Parting Is Such Sweet SorrowSunday, November 14, 2010
It was another nice cool sunny day. Hubby and I slept in and after I made breakfast we went for a nice long walk. We went for another long walk in the afternoon and then a shorter walk when it was almost dark. ![]()

At least there's the Internet. I bet the guys will stay in touch even though Zach is moving away. Herding dogs like Hondo and Dingo just LOVE to run and herd stuff. Dingo would've loved a sheep. I had only two walks yesterday, because I got busy cooking for company, so the night-time walk had to be 3.5 miles. It was actually pleasant to be out walking under the stars on a fall night that wasn't too cold. Report Inappropriate Comment |

Luckily with cell phones, and email, and instant messaging, and texting, and facebook, your son will be able to stay connected with his long-time friends. Maybe Hondo could herd the chinchillas. Maybe that's a bad idea - lol. Report Inappropriate Comment |

I do hope your son & his friends are able to keep in touch. These times are hard, especially for the young men & women who have such high hopes when finishing college, only to find that there just aren't any jobs. Such a mess the nation is in right now. Our dog, Jack is a red heeler/husky mix, and he herds us and our other dog, Chip, whenever he can! Report Inappropriate Comment |

Yep, this Economy is either bringing Family closer for Financial Support, or driving them apart for Survival. With Technology its still possible to keep up with each other when wanting to make the effort- sorta Modern Day Pen Pal's. I personally love the idea of living in Wyoming- just not the Winters there. Blue Heeler's definitely need exercise and work- my neighbor has one that almost turned Vicious- (they keep her Pend all day when at work), due to their lack of attention and nothing to do. These dogs are herders of Anything- this one has instead turned OCD- when lose she herds flying birds! The poor thing just runs around looking at the sky and chasing the flocks flying over. Sounds like another Bitter/Sweet Day. Report Inappropriate Comment |

Human migration doesn't seem a rampant as during the '30s, but it seems like a lot of people are moving around. If we didn't have to work, we could stay put. Dd and sil picked up their new dog today. It's a 2 yr old male English bulldog named Romeo. He is a lover boy, fluffy and busy. Their other dog, Goldie, is not in good health, but will enjoy the company. We could write a book about the adventures of Louie, McDuff, Goldie, Romeo and all your pets and neighbors' pets. Report Inappropriate Comment |

I love to hear about HONDO, I am assuming he is your pet? I just started to read you a while ago and i thought Hondo was a wild animal, please when you find a minute straighten me out. I slept in today. I had some problems sleeping during the night so it was nice to rest.
The front went through this morning. It got windy and rained a little. The high of 60 degrees was at midnight. The sun came out later but it only got to 52 degrees.
This morning I had to re-log in with each message to sparkpeople. So much for their wonderful site maintenance. LOL. Yesterday I got through 91 emails and had 105 left.
Hubby and I went for a long walk this morning down the road. We saw Baby, the neighbor's Chow, some fish in the creek, and some crows.
When we got back my son and I made brunch.
Later on hubby fixed my car while I did a couple more loads of laundry. After the 3 loads of laundry I did yesterday I'm really sick of it for a while. The problem with my car was that I had a fouled out spark plug. My car needs vacuumed and washed but is ready for winter now.
I did some yard work today. I finished cleaning out the 2 perennial/herb beds plus the 2 hosta beds. I harvested my rosemary and cut back the mums. I filled the bird bath and emptied out 8 of my huge impatiens pots. I still have a lot more that are covered with floating ground cover and still producing.
I saw Hondo trot through our yard. He had been to visit Daisy. All the neighborhood male dogs love Daisy. She is very wild, friendly, and funny. A yellow Lab. Hondo's owner had another dog, a Beagle named Gunner and he and Daisy were inseparable for years. They were always together until Gunner disappeared. If there is such a thing as true dog love Gunner had it for Daisy. His owner said Gunner would be gone for days and would just come home to eat and then go back with Daisy. Daisy would get in our pond and catch tadpoles and Gunner would wade out a little way to be near her, though you could tell he thought fishing for tadpoles was gross and stupid. After Gunner was gone Hondo started visiting Daisy but he is not as crazy about her as Gunner was. We saw some bones in the creek that my hubby thinks is Gunner.

We saw two companions this summer in the RV park where we stayed. One was a half wolf and the other a spitz. Talk about Mutt and Jeff. They were Louie, the wolfdog and McDuff, the spitz. You never saw one without the other. Their owners would leave for a few weeks and leave them unattended. Their neighbors fed them. One of the guys in the park bought Ball Park franks for them. I've thought about them a lot since we've left Idaho.

Just look at all the company you have here! It's a semi reclusive state I think, I feel as though I have visited today. I just wish I had a companion like Gunner. The only problem is I'm too lazy for the upkeep. Comment edited on: 11/14/2010 4:18:22 PM Report Inappropriate Comment |

When dogs have the freedom to run free--ESPECIALLY beagles, who get fat and lazy otherwise!--their true nature has a chance to come out. I love hearing about Hondo, Baby, and now Gunner and Daisy. We have leash laws everywhere here, so you hardly ever see a dog out just doing his thing--let alone pursuing a love affair! There is one dog near us, though, who has managed to get a "free" arrangement for himself. He's a nice black dog who trots about, without a care in the world, says hi to me, and then trots off on his business, looking back to see if I might want to play with him.
