Weird Day

Tuesday, October 12, 2010

It was another warm day. It tried to cloud up and rain and it actually did get windy, thunder, and lightening but it's so dry it never rained. I guess the atmosphere soaked it up before it hit the ground.

No turtles came today or yesterday but ConfusedBird has a brand new turtle which is really cute.

I slept better last night. I did a few chores this morning and had to make a grocery list before I went to town to do errands and shop. Before I left my son was called to sub. I went to the post office, gas station, electric co-op, newspaper office, Farmer's Market, Meat Market, Aldis, Wal-Mart, Kroger. I ate at Ryan's as I was going to be in town all day and I managed to make good choices and avoid overeating. Later I realized I probably did not eat enough protein.

I got home before 3 and it took me over an hour to put the groceries away with no help. I had to sling some supper together.

Hubby and I didn't get to walk tonight.

Everyone has favorite movies and I have a bunch as I like all kinds of movies but one movie that my son, husband, and I all love is "Three O Clock High" (1987). It's so funny. If you have never seen this movie you really should.

My MIL completed her radiation and chemo treatments and finally had surgery at Barnes today. It was a shock for all of us as we were led to believe by her that she was having surgery on her neck and it was on her neck and her tongue again. She was in surgery from 7:30 until 5 so it must have been very extensive. Neither of my husband's brothers work so one of them is with her there and he is totally confused and upset and so is my husband. They seem to think their mom didn't know she was having half her tongue removed but like I told hubby, surgery requires a permit with informed consent and everything has to be spelled out and discussed. At any rate this is very odd.

My Mom is bad about "not worrying people" as well, so I'm sure that's what happened. Or perhaps they told her they MAY have to remove it depending on what they found, and she figured they wouldn't need to. Hard telling, but I hope she recovers ok!

Morticia, I am so sorry for your trials, definitely a lack of communication here must be explained to reduce further hurt and worry if that is in the least possible. Perhaps MIL was trying to spare the sons from this diagnosis it happens but if they had been given the full diagnosis they would have been better prepared for the outcome. Perhaps they should ask the Dr for information if he will give it. Pat in Maine. M take care of yourself try not to overdo it. Pat HUGS !!!!

Sleepless In Texico

Monday, October 11, 2010

I had another night from Hades. Very little sleep. I mean hardly any. I tossed and turned all night long. And kept hubby up too.

It's still fairly warm here and a little muggy. 86 to 88 degrees. The trees are really turning and more leaves fall every day. Some trees are already bare. Hubby and I went for a walk when he got home and saw several deer, plus the usual squirrels, birds, and a cat. Hondo, Daisy, and Baby, of course.

I put turtle food out and had 2 girls and a boy turtle yesterday. None today.

You've probably already tried this, but when I take cal-mag supplement at night it knocks me out like a drug. It has to have these components:

2:1 ratio of calcium to magnesium
no aspartates
no magnesium oxide
no magnesium carbonate
no magnesium bicarbonate
citrates / malates forms preferred for absorbability
take with D3 unless it's already included in pill

Now, not too many nights that I can't fall asleep. Sometimes I have a problem staying asleep. I wake up about 3 or 4 times a night to go to bathroom or just look at the clock. Hate that.

Sure hope you get some rest soon.

When I cannot get back to sleep right away, I do a project in my head - like reorganizing my closets. I have these totally dysfunctional closets in my little old house and I'm always trying to figure out a way to make them more organized. So in my mind I take everything out of the closet and I take the poles out and I change things around. Usually I fall asleep - but there've been times when I have thought "OH!" I wonder if that would work---and then I'm out of bed with a measuring tape checking out the possibilities!!

Boo!!

Sunday, October 10, 2010

I'm in a mood to lecture people today so instead of being mean I decided to do this questionnaire.

I got this from NYYCHICA's blog and since I'm the queen of Halloween I had to do it.

DETERMINATION STATION CHALLENGE: A Spooktacular Q & A

1. What was your favorite Halloween Costume?
Morticia of course. But I also love to be a witch or pirate or Cleopatra when I'm feeling frisky. LOL.

2. What is your favorite Halloween memory?
The first time my son was Uncle Fester. Everyone went insane over it. He is Fester.

3. Have you ever been to a haunted house? A real one or other?
Yes, one by the Jaycees. Plus I live in a haunted woods.

4. What is the scariest horror movie you've ever seen?
Moi? Afraid of horror movies? How silly!!!

5. What was the first horror movie you saw? Around how old?
It would have to be in grade school. Probably something with Vincent Price like House on Haunted Hill.

6. What is your favorite horror movie?
The Addams Family, of course. Not scary at all but purrfect for me.

7. Freddy Kruger, Jason or Michael Myers?
No preference really.

8. Dracula, Frankenstein or the Mummy?
I love them all but of course it would have to be Dracula.

9. What is your favorite Halloween cartoon?
I love them all too.

10. Have you ever used a Ouija board?
Of course. I had my own.

11. Have you ever seen a ghost?
Of course. Hasn't everyone?

12. Do you dress up for Halloween?
Of course. Doesn't everyone?

13. Will you be giving out Halloween treats this year?
Morticia does not have Trick of Treaters as the little ones are afraid of the haunted woods but she will be giving out treats and tricks.

