Happy 4th of July. I want to continue some of this part of my journey. I want to thank each of you for your beautiful comments to my blog. it certainly brought a lot of emotion and the awesome feeling of who we are here on SparkPeople. Thank you.
I also learned more about my 2 sons, after they received the news. My youngest son flew in
N the next day and sort of took over, He already has pages of notes, has met with all the doctors that are part of the team. My oldest son flew in Monday and the young one flew home,
I really thought it would be easier without them here, but I am so glad they didn't Listen to me.
My neighbors have been here everyday and helping me from their units in running the building..All things coming together in balance certainly helps in a healing process.
Why I had waited to respond , we were waiting for biopsies to determi the correct approach in approaching the cancer. I don't think I mentioned a couple of signs that this cancer created,
I can not talk, very quiet, so talking on the phone is out, I do text occasionally, also , I can not walk without support, both with a walker and a person. The doctors feel the tumors are pressing on nerves. SO as part of treatment, I start chemotherapy in 10 minutes. It will appear to look no different to any one seeing it happen. The first treatments last 3 days ( sessions) and then nothing for couple weeks ,I may. Or may not feel any differences right away.
They want me to lay down so I can get the other bags attached. So till later I llove each of nofbyou very much. Monty.

    Monty,
I am glad that your sons were there for you. It is so comforting to have your family with you during this time. Your neighbors are awesome to be there for you. God certainly has put the right people in your path to help you along with your healing. I know I speak for all your Spark friends. If we could all be there praying for you and helping you right by your side, it would be just what we all would like. However prayers from Oshawa, Ontario, are with you and God has you in his healing arms surrounding you at this time.
Hang in there Monty, God is still in the miracle business.

Monty, it is very nice that your sons are there for you and that you also get support from your neighbors. You really shouldn't focus on anything else than your own health.
It is very hard to read that these tumors are causing these negative things, but hang in there. God will give the doctors the wisdom they need to treat you, and he will give you strength and peace of mind they you need right now.

It was with dread that I saw your second blog, and I was afraid to open it and read it. I want to remember by busy, active, encouraging emoticon and you shared from your heart what has already happened and I feel so bad. So glad both your sons came and you realized that they are important and you are important to them. I know we've talked about our kids before and they lead such different lifestyles that we do, but they did take the time and I know that was their way of showing you they do love you. We all do, you have made so many friends and helped so many people in just the 2 years I have known. you.

I pray the chemo is productive and does not make you feel to miserable....God is watching over you and he will not give you more than you can bear.
Blessings on you!

MY Worse blog I will ever write

Saturday, June 30, 2012

Hi my SparkFriends
This is the hardest blog I will ever write. I am in the hospital and have been since Tuesday,
I refuse to avoid this problem that I have, so I have been diagnosed with cancer of the lungs. terminal, of course, when, they are doing more tests that will give me more info. My youngest son flew in on Tuesday, has been a great help. I thought I was going home yesterday, now I am nor sure. I Will go home!,
!!!!!!!!???!!!!
For right now, I felt I needed to say something, rather than avoiding the truth.
Just a point I will say. I am responsible for my life and body. I have done quite well with weight, exercise, healthy food etc. however , that is not and will not make a healthy person. The parts I have denied, ignored and make excuses for was SMOKING. .Need I say more.
A couple friends suggested that i put this out tonight, I will have more. To say

Monty

OMG, I am so sorry... I'm glad you dropped me a note, cuz i was going along my merry way and didn't even know. I didn't know you smoked.... You made so many incredible changes in your life, I wish quitting had been one of them....I am proud to say my dd quit over a year ago and her dh a year before that. I just don't know what to say...I remember after you posted that you weight had dropped, waiting and praying it was nothing serious...You have given so much of yourself to us all. I am ashamed to say that even with all your encouragement and support I have still not been successful in taking of the weight, but I want you to know that your inspiration has helped me through so many extremely painful times, I wish I could be there to help you through yours.. I'm glad your son got out to be with you, but not for the reason he made the trip! Sorry, I'm crying, you have been such a wonderful friend to me, it hurts! I will add my prayers to all the rest.... you would be so sorely missed, but I think God has certainly made your mission known to you.... what' you've done for so many people around SP has to truly be inspired by HIM... I still can't believe you smoked and never mentioned it in all the times we talked....Wish I could be there for you. If there is anything I could do to ease your suffering, I would do it.. Praying for starters! To God be the Glory, Great Things He Hath Done, and who knows, he may have another big mission for you, either here or in HEaven...stay strong in Him.
Blessings on you...

