Do you know your Daily Calorie Differential ? I didn't,but was surprised to find...

A few days ago, I was looking at my reports when I came upon the Daily Calorie Differential report.It tells what you are eating{total calories} vs. what you are burning{calories burned}and your BASAL METABOLIC RATE. So now I can see how the pounds are going based on my metabolic rate of calories burned! This is helpful to me in that I now know how many calories{AHEAD OF TIME!} I can consume to keep my wt. the same, or to lose wt. or even to gain wt. What this means to me is that when I weigh myself ,it no longer will be as surprising, but at the same time,I CAN MONITOR MORE CLOSELY my intake since I now have a ball park figure not to exceed. It may not mean much to others, but it HELPS ME TREMENDOUSLY to gain a foothold on helping me lose safely andhave a NEW MINDSET on what I am going to eat or ,according to my intakes, if I'm low on protein that day, to increase it!     I found this tool this week too. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it but your right its very valueable information. I knew ahead of time that if the #'s were right that I should of lost a pound and 1/2 this week, and I did loose a pound and with the scale I currently have, I could of lost that 1/2 pound too. My scale doesn't do 1/2's

    I love this, I just looked it up, so parden my stupidity, but the negative differential at the bottom is what you totally burned..Meaning I have all negatives, does this mean I am losing to fast? Or not eating enough calories? As I looked back thru the week, I have had many -800 days, is this good? Thank you for the information ...and for learning this, I think this will be a great tool. I have been really tired this week, so maybe I need a few more calories?

    I love the whole thing that SparkPeople is - there are so many useful tools! Thanks to the nutritional reports, I learnt that I was consuming far more iron than I thought. But the source is not so good as it's chocolate so I'll need to change that. But I would never have guessed it otherwise. So I completely agree with you - SP is an eye-opener!

An interesting turn of events in the Biggest Loser competition{through our MOMs Club}. One mom admitted to {her shame, she said} that she is losing weight through an artifcial means-HCG diet-{never heard of it} and some spray under her tongue. She only eats 500 calories a day for a certain amt. of days. She has lost 18 lbs. I was surprised that someone would go to that great lengths to win a competition ,but I just want to be concentrating on myself and how happy I am with my progress of 13.4 lbs. ,47pts.down on my total cholestrol, how HEALTHY and FULL OF ENERGY I feel,enabling me to play with my toddler and not feeling worn out!! I feel pity for others who cannot "play by the rules " andfeel the need to win "at all costs". What is being done to one's body will eventually play itself out.....

    About 16 years ago, I went on an extreme diet. I received (what I was told were vitamin B)shots 3 times a week and ate 600-800 calories (mostly protein)a day. I did lose 55 pounds in a short 3 month period. But then I regained the 55 pounds over the next 6 months and added an additional 40 pounds as well!
Trust me, the slow and steady healthy way is the only way to really succeed at this "game". After all, you don't want to just lose the weight, you want to maintain that loss. This other woman will likely regain all her weight (plus more) and be in worse shape than she is now.
Even if she wins the prize at the end of your competition, you will be the real winner! emoticon

    As others have said, it is just a matter of time till she finishes this diet & then regains all lost weight. She is not learning how to change her eating habits so she will revert back to the same foods & portions that got her where she was when she started this diet. I guess if her only motivation is to WIN this particular contest then that is her choice...but a pretty drastic program in my opinion.

    I agree with all the above comments! I've tried a fad diet or two, but they never have had lasting effects for me. I'm committed to being healthier all around, not just weighing less. Good for you and hope you do well in the competition!

    Well and the sad thing is that when she does finish loosing she won't be able to maintain it at that rate and she'll be right where she is now. Congrats on feeling better! I feel the same way, full of energy and excited to be healthier...not just skinny!

    You are the winner in our hearts. Taking diet drugs and depriving your body of wholsome nutrients will hurt her in the end. She will get hungry and thats not a good thing. Because when she does get hungry she will put anything in her mouth. What do the others say. Do they know?
I watch the biggest looser everyweek, has anyone else noticed how they all cry A LOT! its got to be hormones or vitamine defincency somethings up with that. I'm so much happier now then I ever have been and I know its because I'm following the rules. and exercising.

