Fur Babies

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

Both fur babies are holding their own today.

Wheeler is flicking her face a little like her teeth hurt but she is eating fairly well, though less than usual. She is a bundle of energy though. Tough little booger.

Poor little Squeaker is improving a little too. She even got in the wheel today. She came to the door to eat this morning and she ate some this afternoon. Her appetite is not good, only about half of what it normally is, but she is trying. She likes the food we spiked with ground up raisins. And the almond water. The drooling is improving and she is able to sleep some. She still staggers and falls over but she is getting a little stronger. Her belly is bald where she has pulled her hair out. Her hair is matted. She's a sight!! You would not recognize her from the picture on my sparkpage.

Wheeler, Squeaker, and Bun (their mom) have all slept in their "Crystal Palace" (bath house) together today which they haven't been able to do in a long time due to Squeaker's drooling so things are better.

I'm still worn out. LOL.

Oh, I hope they get well quickly! It is so hard when your pets are ailing because it's so hard to know exactly what hurts and how to help. Good Luck! I'm thinking of you!

Update on the Fur Babies

Monday, August 24, 2009

I got up early today and fixed breakfast and sped through my indoor and outdoor chores before I syringe fed Wheeler and Squeaker. I then got my son up and we both got ready to head for St. Louis. We were out of here by 9. We stopped at Petsmart on the way and quickly got some special chinchilla food and then headed to the bridge over the Mississippi River.

Something you may not know about me - I have severe fear of heights and bridges which I have had to learn to cope with. We are talking about an intense phobia here. I grew up having nightmares about bridges. I'll have to tell you about that sometime. It's kind of interesting. At any rate through my own form of therapy I have gotten better at getting past my fears but today as I approached the bridge I had to talk myself out of panicking. I'm not sure why. I told myself that I have done this many times now and today is no different. My palms started to sweat and I felt light headed and shaky. But I talked myself down. By the time I reached the bridge I was okay.

We made it on time by 11:30 but there was no time for lunch.

Wheeler was extremely angry at finding herself back ay the vets. Her face said it all. She bit me. LOL. She needed her incisors trimmed so he did that. She tolerated it better than usual.

Squeaker had to have surgery and it was very lengthy.

We finally got out of there by 2 P.M. and had to eat in the drive through at 2:30 as it was too hot to leave the babies in the car and my son had to be home in order to leave to teach a Taekwondo class by 4:30.

As soon as we got home we syringe fed both girls and they ate very well which is a good sign.

I'm pretty tired. Tomorrow I will be doing private duty for both of them. LOL.

playing catch up here- I have not been reading blogs, but all of you are so great about comments on mine - thought I should be more supportive back and read yours..
I hope the babies will be ok.
I also am afraid of heights and bridges- I am better on big bridges where you can not see down.. I almost got stuck on stairs going up to my sons friends apt- because they had the stairs where you can see through them.. but I mad it holding on to the wall..

Downer of a Day

Sunday, August 23, 2009

One of my chinchillas, Squeaker, is really sick. She has been drooling a lot and in pain. This morning when we tried to feed her she was bleeding from her mouth. Tomorrow I have to drive 100+ miles one way as she is having emergency surgery. Today was her birthday and her brother's. We spent the day taking care of her. She is hanging in there. She appreciates our efforts to comfort her.

I can't stand for my babies to get sick. I lost baby Tasha 2 summers ago and my heart still aches for her. She was a 4 lb Pom and she had a compromised immune system. God bless your babies..

Woe Is Me!!

Saturday, August 22, 2009

I had a busy day today and didn't eat on plan except at breakfast and my snacks.

I have paid in full for my cheating as I have had GI distress and IBS symptoms. Symptoms that have been silent since I went lower carb.

Live and Learn. LOL.

On the positive side. The pipes are TOTALLY cleaned out. ROFLMBO!!

Sorry. Too much information. But you can learn from my mistake. If you are prone to IBS problems, low carb really does help.

Yes, yes, yes! Low carb is the answer to being IBS free! It's a hard lesson to learn and you MUST be close to a facility!

    Are you gluten sensitive?
That could be the problem if you increased your wheat/rye/oats/barley intake...they all contain gluten.

Gluten sensitivity causes IBS symptoms because the gut is trying to eliminate the irritation as quickly as possible. It's called Celiac Sprue.

Just a thought....hope you're feeling better today!

Nice Day

Friday, August 21, 2009

Today the weather was perfect!! The sun was out, it was warm, there was no humidity, and a gentle breeze was blowing.

I went for a lengthy walk alone in the early morning before breakfast and then a longer one later with my hubby. I always look for turtles when I walk and saw one this morning. My husband saw our favorite turtle before he went to to work.

My son went to a summer in the park event tonight. His taekwondo and Gumdo group were part of the entertainment. They were showing a children's movie, "Kung Fu Panda" and the martial arts groups were the "pre-game show". Sort of a theme. LOL. A little girl came up to my son after the demonstrations and asked him about his swords. Future martial artist. LOL.

Tomorrow my son graduates to Red First in Taekwondo!! The Master is announcing that he has chosen him to be his assistant. The Grasshopper is born. LOL.

Your son does well. I hope you all are feeling better now.
We had desert tortoises two, then there were 4 more. At this house we had no place for them so I gave them to a fellow worker who had lots of turtles. I would love to be out in nature like you are. Good for you.

I love the note of pride in your voice when you write about your son.... he is a fortunate young man. Self love and self respect are born from a parent's unconditional love, acceptance and pride. you must be raising an exceptionally self confident young man.

What a nice day! I used to have two turtles... named them 'Captain and Tennile'. Every year they buried themselves during the winter, and one spring they came up on the other side of the fence. Good-bye Captain & Tennile! They were fun.