The faintest whisper of support or encouragement uttered by a Christian in the ears of his fellow believers is heard in heaven by God.

Praying for a complete healing for you Monty. In God's name, Amen.

Sorry Monty. Even non-smokers get lung cancer though. Don't beat yourself up now. Cigarettes are horribly addictive and it is very hard for many people to quit. Why they are still legal is only because they are good business. We legislate "super sized meals" and yet cigarettes we can't get rid of. Many thoughts and prayers to you, but please... this is not your fault.

    Oh Monty,

I don't even know what to say. You have been heavy on my heart lately and now I know why. Since nearly the beginning of my spark journey and I was so broken and lost, you were there encouraging me. So much of the support and special words you wrote on my blogs got me to where I am now. God has used you in so many of our lives.

My husband is still a smoker and I absolutely HATE what it can cause in his body. I struggle with his choice to smoke every day of my life. Sometimes I hate the fact that I love a person who chooses to smoke for this very reason.

Bless you for being open and honest. More than you realize, the rest of this journey for you will make huge differences in other peoples' lives.

Don't give up though! Always, alway have hope and fight and determination to beat this! We never know the miracles God can work in our lives. Bless you son for being there for you too.

Please continue to be open and honest with us. Know that I am here for you just like you have been for me. You will be in my prayers Monty!

Monty, I want you healed and whole and full of life and energy and vim and vigor.

Jesus went to the cross for you and bore every sickness and disease and illness and pain for you.

I bind that spirit of evil cancer off of you and cast it into the sea.

I lose the healing power and love and grace of our Lord Jesus over you from the top of your head to the soles of your feet and inside and outside and every organ in your body I call renewed, restored, regenerated, rejuvinated and I establish all these words into this earth and call you healed and whole in the name of Jesus and sealed in the blood of the Lamb Jesus.

Monty you are healed by the stripes of Jesus

Thank you for being honest with us, smoking is a horrible addiction that many people no matter how bad they want to break it find the addiction is stronger than them. I fortunately was able to quit smoking about 10 years ago but my DH has been struggling to quit for the last couple of years.

I was shocked when I got on the scale!!!!

Tuesday, May 29, 2012

I would like to start this blog with some thoughts on the scale and weigh-ins. Over my 4 years here I have seen a lot of comments from members on the scale. Some days the scale was a wonderful friend and some days the scale was the most hated thing in the world. Other conversations were comments and thoughts of how often should one weigh themselves. Every day or once a week? When I started maintenance, I weighed myself every morning. It became a habit and I reassured myself each morning that I was on track, my weight never fluctuated . I guess it was several months ago, I decided that there was no reason to weigh myself daily. I thought if I started to gain weight, I would feel it in my clothes. Well, last week my walking partner asked me if I was weighing myself. I reacted and asked why, and she said, I look like I have lost weight. I reacted and said I donít think so. My clothes seemed to fit right, I couldnít see anything in the mirror. The next day, I made an appointment to get weighed. The company that I went to for my weight program requires that I come in at least 2 times a year, that is to keep my life time membership active. The last time I was there was November, so I was due to get weighed. I was shocked when I got on the scale and found that I had lost 9 pounds. I made her weigh me a second time. I am not sure what happened. I guess , being off the scale for 4 months, weight could creep up or down by small amounts. But 9 pounds is not small. Several things I need to look at. Also, I am not sure I want to stay at 159, so for maintaining purpose, I m going with the 170.At this time, I want to be sure I donít lose any more weight. If I find a answer, I will post it.

Hi, Monty. I agree with everyone else that if you're feeling good, things are probably fine, but it wouldn't hurt to get checked out. I don't know your exercise routine: Do you do any weight training? That can build muscle and put on pounds. That's what my naturally thin husband started doing about a year ago. He's now put on a total of 20 pounds, and it's all muscle. Yes, I secretly hate him. emoticon

Stay cool!

I agree that as long as you feel healthy, the 9 lbs loss is probably okay but personally, I'd have a check up to make sure there is no health reason for losing that much since your last weigh in. It's far better to be safe than sorry Monty. If there is no health problem causing the weight loss then you'll have to decide if you want to stay at that weight or go up a bit.

Whatever you find out, let us know, I'll be watching for more blogs from you!

