or so before it warms up again for the spring. Sounds like you had a wonderful vacation--I am very jealous!

I am Blessed!

Sunday, April 12, 2009

Well spring is finally here, or is it? We are still experiencing below 0 temps and at night, even colder as the sun disappears. However I am doing all my walking outside now. Sometimes I am bundled up like a snow storm is coming, or just in my light spring coat. You never know day to day. Good bye treadmill and the wall I stared at throughout the winter months. It has brought my motivation level up considerably, as if I have started something really new.

I have walked alone, with my hubby, or with my youngest skateboarding beside me. He has two passions hockey and skateboarding, and believe it or not I will still be visiting cold arenas frequently throughout the summer. Hockey truly never ends! My older boy is very much into working out now. We have purchased a used Bow Flex for a very good price.. A goal of mine will be a lesson on some strengthening exercises. I keep saying that! LOL!! I would rather walk.

The best news for Spring is the snow birds are finally home from Florida, after 4 months. That is my mom and dad, and I look forward to the quality time we spend together. My mom loves to walk with me as well, as long as we plan a washroom break along the way. She is fun and my best friend!

I am feeling very happy with my parents being home, and the fact the warm weather is on it's way, although a little slow. During this fine Easter weekend I can reflect on all my accomplishments and all my blessings. I have a wonderful family I love very much, and am fortunate to still have my parents in my life. I work with fun loving and caring people, and still have my 5 closest friends I have had since I've been 12 years old. Wow, I am blessed!

I am still excited to spark, and find it a very healthy addiction to sign into the site everday. Life is good, and I wish everyone a blessed holiday!

That is a great blog. It is wonderful that you still have your parents around, my mom passed away 6 weeks after the birth of my youngest one (now 6), but my dad age 86 is still coming to visit us from Europe every year, as a matter a fact he will be here next month and I can't wait, it is always great to see him. Have a great day today.

What a happy and spring-welcoming blog entry! Thank you for that! I love the reminders of how wonderful life really can be.

I still think it's too cold to walk outside at 52 degrees F--clearly I am a wimp. But with your lovely infusion of energy, perhaps I'll brave the cool spring weather tomorrow.

Today I had the greatest, just incredible feeling of pleasure as I tried on some summer clothes. Wow I am fitting in my shorts I haven't been able to wear for a few summers now. I never let go of them as I knew one day I wanted to fit into them once again. Not to mention they are still in wonderful shape. I modelled my shorts, and a couple new t-shirts I purchased today (which were a size lower than normal). My husband, and my 14 year old had to watch the show. They were kind to share in my joy even if they were thinking O.K. that's enough!

Yesterday was great too!! I go for massages fairly regularly, due to all the lifting I do in my job, and my body can have alot of aches and pains. My massage therapist said "you're shrinking!" She keeps that up her tips will get even better, LOL!

It's exciting to see the changes, and have others notice. This will be the first summer in a long time I will not dread the begining with nothing to wear or wanting to show my body in less clothing. Always found winter easier to hide behind the clothes. Now I welcome the warmwer weather and can't wait!

I love the compliments from the three men in my life, hubby and my 2 wonderful boys. I am thankful everyday I found Spark people and all the great people who are Sparking too. Thanks to all of you and your inspiring stories! Keep up the Great Work!!!!
