Well,It's The Day After Thanksgiving,How are you doing?

Friday, November 26, 2010

Well, it's the day after Thanksgiving, how are you doing? I surprised myself! Of course, we were eating at home with all the fixings and no relatives--just the three of us. But I still did MEASURE my portions and limit myself to one helping{either 1 cup or 1/2 cup} of each--except one dish.
Here was our menu~~
-Herb roasted Turkey prepared by my hubby[had two slices]
-Stuffing using bread, onions, celery ,spices & 1 apple~also prepped by hubby
-Mashed Potato Casserole with melted cheese ~~I will eventually get the recipe for Sparkers from my hubby!
_Green Bean Casserole{from Sam's --didn't know it had cooked mushrms.--I only like mine raw!---so had only 1/4 cup serving }
-Pumpkin Pie ~~Prepared by me!
Though we had apple juice, I had my glasses of water.
Now we had prepared throughout the afternoon to eat @ dinnertime so I snacked for lunch.
I DID have an additional half piece of pie as I put away everything in the fridge as my hubby had gone to bed early w/ preschooler!
What was interesting to me is that I did stick to measuring & portioning my food! I guess when you've put in a long time--almost a year for me --- of working on eating better and more proportionately, it sticks in your brain & is the GOOD HABIT that I've always wanted to have ,but due to my upbringing with food & holidays, this holiday & Christmas have always been my HARDEST TO OVERCOME & I've always GAINED the pounds!
What's EVEN MORE INTERSTING to me is that I did NOT FEEL I was LACKING any food{since I tried them all} and I didn't feel stuffed either--A NEW feeling for me!:)
I'm happy to say I've not gained any and have kept the maintenance going--however, after TWO days of no exercise, my hubby , my preschooler & I are going running {our preschooler does biking on his lil'two-wheeler w/ training wheels} !!!!!!
Hope your Thanksgiving was satisfying for you ,too!!!! emoticon

We have had friends staying with us since Wednesday, and more visiting to socialize.

I have eaten tiny amounts of everything, so I didn't feel left out or deprived. Since I did all the cooking (with kitchen help) I was able to make everything as lowfat as possible, so no dishes loaded up with fat, butter, cream, etc. I passed on gravy and had only 1/2 a roll. I did have 2 slivers over two days of the fantastic pumpkin cheesecake (cooking light!).

I "spent" my extra calories on vodka and cranberry juice cocktail, which I stretched out as far as possible by the addition of LOTS of seltzer!

I ahve to admit that my plate was full but it was just a little bit of everything - and it was all so good. But my body was not use to eating that much and I was stuffed - even after running/waling 10 miles!!

Kudos to you - you are doing such an awesome job!! emoticon

I am so proud of you for maintaining so well.. I didn't actually measure but I did estimate in my head. I automatically put certain amount of food on my plate.. I did pick at the turkey and I had a glass of wine.
I need to get back to my exercise routine.. I'm up a little this last week but thats ok because I know I will loose it in a few days too..
It sounds like you had a great thanksgiving meal.. I made mine all from scratch and I even baked the pumpkin for the pie from scratch... LOL I know it wasn't all sugar.. I even had a little extra before bed..LOL once a year indulgence.. is ok..
Take care ... Ronie

I did well with my food choices yesterday too. We went to a friend's home and the supply of food was not lacking. LOL I chose mostly veggies (thankfully there were lots of those), a little turkey, dressing (made with apples and raisins), potatoes (that had cheese and bacon in them) and one roll. I did indulge in a glass of red wine (twice a year usually) and then some pie for dessert. I stuck to the pumpkin.

Today I'm hitting it hard though as the scale was up. I'm going to get this weight off and be on maintenance with you by the end of 2011. That's my goal! I'll take it in small chunks though.

Betsy, I know EXACTLY what you mean! I felt like I'd over-indulged yesterday, even though I was really trying to be careful. What JOY filled me when I logged EVERY bite and saw I was well within calorie range yesterday! SP ROCKS!!! This "healthy lifestyle" stuff is for REAL! It definitely is NOT a diet, but changes we've each chosen, to be fit and healthy for LIFE!

I gained 1/2 pound since my last weigh in Wednesday. The girls and I took a walk around the blocks yesterday ( even though we had some blowing snow) and I went to Curves today. I am back to being good today! Not to bad.
You did a great job! emoticon emoticon

I'm soooo jealous;) We had ham only so I feel like a stay puff marshmallow;) I ate more vegies, but as I was setting there I realized everything except the ham and dressing was prepared with sugar. emoticon I'm surprised I didn't go into a sugar coma emoticon It was only one meal, but it feels like it's still with me!!!! Today is a new day and I'm on track and will remain that way!!!!! I'm really proud of you and you have sparked me once again!!!! emoticon emoticon

This Year I'm Especially Thankful For...

