Rural Life

Thursday, August 06, 2009

I live in a very rural area. When my son and husband aren't home I am often the only person around for a half mile or more.

A few days a week I drive the 2 1/2 miles to our tiny post office to get our mail. My girlfriend works there and we catch up on things. The atmosphere is great for a chat - eye candy.

I love our post office. It's over 100 years old. At one time it must have been a bank because there is a sign that says "Teller". The floors are grotesquely uneven. The post office boxes are antiques. It's wonderful.

This is a picture of the outside of the Texico Post Office.

I've seen a post office building that looks just like that in WA state. Thanks for the reminder.

Loved your description of rural town living..I also live in a rural area in West Texas...Our post office is in the same building as the bank, dentist, lawyer and across from the only pharmacy..LOL It is a quiet and almost non-toxic in social issues..But it is where I grew up and I love it too..

Go Go Go

Wednesday, August 05, 2009

Today was nonstop activity. I had no time to rest and burned tons of calories. I sweated like a pig.

I had very little time to eat either which is good for me. When I'm busy thoughts of food disappear. The more calories I burn the less I want to eat - most likely the reason I weighed 86 pounds for years. LOL.

Tomorrow I rest. My friends laugh when I say that because they insist I have never rested in my life. LOL.

Blue, This One's For You

Tuesday, August 04, 2009

Remember the day I wasted trying to get my husband to buy some news shoes and dump the old dress shoes and the disgusting worn out Reeboks? My co-leader, who is into pictures, requested that I post a picture of the shoes.

I want to remind you that these "shoes" were white leather.

The Path Less Taken

Tuesday, August 04, 2009

I really enjoy reading other people's blogs. It reinforces to me how much more exciting their lives are than mine. LOL. While they are traveling to interesting locales I'm usually working in the garden. Mind you I'm not complaining. It's a trade off I'm willing to make. Living in the country and being into self sufficiency means a major commitment of time. Sweat equity. I made this choice years ago. I chose to follow my husband's dream instead of my own and I have been rewarded every day for it. I'm one of the most blessed people you will ever meet.

Speaking of sweat, today I got caught up on the chores I had left over from yesterday. LOL. And even got some extra work done.

You know it's funny how we look at other people's lives and think they have all the excitement. You don't have a 3 hour commute- I know you had a hectic career before you made this choice- and that is NOT exciting. But remember how excited I am to be growing the 2 tomato plants on my deck? New exciting experience for me while you, my dear get to bathe in cherries- my dream. So, it's just a different life. It would be great if we could just get a slice of everything- just like food. emoticon

Mondays Suck

Monday, August 03, 2009

I had a killer day. I hate Mondays. They seem to always include tons of work and very little rest. I got a lot done today but I still have a lot left over to do tomorrow.

The 6 pet cages are clean. It takes several hours to do them.
The vaccuming is done.
3 loads of laundy were washed but 2 are not folded or hung.
3 meals were made.
The dishwasher was loaded and unloaded.
The bathroom was cleaned.
2 sick chinchillas were syringe fed 3 times.

I'm ready for bed. LOL.

I can't stand Mondays either. Here at the office, it is payroll day so we have to be on our toes to deal with issues when they crop up and there is always stuff sitting there from the weekend that has to be gone through. Tuesdays are just about as bad because that is typically a big meeting day (both at work and church).

By Wed, I'm just wiped. Hope your Tues is better.
