Great idea! I started these kind of accountability blogs about 48 blogs ago and it's definitely helped me stay accountable. I like being able to change up my goals and only having to think about the day ahead. Here's to having a successful day!!

5% Challenge - Blog Questions 1, 2, & 3.

Wednesday, March 06, 2013

1) What new habit you wish to develop?
I don't really have a new habit to develop, but rather a bad habit that I would like to change. I have a really bad coffee habit. I can drink up to as many as 10 cups of coffee a day. I drink my coffee black with splenda so it doesn't really effect my calorie intake, but it is still not a great habit. So I would like to get to the point that I am only drinking 1 or 2 cups a day. emoticon

2) How will you do that?
My plan is to slowly cut it out. In the morning when I get to work the first thing I do is fill my coffee cup. This week I have been also filling my water cup. This way I when I finish my first cup I already have water at my desk and I am less likely to go get more coffee.

3) What are you doing to encourage yourself and keep on track?
I am going to start tracking my coffee cups through out the day on my nutrition tracker.

I like how you are changing a bad habit this week - that is a different take than what I've been seeing others do, myself included! I blogged about how the hubs and I go through two pots of coffee per day when I work from home...that amounts to about four cups for me, but if I switch straight over to my Diet Dr. Pepper, I can go a full day without drinking *any* water. Crazy!! I really like your idea of getting coffee and filling your water bottle up at the same time...that sounds like a great strategy, and one I can implement myself!

This is a good plan. Also, try going half caff, that helped me when I had to cut my habit before. I drink 1-2 a day now :-)

Setback vs. Failure

Thursday, January 31, 2013

This picture was in the daily email today.

It got me thinking about how I look at things.
One of my biggest problem it that I always to feel like I fail over and over again. Every time I go over my calories or forget to track my food or don't have time to workout, I tell myself that I failed. I don't want to fail or feel like a failure, but I do. I need to change that thinking. I have never felt that my health is not worth the effort. I have slipped up, gotten busy, become distracted. So I guess that I have had suffered setbacks and I need to start looking at them as setbacks rather than failure. I will always be worth the effort, even when I don't have time to put in the work.

We all have set backs and have felt we have failed but in reality we have just slipped up, we are human.
I love your statement
I will always be worth the effort, even when I don't have time to put in the work.

You inspire me to keep going emoticon emoticon emoticon

You are worth the effort! It doesn't help the cause when you look at yourself as a failure. Feeling guilty about something you've done only makes things worse I think.
You CAN do it. Think positively!

Sister, you have done so much!!! I admire you! I wish I could do as much as you have. I wouldn't even consider those days setbacks, just lovely days in almost-or-complete maintenance. Are you close or there?

I think you make a valid point. In the past I let setbacks become excuses. If I didn't make it to the gym one day, I would just give up for the rest of the week. I recently made a motivational collage of exercise quotes and I think it is helping me change my mindset. Right now my favorite one is, "I'm not losing weight. I'm getting rid of it. I have no intention of finding it again." Sometimes it just takes one thing to help get your mind back on track. emoticon emoticon

Update on Me

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

It has been a long time since I posting a blog, and I have been trying to get my focus back, so I thought I would give everyone an update on what I have been up to since my last blog.

I did the Women's 5K classic competive walk in October. It was chilly but I completed the walk in a personal best 43:56! I think next year I am going to enter the run cause I can always walk in the run but you can't run in the walk (they will disqualify you).

Then Hurrican Sandy took the area by storm! We lost power for several days and cable/internet for even longer. Halloween (one of my favorite holidays) was almost completely ruined. But power came back just in time for annual party for some minor revisions.

Then I was travelling for work for a week. Michigan in November is not my idea of fun but at least the hotel had a nice fitness center and I was able to get some workout time in. Which was actually really good cause they kept feeding us really well.

Then it was time for Thanksgiving. I ate way to much Turkey and such. I ending up bring home a ton of food, too.

Yesterday, I returned to Philly where I went to college and lived for four long years with some girlfriends to see The Gaslight Anthem play at the Electric Factory. We all went to school in Philly at different times, so we all had different memories and ideas of where we should go before and after the show. We decided (after much begging and pleaing) that we should find parking around Spring Garden and 5th and then walking around and to the show. Well on 5th right at Spring Garden the street parking was free with no time limit, awesome I budgeted $20 for parking. We had dinner at the Silk City Diner, which has changed so much since I was there last. It looks the same but it was no longer standard greasy diner food, it was awesome food. We split an asian salmon burger, french dip, and charizo flatbread. All were delicous! From there we decided to walk around for a little bit and see what has changed and what is still the same. We ended up at McFaddin's on 3rd. Then it was time to walk to the show at the Electric Factory on 7th. The show was awesome.

They played for almost two hours and we were jumping around dancing and screaming the whole time. I mapped out all the walking we did last night and it ended up being 1.85 miles, it didn't seem like it at the time and in the cold. All in all it was a great day. Sometime I miss the city but a visit will do.

Now I need to figure out a plan to make it through the holidays. I am open for suggestions.

How did i miss this blog? Anyway, great job on your PR and way to go on all that Philly walking! I sure miss being able to walk places as it was never hard to get my fitness in when I lived there! Happy New Year (even though I know this blog is from November, LOL)

Sounds like you had a great catch up. I'm glad you were able to have a party too, our son was without power for 12 days and is now waiting to have a gas powered generator fitted.
Good luck with your Christmas eating. We are back in NJ for Christmas but hopefully not eating out quite so much! I think lifelong Sparkers just accept that back on the wagon is the only way to win the battle of the bulge.
Thanks for all your hard work with the Starfish team, we couldn't do it without you!
big hugs, Sandra
