15 Tips To Help~How I Lost the Weight And Maintained it for 7 Mos.!-LONG BLOG-but, it may help !

Friday, December 31, 2010

Since today is New Year's Eve and I DO make resolutions [but mostly they turn into Short term goals}, I wanted to reflect on a New Year's Resolution that TURNED into a LONG TERM GOAL~~LOSING THE WEIGHT AND KEEPING IT OFF!
I joined SP January 21,2010 after being introduced to the site by a fellow mom in my local MOMS Club who ,like me, was entered in our MOMS Club Biggest Loser Competition.

1-Have a friendly competition to keep you interested in losing the weight---it may be with your spouse or a friend or friendS.It's easier to focus on losing the weight when it is being done by MORE THAN JUST YOURSELF!

I saw the site and was a bit overwhelmed by everything,BUT when I saw the Nurtition Tracker that COUNTED MY CALORIES FOR ME [and all I had to do was put them in!---I know,ALOT of WORK,but WORTH IT!],I saw the possibilities of finally achieving WT.LOSS!

2-Don't get overwhelmed on SP BY TRYING TO DO EVERYTHING AT ONCE! When I joined, I did NOT track my nutrition the first day.I just familiarized myself with the site. Then,THE NEXT DAY,I TRACKED and with a few exceptions--being ill or unable to get to the computer or---[ too busy--THAT's happened maybe 3-or less times THIS YEAR],I have FAITHFULLY TRACKED MY FOOD .
3-Tracking my food DAILY on the Nutrition Tracker made all the difference!
Realizing I was turning 50 this year,I set a goal of losing all the wt. by my birthday.
4- Set a GOAL!
When I realized I couldn't REACH MY GOAL by the allotted time[3mos.1week] I had given myself,I changed the time allotment!
5-RESET YOUR GOAL TIME ALLOTMENT!
As I got used to tracking the food,I didn't worry about staying in my range, just tracking the food!I was only able to stay in my caloric range of 1300-1500cals. 8x the first month.
6-I tried to stay in my range ,but it WAS HARD THE FIRST MONTH ,and my body was adjusting to the changes ,so I did NOT sweat it!
HOWEVER,I DID SWEAT the big stuff like working out IN SOME FORM OF EXERCISE every day!I did NOT do fitness til the SECOND WEEK of being on SP. I had learned to track my food[though still not eating as healthy as I could] and now I added tracking my fitness!
7-After allowing yourself some TIME TO LEARN ONE SKILL,THEN ADD ANOTHER! I tracked my fitness EVERY DAY THE FIRST TWO MONTHS and started losing the weight!
I regained my metabolism and got my BASAL METABOLIC RATE[BMR] HIGHER due to the fact I was STRENGTH TRAINING 3X A WEEK on my Soloflex machine. [I recommend working out at home--it's hard for me to get to the gym with a 3 yo & no daycare at my gym!].
I lost TEN POUNDS the FIRST TWO MONTHS and was still having difficulty with my caloric range but WAS DOING BETTER,LITTLE BY LITTLE IN MY FOOD CHOICES!
8-STRENGTH TRAINING BURNS LONGER than Cardio! You burn cals.for 30 minutesafter Cardio, but YOU BURN CALS. FOR TWO HOURS AFTER STRENGTH TRAINING!
I had to look for something to do on my other two days of working out{the weekends were for fun things to do & REST!] and found it in the form of LESLIE SANSONE'S WALK SLIM DVD.
9-When working out every day,MIX-UP THE ROUTINE!
I had trouble with the food choices in April and May and my losing weight hit a plateau. So I asked ADVICE FROM SPARKERS on a blog and was told UP THE CARDIO!
10- If you've upped the Strength Training,UP THE CARDIO!
My plateau lifted and it was on to losing LAST FEW POUNDS [mind you,I'm still having trouble staying in my caloric range]. I changed MY CALORIC RANGE due to my ST allowed me MORE CALS.--I had checked my Daily Calorie Differential on the Reports on the Toolbar and I could see why I felt hungry--I was burning so many cals. ,I NEEDED MORE CALS. to fuel my energy. I was now PORTIONING my food to get a handle on it.
11-PORTION YOUR FOOD!
It all came together after only 4 months on SP! I had lost 19.4 lbs! I RESET MY GOAL WEIGHT! I wanted to be finished and I was .6 of a lb. away!
12-RESET YOUR GOAL WEIGHT IF YOU NEED TO! IT TAKES OFF THE STRESS!
Wouldn't you know,I lost the .6 of a lb. a week later!I was now focused on MAINTAINING MY WT.LOSS and boy,was I SCARED! What if it all came back on? I had lost 22 lbs. off of Richard Simmons CLOSE-THE-WINDOW- tool of after what you eat, close the photo icon windows and I regained 15 of the pounds! I just continued to workout daily [resting at least 1x/wk. and sometimes my "workouts' consisted of heavy cleaning--I'm a stay-at-home mom!] or walking to & from the park with my hubby & 3 yo son! And I KEPT TRACKING MY FOOD & PORTIONING IT!
13-When on MAINTENANCE,keep doing what you did to LOSE THE WT.=EXERCISE +FOOD PORTIONING+GOOD FOOD CHOICES!The weight STAYED OFF!
Now MY BIGGEST FEAR FACTOR was Thanksgiving and Christmas---holidays in which I ALWAYS GAINED a pound or two. But due to portioning + exercise,I PASSED BOTH HOLIDAYS WITH FLYING COLORS!
14-When eating during HOLIDAYS--SAMPLE PORTION THE FOODS [bite size pieces & not too many--- get you through the cookie exchanges & parties].
Lastly,I never gave up hope & my hubby & sparkteams were there to HELP!
15-You have to BELIEVE IN YOURSELF & NOT GIVE UP,THINKING emoticonbecause YOU CAN! Plus it HELPS TO JOIN A SPARKTEAM FOR SUPPORT AND HAVE SUPPORTIVE PEOPLE AT HOME!!!!
If I CAN DO IT, YOU CAN,TOO! Being ON SP is an important step to YOUR GOAL OF LOSING WT. I fought that weight for TWELVE YEARS and WON! YOU CAN,TOO! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

