When you have time, go to my page. My friend SparkFriend 2BFREE2LIVE has pictures of Washington state on her latest blog. One of the pictures is of the Horseheaven Hills with snow on them. If you want to see them you can go there. I think it has the caption 'highest hill in the ???' I can't remember exactly how she capped it. She is a good photographer and I enjoy looking at her work.

Mired in the Muck

Tuesday, January 04, 2011

Today was sunny and above freezing again so it didn't feel too bad outside but it was a muddy, mucky, gloppy, sloppy, slippy, slidey mess outside so not too much fun doing chores or trying to walk. I guess it would be good if you wanted to mud wrestle and I never have.

I have 3 chinchillas now who seem to be having some teeth problems so I'm not sure what is going on with them. It's not too bad yet and I don't want to jump the gun and take them to the vet if I don't need to. It is so far away and so expensive and they and I would be exposed to other ill animals and people with the flu so instead I have to monitor them all closely. I gave them a bunch of new toys to chew on today trying to get some chewing going on.

I am totally swamped with sparkpeople group duties and have no time to read blogs right now. Tons of new members are joining the teams!! I have 420 messages left at the end of the day today. LOL.

It's shaping up to be quite a week.

I had a great day eating and exercising though. I am tracking again.

Your chinchillas' antics and social needs sound soooooo cute as always. Sleeping in your lap for an hour! Awwwwww!

Maybe they are like babies who want more attention when teething. The chew toys sound like a really good idea.

I know what you mean about new members, I have a ton too and am way behind too, the normal daily deluge, plus the Jan new members, plus being gone 5 weeks for my sister's passing, plus computer down during both holidays. Oy.

Sorry to hear about your chinchilla's teeth problems, I just had Rosie's teeth (my pomeranian)cleaned and about five of them extracted, she's on antibiotics for 40 days. I've got two poms and only Rose has a problem, vet says its genetic.

Regarding chinchillas, I suspect they are like other rodents and need to chew pretty much constantly as the enamel on their teeth never stops growing. I'd get some hard wood for them to chew on while you're out there in the woods taking one of your hikes... or call the vet and see what he recommends.

Good luck!

Too Pooped To Pop

Monday, January 03, 2011

I didn't sleep very well last night so I'm a little tired today. I was planning on resting but my hubby noticed that we had a moldy loaf of bread this morning so I ended up having to go to town today instead of tomorrow. He loves oat bread and my son eats it sometimes too. I seldom ever eat bread and when I do I want it to be killer bread. Homemade biscuits comes to mind - with sausage gravy. YUM!!! Or real Italian bread with some Volpi salami.

It was sunny today and in the 40s. I made breakfast, started a couple loads of laundry, spot cleaned the pet cages, swept the floors, spot cleaned the bathroom, emptied the waste cans, cleaned out my purse, and then made a grocery list.

My son got our bills ready to pay when he got up. I left around 9:30 and while I was gone my son made us lunch, dried/folded/hung the 2 loads of laundry, and unloaded/reloaded the dishwasher for me. He also washed his sparring equipment. What a great kid.

I went to the post office, newspaper office, bank, Aldis, Goodwill, Wal-mart, and Kroger. I found 2 shirts and 4 pair of jeans at Goodwill. 2 of the jeans are a little tight but it will be incentive to lose weight to get in them as they are really nice. The rest fit perfect.

I came home and my son helped unload the car and we put everything away and ate. I then got Rico Suave out as he was lonely and he slept in my lap for a long time. I did my outdoor chores for the day in the late afternoon. Fixed supper and have rested since that time.

I'm hoping to have some me time tomorrow.

Wow 4 pairs of pants! I usually end up trying on 6 pairs and find 1 possibly. Pant shopping is so depressing, I hate it. We got a bread machine at Goodwill in Champaign on Sunday. Looked on Amazon and the same machine was 99 bucks! We got it for 3.96. We made white bread yesterday. Seems like a wedding gift that takes up too much room. I love reading all the things your sons do around the house. They really seem to help out.

Ugh, cleaning out the purse. One of my most neglected duties. LOL. I always find amazing stuff....like old granola bars, petrified raisins, hairy cough drops, lots of change and good stuff like that. LoL I think my purse must weigh 15 lbs. My daughter and dh tell me I need to "lighten" up all the time...but hey....I NEED all that stuff. :o) Most of it is my diabetes kit and my diet tracking stuff.....the rest...well, a girl just does not ever know when something will be needed. :o)

We're always having bread mold around our house. My dh and dd love the white junk (gun wadding I call it) but they don't eat much bread either. I personally love the whole grain breads and the Ezek. bread I buy at Kroger and the Health food store. It has a wonderful nutty taste...made with lentils and no flours of any kind. Yummm.

