Day 21 of Arms Challenge

So on Day 21 I did 105 pushups, 70 tricep dips and 140 seconds of jab-cross-hook-uppercut mayhem. I didn't actually hit any thing but it is amazing how it works out you arms just throwing the punches. As you can see, I really needed this month of concentration on my arms. It has been pretty tough, at least after about day 15. It is taking me longer and longer to work y way through the entire sets. I am doing other work in between the sets so that I am getting a well rounded workout while still hitting those arms. Here is my Day 21 workout

For the month of July I participated in two challenges that were put up on a Facebook group I belong to. One was a squat challenge and the other was an ab challenge. Today I will do 250 squats to complete that challenge and 175 bicycles to complete the abs challenge. It has been truly amazing, terrifying, difficult and oh so rewarding. Now for August I am going to work on the 'guns' with an arm challenge Challenges really help me to focus, wish me luck with this one.

Explanation of arms challenge: Day one you do 5 pushups, 5 dips and throw punches for 10 seconds. See illustrations at top of schedule.

    Glamit - dips are a triceps exercise. You use a chair or a bench. Google dips and you will get some video demo's. Secs is seconds. You throw jabs, crosses, hooks and uppercuts for the given number of seconds.

    Thanks browncofiddler for the encouragement. If i can motivate and encourage I am a happy guy. Thanks for the concern tatter3. I certainly am aware of how challenging the heat is. I do hydrate all day long and carry plenty of water on my runs when it is hot out

Merry Christmas

On this eve of the birth of Jesus, I have to stop and reflect on the grace of God. I am so glad that He loves me. To be accepted and loved by the creator of all things is way beyond my understanding. I don't know what else to do but accept His love and the giving of His son to rescue me from my innate sinfulness and my willful nature. It is so much more satisfying being a follower of Jesus than struggling to figure out how to live my own selfish life. Happy birthday Jesus and Merry Christmas Sparkerz wherever you are

Marathon training continues

In my last blog entry I mentioned that I was doing a 17 mile run. Got through that in fine shape. I finally decided to enter the Buzz Marathon in San Miguel Ca in February. This will be my first marathon! I am so excited about it. After my 17 mile run two weeks ago I have continued to train, alternating 3-5 mile runs and yoga classes during the week and then long runs. After my 17 mile run, I ran 9 miles last week. My training calls for this long-short approach and it seems to be working pretty well for me. Today I did 20 miles, the longest I had ever run. Did it in 4 hr 8 min, so I am not sure that a 5 hr marathon will happen, but that is ok - the point is to finish it. I also committed myself to run at least 1 mile everyday from Thanksgiving Day to New Years Day. This was a challenge that I found on Runners World. That is fitting in to my schedule just fine. Think good thoughts for me as I continue, and if you are a praying person, please mention me from your mouth to God's ear!