What Nutrient[s] do you find it Hard to Attain the Minimum???Any Solutions?

Thursday, December 30, 2010

Mine are Folate & Protein. I found a way to get my Folate that I can handle--Chocolate Cheerios --1 cup a day helps me reach my 100 range minimum.
I am consistently low in Protein ,reaching 60-75 when my minimum is 80 . Any suggestions???
What Nutrients are you having a hard time attaining??? Or are you successful in each Nutrient area?? emoticon

Well, since I take a multivitamin, I don't worry about folate. My things to watch are fiber and protein. For protein I make sure I get a protein source at EVERY meal. For fiber I try to get whole grains or bran or get a Fiber One product with most of the meals.

Well,my Loss is Someone Else's Gain!

Wednesday, December 29, 2010

The" loss" is a purse at the zoo yesterday and while it is painful to have to re-do everything & close accounts & get new cards, etc. ,my hubby put it simply when we prayed for dinner that night~~"...I guess, Lord ,the people who found the purse needed it MORE than we do!" A good example he is setting for our young child and it taught ME not to FOCUS on the worldly possessions, but on GOD,who is eternal. ALL IS HIS and it is lent to us only for a little while.
"Rejoicing in hope;PATIENCE in TRIBULATION;continuing instant in prayer." Romans12:12
"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
For WHERE YOUR TREASURE IS, there will BE YOUR HEART ALSO."Matthew 6:19-21

I'm sorry that you lost your purse.. Was it lost or stolen? if you just forgot it or it fell somewhere you might still get it back. Some people just turn it in to the office at the zoo or they may not trust the employees and take it to the police station. At any rate the up side is you get to buy a new purse..LOL I love purses.. at all times I have at least 2 purse designs going on in my head.. I have a camping purse made out of blue jeans that I'm itching to make.. its out of my old jeans that are too big now... I hope the person who finds it or took it would at least return the personal items, credit cards and cash would be way too much to think of getting back..

Ack! A purse is a woman's identity! But yes, it is possible that the person who found it needs it more than you do. But it WOULD be nice if they returned it!

Hopefully whoever found it will turn it in. It is a pain to have to redo everything all over again, but I agree with your hubby, someone may have needed it more than you and if they don't need it then it might be at the lost and found in the Zoo. I would call and check.

Good way to look at it, but still a pain for you with all the identification, etc. you have to deal with to be safe. Did you check with the zoo again today to see if they have it?

Yes that's what I usually say...someone must need it more the we do...But why do people have to do it is the question only God and answer.
Have a blessed new year!! emoticon emoticon