You're talking about a 4 month span and if you are feeling good it's a reasonable loss. Still, I can understand shock!

I gave up owning a scale over 15 years ago for many of the reasons in the beginning of your blog. I just was really compulsive about weighing! I've been using the gym to weigh once or twice a month; but then I deal with the variance of time of day, clothes I'm wearing etc. Added to that is that since I've added in so many other activities that I enjoy and right now my gardens are consuming my time; I'm not getting to the gym regularly as I do in the winter months. So, today I ordered a new scale. My plan is still to just weigh once or twice a month. Wish me luck!

I really admire the fact that you've become so comfortable with your body and your lifestyle that you don't feel the "need" to weigh on a schedule. I hope to be there someday. WTG!

The news is only bad if it's an undiagnosed health problem and that's probably not the case as you didn't mention a health proiblem. You lost a lot of weight by changing your diet and exercise regimes. it seems more likely that by not monitoring your weight during maintenance you reverted to the weight loss mode and slowly lost some more weight.

Keep on truckin. emoticon

Wow Monty! Nine pounds is significant! As long as you're healthy, I wouldn't worry about weighing 159. Do you strength train at all? If you want to aim for 170, muscle could be the way to go.

Zumba Shoes????

Saturday, February 11, 2012

Yesterday at Zumba, we had a woman that fell while doing a routine. The Athletic director called for a ambulance. She was in her mid 80ís and I was told that they thought she may have broken her wrist. I know her and she is a friend of one of my neighbors, so I checked with her this morning, she dislocated her wrist and has lot of pain in the same arm. It could have been worse.
The reason she fell was probably due to the shoes she was wearing and she did have tennis shoes on. After she fell, the teacher talked to us again on the need to wear the proper shoes. If someone comes to Zumba with shoes that donít lace or have Velcro, they are not permitted to participate. Most of the people wear tennis shoes or a type that doesnít have a smooth sole. The kind of moves we make with turns and twists cannot be done smoothly with the wrong shoes. A sudden stop can create a fall or put strain on the knees. He spent about 10 minutes explaining and strongly recommended again, the need to have either dance shoes or as he explained they do make Zumba shoes. In our class, there are 3 women that have the Zumba shoes. Most, like me, wear some type of tennis shoe or as I call mine, walking shoes. My walking partner also does Zumba with me and we have discussed the idea of getting the proper shoes but have not.
Zumba is a wonderful exercise; our clubhouse offers 6 free classes a week. I take 3 classes. Our instructors are all licensed to teach Zumba and make the class fun. My class averages 50- 75 people and most of us are over 65. If you havenít tried it, look for a class in your area, and try it.
So, if you do Zumba, consider the idea of getting the proper shoes.

Monty

Well, Monty, you've done it again.
I assumed that Zumba was only for the young. My gym has regular zumba and water zumba. I guess I'll have to try them both and see what works better. Thanks for the information.

Bless her heart. That is good it was no worse than it was. I suppose I should put on my shoes when I do the Leslie Sansone DVD too but I have carpet and think it may trip me up. Thanks for the information.

The proper footwear should be worn for any exercise. I agree with the instructor of not allowing those to join in who do not have the right shoes. Safety must be first. I hope the lady recovers and returns with the right shoes.

emoticon Keep on shaking it Monty!

    Monty,
I had no idea there were zumba shoes. I just assumed my walking shoes were okay. Thanks for the info. Praying for your friend.

Hugs,
Teresa

I agree that shoes are important but without the support of my "tennis shoes" I can't take the class or my feet go numb.

So sorry to hear of her fall and hope that she is back at Zumba soon...with the right shoes on. Never knew that was important but will definitely keep that in mind. I haven't found a class here that fits in my schedule so trying to resort to tapes but they have become very expensive since it's so popular. Hope you and your walking partner will stay safe and be able to zumba together for a long time.

OMGosh, that could have been a lot worse, glad to hear she'll be ok.

I haven't done Zumba for awhile only because I had to put my gym membership on hold but I remember looking into buy special shoes for class. It makes sense to use the proper shoes considering the injures that could happen without them.

Thanks for the reminder Monty! And Kudo's to you for taking Zumba classes!

I wear Dansko tennis shoes that lace up - they support my feet and help keep my arthritis in check. I wear Dansko shoes almost exclusively now - and am so thankful they are around. They have styles of shoes for work, dress and working out.

You are right - shoes are so important to what we do!!