Wednesday, November 24, 2010

-My getting back my good health! I've had the worst bout with my asthma I've had in 5 years & got Bronchitis on top of that!
-My precious husband and child!!!! They have supported me being on SP even though it has eaten into "their time" with me as I logged in my food daily[besides all the other stuff I like to do on SP]!And our furbabies-Georgie Girl & Blackie and the rest of our animal family!
-My wonderful new SP friends I have met this year---you have ALL been so supportive & helpful!
-Finding this oh-so-helpful site that helped lose the wt. forever that I fought for 12 yrs.! AND is helping me to MAINTAIN that wt.loss{b/c ~~ a weight loss is only as GOOD as the maintenance that FOLLOWS IT!}
-My siblings--whether supportive or not--I love them all!
-My local MOMS Club and all the new friends my 3 yo & I met this year! They are so fun to be with and we all love chatting about our kids and the difficulties we each face raising them while we go on field trips and do fun stuff at each others' houses!
If you are a stay-at-home mom w/babies AND /OR preschoolers (ages 2-5) ,this is a WONDERFUL opportunity to meet new moms that support each other---I had my hubby find our local club on the web. The cost is $25.00 dues 1x /yr.
Have a blessed Thanksgiving !!!God is SO GOOD with these and ALL His blessings that overflows in our lives --mainly His Son Jesus!!!!! emoticon

My 10th Month Sparkversary....Some Changes I've Made...

Sunday, November 21, 2010

Today it marks TEN MONTHS since I joined SP and lost the weight[4 mos.]and have maintained it[6mos.]!!!!!Some of the changes I've made-----

From "cereal bars" like Nature Valley's Sweet & Salty bars or their granola bars to 1/2cup 2% cottage cheese or Emerald Cocoa Roast almonds{27 almonds= 1 oz=150 cal.}.
From cold cereal every day to hot oatmeal with some fresh fruit {blueberries, strawberries, blackberries or peaches] every day--It LOWERED my cholestrol 77pts[when I added daily exercise with it].!
From sometimes having chips, cookies, cake ,pie or sweets in the house[b/c I like to bake & LOVE to eat them!] to NONE in the house on a daily basis---if we have a birthday party or celebration, the "sweets--cake,etc." stays ONE DAY in the house and that's it! OR we celebrate "OUT" and the cake is eaten @ the restaurant!!
From not knowing portions to MEASURING them EXACTLY {still--I do it! I need to!}!
From sometimes trying to get some exercise in to ALWAYS getting inEXERCISE IN SOME FORM-walking,running,playing ACTIVE games with our child,visiting places with our child that REQUIRES hiking,walking,etc. or exercising @ the gym 1 day/a week.Exercise does have MORE SIDE BENEFITS than just burning cals.--it can lower your blood pressure, your total cholestrol and UP your healthy cholestrol.{source: The Doctor's Food Remedies Book by Selene Yeager and the Editors of PREVENTION magazine.}

What I need to still work on[there'll always be something!]:

getting in MORE glasses of water than the 4 -I drink a day- 8 is still up there for me!
eating MORE fruit and raw veggies for snacks!
cooking EVEN MORE SP Recipes for dinner than before!
being MORE active with my 3 yo--so HE can get the energy OUT and I can BURN MORE CALS.!!!!
trying to keep encouraging my hubby with his exercise & breakfast of oatmeal {his cholestrol is a little bit high].
Hope any of this information is helpful to Sparkers--whether just starting out emoticonor Sparkers who have been at it for a while emoticon, too! emoticon
Here's poem for encouragement sent by one of my Homeschooling Team Leaders~~

When the week seems long and successes few
And at weigh-in time you're feeling blue,

Remember tomorrow is just for you--

To start again means a victory's been won
And starting over again means a race well run

And starting over again proves it can be done
So don't just sit there---

Great changes!! I also need to drink more water, eat more veggies for snacks, get more exercise, only eat sweet treats for one day and then get it out of the house, and exercise more... although I'm doing better on all accounts since I've joined SP! emoticon

Thanks for sharing the specific changes that helped with your weight loss. That good old oatmeal really is healthy, more natural and not over refined with additives like many cold cereals. Keep up the great work. I like that poem a I am starting over every day.
