Big Problem~~BAD Habit

Wednesday, April 03, 2013

One of the biggest problems I am having with getting back on track and staying on track is "mindless" snacking at night. I can go all day and feel great, manage my food and water in-take, and even exercise. But once evening comes it seems like it all goes out the window.

I have been guilty of bringing those "bad" trigger foods into the house lately. And of course one bite leads to another and then the old "we'll be good tomorrow" sets in. Then it seems like I just look for things to eat so "tomorrow" it will be gone.

Today was grocery day. NONE of these foods made it home with me. I have had a good week and I allow myself a snack between 7 and 8 and then nothing but water.

I beat this before and I know I can beat it again. I just need to turn this very bad habit into something positive. And that positive is going to be setting goals and seeing myself in a good way again.

No more negative. Turning things into positive words, thoughts and deeds. And treating myself like I really like myself and who I am!!

Not bringing things home is half the battle, isn't it?

I'm really having trouble with late night eating. I didn't used to have this problem at all, but now I really do.

I have found that warm hot chocolate (sugar free of course) or warm milk with the coffee flavors (yes, sugar free) are a good way to settle down and feel a bit satisfied. If I MUST emoticon I add two graham crackers. That "usually" does it. If it doesn't, well, at least if I shopped right, I don't have the real bad foods in the house.

It's crazy. Why is it so hard to stop eating? The mindlessness, coupled with and obsession to keep eating, is the killer.

Thanks for your blog. It a few months old, but it still helped me tonight.

Mona: Welcome to my world. I think many of us fall into that trap. One thing that helps me is having healthy snacks already prepared so that I don't go off the edge. Veggies and dip are good, as well as hot tea.

You took two important steps - you cleared your house of the goodies and you made yourself accountable to your friends! I have GERD so try to not eat at night -- I have made a pact with my mom (she is 88 and still wants to lose weight!!) -- no desserts till June 17 *nephews graduation weekend) -- want to join us? (we will make an exception for Gary's birthday on 4/12). emoticon

I used to be a night feeder as well until I got sever GERD and made the rule of no eating after after 8 P.M. It works for me and I find that a we ll thought out snack around that time is enough. Good job on not bringing home the "goodies" or more accurately the "badies" . I find that if I don't buy them I'm forced to eat healthy.

Well done Mona....the issue with most of those snacks is that we get 'addicted' to them and our bodies crave them...that's when we feel helpless.
You did the best thing....leave them in the store!! emoticon

I am so happy that I lost 8 pounds this month and facing the fact that this must be a lifelong journey. I thought I had this firmly planted in my mind before. No excuses~~bad choices!! Back to good choices and a healthy life. So glad Spark is here for me.

My Mom's Memorial Service

Sunday, November 25, 2012

Yesterday, November 24, we had the most beautiful Memorial Service for my Mom. All four of my children and their spouses and my seven grandchildren plus Megan's dear husband and my precious great grandson were there. My two oldest shared memories of their Grandmother and they had us crying and laughing. My Mom was truly a "life is all about my family" person. Dennis was by my side and I know he was very touched by all that the kids had to say.

My Pastor did a wonderful eulogy and shared beautiful scripture that was comforting and challenging. Even though Mom wasn't a member of my church he visited her just about every day that she was in the hospital. And she told him she felt that he had become her friend. She also assured him that she knew the Lord as her Saviour.

Several friends from her church came to the service and several close friends from my church were there. The rest were all family. And it was a real celebration of her life. Just what she would have wanted. We all knew she was smiling down on us.

Her interment will be in PA in June as she requested. She did not want buried in the winter because all of her family had become "southerners" and did not drive in snow and winter weather.

I miss her but I know she is with the Lord and will rejoice this holiday season with Him and her family that has gone before her. In my lonely times this is what I am going to focus on.

Her last words to me were, "I love you so much". And even though we had our ups and downs in life she was and always be "my Mom"~~I love you!!

Taking a Spark Break

Monday, March 26, 2012

I was really hoping that I would not have to do this, but I am really getting overwhelmed with being in pain, not sleeping, getting ready for my son and family to visit and of the arrival of my new great grandson.

I have been authorized to have my surgery so as soon as I can get set up with the doctor I am going to have it right away. I will post it on my status when I know the exact date. It should be quite soon.

I will be checking my regular e-mails so if you post on my spark page I will see it. I just cannot do my teams and track food and I am not doing any real exercise right now.

Amazingly I am losing a bit~~very slowly but it is coming down. I am very confident that once I get through this I will get back and track and lose the rest of this weight once and for all.

I have made so many wonderful friends and I hope you will remember to pray for me. I will just be so glad when this is all over.

Love, hugs and prayers to you all. emoticon emoticon emoticon