    I agree, plus who wants to use some weird spray and deprive themselves by only eating 500 calories per day. I know for me personally that wouldn't last long, and I would binge...probably on doughnuts. I think the SparkDiet is definately the was to go. Biggest Loser while it is very entertaining to watch, and sometimes motivates me to go exercise when I don't want to it also uses some very extreme measures that are doable for those people at the ranch, but just don't make sense or fit into a "normal" person's daily activities.

All this week every number that needed to go down has and can't wait for next month to measure the inches,but what is GREAT {!} is the ENERGY LEVEL!!!!!! It is HIGH EVERY DAY!!!! It's so nice to chase after my toddler and watch HIM get tired!!!! Or to go to the Jumping Jacks { a place with bouncers like trampoline & a lot of obstacle courses , climbing and sliding down....} And say ,"ok,they're closing....What do you want to do next?"Having this energy to spend with my toddler is PRICELESS--and aren't those the BEST things in life?!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

    I am so happy for you! I am a fairly new member but have also found that the 8 pounds I have lost have made a marked difference in the way I feel! I thought it was more important to me to look better but have quickly found that it is the way I feel that is much more important! Thank you for reminding us of this wonderful benefit! emoticon

How can I express it? It keep getting BETTER being on sparkpeople!!! What I mean is.... lost ANOTHER pound{!},keep losing the inches{ I have to keep readjusting the Garmin heart monitor when I run {translate looser around just under chest--upper core{!}, and to top it off--LOWER cholestrol numbers ----Down from 268 to 221--total cholestrol=from HIGH RISK to Borderline High(should be under 200 for normal) for a total of 47 pts.!!!----in 2 mos. no less!!! Sparkpeople with its calorie -Nutrition tracker and Fitness Tracker and wonderful supportive sparkers have helped achieve this ,and of course, my VERY supportive hubby giving me GREAT incentives besides my own and my own lil' toddler coach who pushes me to jumprope ,play basketball {Ba-sick-a-ball!,he calls it!} and t-ball almost every day when I don't always feel like it!!!! I now know behind every great weight loss is ALOT OF SUPPORTIVE PEOPLE IN THE BACKGROUND HELPING THE LOSSEE!!!!!! Thank you, everyone!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticonP.S.I finally got my picture {2 years ago} on the site in the gallery;I apologize for cake pics --just joined Sparkteam -Cake Decorators Unite! -and got carried away...Didn't realize til this morning ,might not help people to see cakes. So ,will get rid of them soon and put up more inspiring pictures.Just wanted to show other cakes to cake decorators as we were discussing them....

I was thinking about learning how to do it, would probably save money on birthday cakes, that and I have been planning to scrapbook for years, just haven't been in the mood. Here's to eating oatmeal every day, working out, having lost 12.2 far in 2 mos.,raising my metabolism,making better food choices and exercising regularly at least 3x/a wk. {for now} AND.....seeing my cholestrol numbers go DOWN, DOWN, DOWN to a pt. where the doctor says " Cholestrol? You must be mistaken. YOU don't have high cholestrol!!!! " Well,getting it checked today.... and will keep you posted! Thanks for reading! emoticon emoticon emoticon
Update: Total Cholestrol=221 {DOWN 47 POINTS!!!!}
LDL =from HIGH down to BORDERLINE HIGH=143
HDL=62 GOOD {over 45=is good}
Triglycerides=79 GOOD{under 150= is good} Helpful Info.----For every 2 lbs. lost, 1 point goes down!
Just goes to show me what I always knew---I CAN beat my family's history of high cholestrol if I lose the weight!!! I figure 11 lbs. more and I 'll be at my weight goal and under 200=normal total cholestrol level. And thanks to all the sparkers who brighten my day with morale-building comments{especially RONIE11 !!!} . You all help SO MUCH!!! Also thanks to the Cholestrol Support Team---I love the huddles!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