Deja Vu - It's Ground Hog Day Again!!

Friday, October 08, 2010

This is starting out as a déjà vu type blog. Guess what? I over slept again. Yes!! No joke. I'm practically a sloth!! Hanging in a tree somewhere upside down with green moss growing off me. Moving an inch a year. Coming down to pee and take a dump once a week. Stinking. Well not quite but I'm getting there. I was smart enough last night to tell my son to wake me if I was not up when he got up and I wasn't so he did. Thus I was just 15 minutes late instead of a half hour. LOL. Rip Van Mortie.

I feel a lot better today though. Most of the severe fatigue and the body aches and pains are gone. I still have a stuffed up nose. The MRSA lesion is still going strong. No drainage but it is becoming consolidated and harder. I still have a temp.

I had to go to town today because my husband is into his bread-sucking mode again. He goes insane with it sometimes and eats an entire loaf of bread in a day!! How does one pass something like this???? He denies this but it's gone and my son and I don't eat it at all and our 8 chinchillas don't so you tell me who ate it. I look him in the face and ask him if he is telling me that someone broke into the house and instead of ripping off the electronics, silver, jewelry, etc. they ripped off and ate an entire loaf of bread. LOL. He gets peeved. He is eating massive amounts of Halloween candy they have at work too. They have a dispenser and he fills his sandwich bags with it and stuffs them in his pockets. All his pockets are bulging like a chipmunk. LOL. He has a candy addiction.

I had to go to town today anyway as my son needed some vitamins. And I wanted some socks. The selection at Wal-Mart sucks any more. They have tons of socks that are not supposed to look like you are wearing socks. No show socks. Few real socks. I assume that socks are out of style now so you have to hide that you use them - like having a hidden crack habit. "OMG, She's wearing socks. Don't look at her. Yuck!" The check out lady who was my age brought up their lack of socks too. And of course she and I were in agreement, Wal-Mart sucks.

I also wanted to get the TV Guide as we have been chosen by Nielson to do the TV thing again. They always choose us though we must be the weirdest people they panel. Sometimes my son won't watch TV for days. Hubby watches the same programs over and over. He loves American Pickers which I hate. If you've seen one rusty bike you've seen them all. He points out that I was an interior decorator before I became a nurse and I point out that schlepping though hoards of filthy boxes of rusty nuts and bolts while fighting off spiders and snakes is not what I did. I went to high-end air-conditioned furniture stores and purchased ridiculously overpriced products for people who had more money than sense. Hubby also loves Science shows. My son and I are the science majors but he should have been one. Some of those shows are okay but hubby tends to like ones that are tedious and dull and would put even Stephen Hawking to sleep. I am always kind of ashamed to pencil in what I watch as I'm afraid that someone sits there and says, "This woman is supposed to be a college grad?" It's the same concept I feel when I eat out. The old - we are fat so we have to be careful not to order the Triple Baconator with extra cheese and extra bacon and an "Extra Extra Extra Large, Shove-More-In, Fill-That-Box/Bag, Biggie fries" and a gargantuan fully-loaded Blizzard as we know people will think, "No wonder this heifer weighs a ton - the disgusting pig." So you order the child's meal and eat it, the cardboard box it came in, and the cheap toy in the privacy of the bathroom and then hit the drive through for some real food. LOL.

My friend ConfusedBird, who lives in my region of the country, has encouraged me in the past to check out Goodwill for some clothes. Confusedbird is young and pretty and could make a potato sack look good and I'm old and........well............really really really......... old. LOL. I was alive prior to permanent press. I didn't think that would have much for me but she said she has seen things there that her mom would like. In pictures her mom and I have similar taste. ConfusedBird is very convincing. Besides I trust her as she has given me a lot of good tips so I thought, well, why not try it. I went today and bought 2 pair of jeans and a t-shirt for $14!! They fit perfectly and are like brand new. And they were clothes that I would have actually bought for myself new. Now I have 3 pairs of pants that actually fit. So I am really happy. Happy for my new clothes and happy that I have a good friend like ConfusedBird. Having younger friends is really nice because they help you break out of your comfort zone. You can try new things and not be so.............old. LOL.

Good Will and I are old friends. I am one that puts anything purchased there into the dryer for 20 minutes or wash it before it mixes in with your clothing general population. It is almost a hobby to shop there. Then you gather up your own stuff, donate it, and buy it back. Simple.

Two friends and I once drove from Connecticut to Florida on a Good Will tour. We prepared a map of stores along the way and made out like bandits.

Awww that is so great you found clothes at goodwill! People always look at me weird when I say I shop at goodwill. But you find a lot of brands you would have never discovered. I got a shirt from Talbots that I just love and I have never stepped foot in a Talbots and probably never will lol Great place to go to reward yourself with clothes without breaking the bank!

