Loving This Weather

Thursday, March 18, 2010

It was a beautiful day. Sunny and warm. Things are starting to bud out. My husband even had a tick crawling on him today.

My son was called to work at the last minute at the country school a mile away so my early morning was rushed fixing breakfasts and lunches.

I worked on health stuff today - getting my prescription reordered and some medical tests set up for the 3 of us.

Since I have upped my exercise and changed my diet my hunger is under control so the things I have given up, which were carbs, are obviously the triggers for my hunger. I am still doing well on my plan.

I hate ticks,I feel they serve no useful purpose in life and don't know why they were created. With the rotts ticks were a huge problem. Glad he got it off while it was g=crawling. I have been told they don't like avon's skin so soft and to put on exposed skin before hiking. I know it works when sprayed for gnats and dear flies to keep them away from your face. Spring is here. Now we have new issues and problems. emoticon

Beautiful day here today being Friday! Carbs are interesting aren't they? They can effect people so differently, most interesting though is I don't think people realize how much it can effect their mood and disposition. We know about the blood sugar swinging but they can be responsible for so much more. I think about them when I read on this site that a person is doing everything right and still not losing, they should check not only what type of carbs they are eating but the grams they are eating. Even if it's good carbs there still may be too many of them. It's easy enough to experiment with though... emoticon

I imagine ticks are a regular challenge in your area. I've only encountered them one - while camping - and that was enough for me.

The weather here has been nice, but I figure that it will sour as soon as my homework is done, LOL!

Interesting to learn that about the carbs. I think my trigger is 4 hours of time! Pretty much every 4 hours I get hungry and have something or other.

That is one thing I do not miss about Southern IL, those horrible ticks. They are everywhere down there and they come early! The worst was finding them in your hair while your driving and trying not to freak out and swerve off the road. Sounds like doing wonderful! When is the big weighin?

Life In Southern Illinois

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

Some pictures of our Southern Illinois friends.

This is a picture of our baby woodcocks. They are camouflaged well.

One of our bluebirds. They love their house by the pond.

One of our suet buddies.

The sun finally came out yesterday and my crocus bloomed!!! They are so beautiful. They were a few days late this year like the peepers. There were a lot of tadpoles in the pond and deer in the woods.

I had a really busy day yesterday. I made breakfast for the boys before they headed off to work and then got my indoor and outdoor chores done. I headed to town to do my errands and shopping. I had some things I need to find that are hard to find here, like state tax forms. And I needed these scrubbers I use. I don't seem to always like the popular products that many people use. I went to 2 post offices, the library, the newspaper office, Federal building, Family Dollar, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, Deals, Kmart, Walmart, meat market, Aldis, IGA, Kroger. I came home and put everything away and made supper. Hubby and I went for a long walk when he got home. I was exhausted and as soon as I had my 120 cardio minutes in I literally quit.

My son didn't have to work today which is nice because he is really sore from taekwondo yesterday. I ran the dishwasher and did a load of laundry. I had to run to town to buy a beef roast so I could have something special for St. Patrick's Day. I fixed roast with carrots, celery, onions, and cabbage. I also made a dessert that I adapted from the daily spark recipe. It still has some carbs but it's okay for my plan.

I'm SO glad you took pics of the woodcocks - never have seen them, thank you! The pics are lovely. I'm like you, in that I don't use "mainstreamy" things. I just went to The Dollar Store for my annual pick up of metal bag clips (they disappear like socks in the dryer) and they only had plastic :(. They're a flippin' dollar for 5 sm ones! I love that! The "name" brand ones in Target & Bed Bath & Beyond are $6-$8 and that's crazy talk - lol. AND, they break cause they're plastic. I picked up a beautiful small book called FACES with indigenous peoples in beautiful colorful native wear. For a buck it made me happy. Like reading your blogs and living vicariously in Illinois - land of Lincoln, my fave pres.
Gotta eat bfast. TTYL!

Sparkpeople is not working for me today, as usual. I'm getting pretty irritated with this site and am about ready to move on. I am in a foul mood and will write more tomorrow when my cheery disposition has returned. LOL. No need to stay around growling and trying to bite something.

I am so tired today. Too much to do. Too many carbs for my liking though I am still within my MD's parameters. I got my minimum cardio in and quit immediatly. LOL. I am ready for bed. LOL.

Staying With It

My son got called into sub today at the last minute. He was the BOYS P.E teacher at the junior high. My son says it was worse than the girls. LOL. He goes back tomorrow. He had 3 tae kwondo classes after work too so he is tired.

I got caught up on a lot of emails today and did a lot of cardio.

My husband and I saw our American Woodcock. They are really neat and it looks like she is already nesting. When the see you they pretend to be injured and lead your off from their nest. LOL. We have pictures of the babies from one year. So cute!!

My college roommate spent a summer banding woodcocks in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. She enjoyed the work and had a lot of pictures to show for her efforts.

I'm looking forward to seeing the finches come eat the broken egg shells from my garden (they typically load up on those before they lay their eggs). To me, that's the sure sign of spring!

Brief Respite From Internet Problems

Sunday, March 14, 2010

Saturday it was overcast and chilly at 45 degrees. I slept in until around 8 A.M. then got up and made breakfast. I did 4 loads of laundry and ran the dishwasher.
Then Hubby and I went for a hike before it stated raining. We came home and my son and I made lunch. My son did not go to his friends so he and I cleaned the 6 chinchilla cages and fixed supper. After that I did my outdoor chores.

What a great weekend. It is still way to wet here to get out in the woods for a walk.

We have sunshine in our forecast today but it hasn't showed up yet. DST??

Have a Marvelous Monday. You are doing so good.

Sunny

Gee, I thought your internet problems were over, guess not. Do you feel like shooting your computer? I would, girlfriend! You sure do walk a lot! Do you wear out many pairs of shoes? How often do you have to buy them?

Sounds like a very productive weekend. Three hikes with your husband, too!!

I look around my house and I see where our habits / schedules differ, LOL. I tease that my maid must be in Grad School!

I'm so very lucky to have two cats and that DH is a full-time student, else things would be so much worse. The cats are pretty mow maintenance and the hubster handles many of the chores on his own.

Just don't look too closely in the bathroom.

I hope you had a terrific weekend! ~ Trish