A New Year But the Same Old "Behind" LOL.

Sunday, January 02, 2011

It stayed below freezing all day but the sun was out and it was less windy so it felt better.

We went for a couple of long hikes. We saw a few cats, some squirrels, a bunch of doves, a couple of robins, Baby, and 7 deer. There were a lot of birds at the bird feeder today too. It is pretty muddy outside.

Rico Suave and Porkie both wanted a lot of attention today. Blocker and Stinker are both having teeth problems and may have to go to the vet soon. I will take Squeaker as well in case she needs a molar trim.

I ate better today and stayed in my ranges. I hope to do even better tomorrow. I'm doing really well on steps.

We are watching Ren and Stimpy tonight. LOL. We have always found this show to be gross but hilarious.

I had over 400 emails this morning. LOL. So it will be like forever before I can read blogs and answer all of the emails. Thus, the title of this blog.

The First Day of a New Year

Saturday, January 01, 2011

It was sunny today for a change but the warm temps from the past 2 days were chased off by a cold front that went through. We were left with temps below freezing all day and a brisk wind.

We went for a walk anyway. It wasn't pleasant but we did get to talk to Baby. She's a chow and I envy her nice fur coat. I inherited a couple of fur coats but find them revolting. I can't fathom that someone would kill small animals just for the express purpose of wearing them. It's sickening.

I made breakfast this morning and at the same time made part of lunch and all of supper. For supper we had black-eyed peas, barley bread, pickled beets, slaw, and apples. My son loves black-eyed peas. Sometimes I'm better at making bread than at other times. Today was not a good day. LOL. The flavor was fantastic but the loaf was too dense and heavy.

With hubby home we end up watching strange shows like Oddities. Have you ever watched this show?? You have got to check it out! There are so many freaks out there. I'm totally amazed. I'm fairly kinky in my own way but collecting toenails is absolutely disgusting. They have clients that want real monkey skulls and stuffed sloths and embalming tables. ????? What is this neighborhood like?? LOL.

I hope your first day in 2011 was great!

Something tells me that Benny isn't the only one transfixed by "Oddities"! I know that if I started watching it, I'd be sitting there in horrified fascination, too. I suppose they also have the guy with tree bark for skin, right?

When I do the elliptical at the gym, I always take the machine in front of the History Channel. The other day, they had an episode of "American Pickers" where the guys came across this old couple who had what looked like a barnful of antique toys! I didn't stay long enough to see what the prices were, but I know that those things were beyond valuable! Old tin toys, antique "robots," windup darkie toys (sorry, but they're very valuable now), original packaging, mint condition. My dad's antique-dealer blood still courses through my veins!

I have never had a fur coat. But, I once raised and ate rabbits, please don't hate me for that I do eat meat. I did not know how to make leather but I would have had I known how and that would have meant using the entire animal. I would be willing to wear animals I am willing to eat I guess.

I don't think that is the same as cuddling up to a warm dog. Stay warm and happy new year.

I have those times when things I make don't turn out like it should....my morning coffee comes to mind most recently........lol

Yes, men like watching strange shows...my hubby likes the Worlds Dumbies show....where they videos of people doing dumb things....such as driving.....robberies....etc....

Cold front coming through here later today. I'm not a fan of the really cold weather but HATE the wind that we've had with the cold weather this winter. Worked on some goals for the new year--trying to keep it baby steps and realistic! It was a good day.

I don't know which group is sicker. The ones who collect 'trophies' of dead things or the people who hunt for fun. (Like Sarah Palin)

That colder weather is coming our way tomorrow. At least today was sunny and warm :)
A quiet day here for us, too. We had a small party last night, son & wife are home from GA.
After last night, I quite enjoyed a quiet day today :)

I haven't watched that show but I would LOVE it. I am so intrigued by weird stuff. I went to the Mutter Museum in Philly and never, ever wanted to leave. It was creepy but fascinating all at the same time. Loooved it. :) My husband, on the other hand, was mostly grossed out and hated it. Eh, to each their own.

Slowing going here today - think I am recovering from all of the company.

The quietness is "deafening". Hehehe.

Take care and had a great week. My Miss Macki is part Chow and I envy her coat too.

Hugs to you, Sunny