I absolutely loved this blog. I'm glad you are feeling better and your sense of humor and way with words has brightened my day with a big laugh. I guess I can sympathize with your husband with his bread "sucking candy eating" mode. After I've done Atkins for a while I get to a point where I daydream about toast. LOL. I love bread and butter. My husband does the same thing with milk. Neither my daughter or I drink or use milk but we go through a gallon of milk a day and my husband doesn't why? Ummmm excuse me.... who else????

Thanks for the laughs.
Jo

OMG i'm dying over the line "my husband is into his bread-sucking mode again" I mean, I just sat there unable to go on. Its too much. Have you ever read the book Bunnicula? It was a kids book about a vampiric bunny rabbit that sucked tomatoes. Made me think of that. Or of the Chupacabra - mythic mexican goat sucking monster. Except he's the Chupacarbohidrato! Carb Sucker! Muah ha ha ha hahaha.....

oh my gosh... I understand about the loaf of bread.. my son is convinced someone riped off his socks.. we had the same conversation.. I said "what they came in just for your socks and left everything else??" too funny... I'm so glad you found some clothes you like. thats the best part.. and they cost less than 1 shirt does sometimes..
Boy isn't it the truth about wal-mart socks.. I would go around thinking my socks were falling down if I wore those ankle socks.. I did find a nice style in hanes, but even then I have gotten some of those and had to buy more real soon because they are too thin.. I really like the last ones I got and I probably should of bought several bags...
I hope your feeling much better soon...
This is my usual "I have a hour to catch up time" Take Care..

So the clothes hunting at Goodwill worked out for you? I have a friend who shops at Consignment shops and has a fabulous wardrobe...but she is like a size 6.....i'm a size 10/12, when I try, the clothes are frumpy looking!

I have often found deals at goodwill! It was my favorite place to shop as I shed 120 pounds. Someone's cast offs can be our treasures...or at least a stop gap wardrobe as we drop dress sizes.

GF old is 30 years older than I am, and that (duh) changes yearly!
Thrift stores are wonders, I've gotten things with the tags still on them, some folks have more money than brains.
Glad you are getting better, wish you were totally healed!
I can't imagine a bread thief, DH gets a sandwich daily and a piece of toast with breakfast..I tend to ration the carby foods even for him.
Have a wonderful day!

WW

I love socks and our Walmart still has lots of them. I haven't seen the invisible socks yet.

I always wondered who Nielson chose for that honor. We've never been chosen. We like IRT too.

Halloween around here means hubby buys a bag of mini Reeses cups in case we get some trick-or-treaters, which we never do, but that just happens to be his favorite candy.

SUZYMOBILE 10/9/2010 9:00AM

So, let me get this straight. You get the TV Guide so that you can be more conscious of your own TV-watching behaviors, in order to convince Nielson that you watch more than just The Sopranos, Pickers, and IRT? I hope you don't change your behaviors just because you're being observed (Heisenberg's uncertainty principle), 'cause your unusual preferences are probably why they picked you guys in the first place! Thank God not everybody watches Dancing with the Stars!

Hey, I'm a LOT older than you are, I love the Salvation Army Store (same thing), and I often dress "too young." I'm so glad ConfusedBird talked you into going for it, if it makes you feel good!

Aaaahhh - you're back! It's getting easy to tell how you're feeling by the length and tone of your blogs, and I'm very happy to see that the "what the hell" Morticia has returned! However, I am not going to be happy to see the IRT tv show moving up in the Nielsons.

Pup Sophie once ate an entire loaf of homemade bread she stole off the counter. I found it later it a regurgitated fashion in the hallway. You might check around to see if hubby has upchucked his somewhere - lol.

Aaaahhhh! Sounding more like the "old" Morticia (and I don't mean age). You seem very stuck on being old! LOL You can't be THAT old............ (sorry to say, I am THAT old!) So, so glad to hear you are feeling better! I am hearing more and more people shopping Goodwill and loving it! May have to give it a try. Went to a local consignment shop and they were asking more than I would pay for new clothes!! Have a great Saturday!! Again, I can't tell you how happy I am you're feeling better!!!

Just wanted to stop by and let you know we are home. It was a great trip but coming back home was the best. There is no place like home.

Take care and have a GREAT saturday. I am up with the bird (actually before) so any time you need a wake up call, let me know.

I have a ton of laundry (almost) so will tackle that and head into town to get some groceries.

I am so glad you are feeling better, I could tell it by your humourous post. And I told you to go to Goodwill too!, or implied it by saying I did (I can't remember my exact words). See! See! 2 pairs of jeans like new that you would have bought anyway, PLUS a tshirt! When Goodwill is good, it is really really good. The other times you go; well, you just have to shrug your shoulders and say - sucks today - Next time! I'm so glad you went, ha ha. It is hit-or-miss usually, but, when it's a hit, it's really, really good!

Speaking of sucks - I agree with you about Walmart. I go there as a last resort only. For everything. I'll even (gasp) pay 30 cents more for an item elsewhere to avoid going there; me Ms. El Cheapo.

The bread story was tooooo funny. Sounds like the candy at work fired up his sugar addiction. Candy at work = bread at home, LOL.
