Back to Basics

I left SP one year ago after I lost 50 lbs. I thought that I could maintain it on my own, but in the past year I regained 17 lbs.

I was tracking my calories and fitness using MyFitness Tracker on my iPhone, but it didn't help me to make better food choices. In addition, all of the excess food I tracked didn't motivate me to consume less calories either despite the number on the scale creeping back up.

I have returned to SP, because SP offers more than just tracking tools. It offers nutrition plans, motivational stories, and real people out in cyberspace who can encourage me.

It's back to the basics for me, but this time my goal is to keep the weight off for good.

    Thank you for your words of encouragement. I just hired a personal trainer who is kicking my butt big time! I'm also trying to follow my SP meal plans. :)

    You can definitely do this, and while you've gained a little back, you still need to pat yourself on the back for losing the weight in the first place and keeping most of it off. Great job! And good for you for realizing you should come back and keep trying!

This was a photo that a friend took of my husband and me at a Valentine's dinner party last month.

My weight loss has had a positive impact on my husband that he has decided to start his weight loss journey too!

Wearing Size 10 Jeans for the 1st Time in Almost 15 Years

None of my clothes fit me anymore! For the first time (in a long time), they're not too tight but TOO BIG! I told my hubby and he replied, "What are you complaining about? That's a good thing!"

So I went to the store the other night to buy a pair of jeans. Since I'm short, I have to shop in the petite section. As I was skimming through all of the sizes, I pulled out several pairs and sizes to try on.

My jaw dropped when I realized that I now wear a Size 10! Yay! No more PLUS sizes for me! I bought a pair and went home to model it for my hubby. He told me that he was proud of me, and that I was beginning to look the way I looked when we were younger. I'm beginning to feel the way I felt when I was younger too - sexy and energetic! The only difference is that I'm a sexy and energetic grandma now. LOL

I still have a long way to go to get into the size I was on my wedding day, but I'm on my way Baby! I'm on my way!

Learning From Failure

I bought some peppermint sandwich cremes yesterday that were sinfully delicious. At 140 calories per cookie, I decided to eat 2 cookies for dessert last night.

After I came home from a 3-hour workout, I was hungry again and looked inside my food pantry for something to eat. I noticed that the delectable Christmas treats I bought were almost gone! I asked my husband why he ate most of the cookies, because I wanted to eat some the next day!

Instead of putting my share in a baggie and hiding it in the pantry for me to indulge on over time, what do I do instead? I scarf down my 3 cookies before my husband gets to them!

I won the battle, but I lost the war! I woke up today to add those additional cookie calories to my nutrition tracker and was faced with a huge awakening. Those sinfully delicious 5 cookies that I ate added up to a whopping 700 calories!

I asked myself, "Was it that important to eat your share in one day? Why did you feel that you were going to lose something if you didn't eat your share immediately? How do you feel now? Was it worth it?"

As these questions swirled around in my brain, I realized that I could have made better choices but I didn't at that moment. All I can do now is do better today. And that's what I plan to do...

    I nooooo, I get so mad at myself when I do that. I remember Dr Phil saying "what did you eat last month on the 22...you dont remember? Right, thats how important it was. I've tried to keep that thought in the forefront of my brain. Some days I manage, some days I dont. Have you read Indigirls blogs about being a half hearted dieter? Well, in her half hearted efforts she lost nearly another person in weight over 7 years.

    I know where you are coming from sister! I have a real addiction to potato chips and keep some around for when "I just can't stand it anymore" happens. I am working on my Sparking and I hear this unmistakable crinkling of a bag, there is DH eating potato chips by the handfuls until they are all gone. There is something wrong about this!

My Blood Test Results Came Back with Flying Colors!

In August 2009, I joined SP because I was diagnosed with Hypertension, High Cholesterol, Hormone Imbalance, and Pre-Diabetes.

I didn't take my health seriously until last year when I sent my baby off to college.

After working out 5 days a week, and making small but steady positive adjustments to my nutrition, I am proud to say that my blood test results came back today with flying colors!

My heart, arteries, liver, kidneys, thyroid, pancreas, etc., are all healthy. My cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels are within normal range too!

I needed this great news to keep me motivated to take this journey all the way to my final goal weight. Although I have 55 more pounds to go, the 45 pounds that I have lost has made all the difference to my health.

I feel great! I have more energy! People keep telling me that I look great! My clothes don't fit anymore! I'm going to be 46 next month, but I look 25-35! I'm not gonna stop now! I know that if I can make it this far, then I can make it all the way.

Thank you Jesus! Thank you Sparkpeople! Being healthy is worth the hard work! I don't have to follow my parents' and grandparents' heart disease and Diabetes footsteps! I just have to keep making baby steps in the right direction.
