It's December 1st...What's On YOUR To-Do List Today???

Wednesday, December 01, 2010

For the month of December, I usually do some Christmasy item each day. Since I got the tree and "Snow Village " up early this year, I guess today will be the mantel!
What's on YOUR to -do list?--Can be anything....:)

Finish shopping for what my kids NEED and let them do a little friend cousin shopping.
My girls put our little CHRISTmas tree up their selves this year. They did a good job! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Good Job! My to-do list today was at work -- how much could I do ahead for my office manager/friend who will be covering my desk AND hers for the month? I got bulletins for the next 3 Sundays + Christmas Eve; the Newsletter is ready to proof and then send out at month-end; phone messages reflect coming events (and mine says basically DO NOT leave me messages - I'm gone!) Felt good when I finished the day -- can't think of anything else I could have done ahead. And now I'm On Vacation!!

Starting a Christmas Tradition~~~By the Way,What's YOURS????

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

This year our 3 yo is taking more of an INTEREST in Christmas. Maybe b/c of some traditions I started last year~~like Lighting the Advent wreath and reading a part of the Christmas story from the Book of Matthew in the Bible with my preschooler or counting the days to Christmas using an Advent calendar that shows all the participants in the Christmas story ~~and the signifigance of each one with a Bible verse to match!
He is so delighted to participate in these traditions as it helps {in my opinion } to familiarize him with the origins of Christmas and WHY we celebrate the coming[or ADVENT] of Jesus!
This year a new tradition for him [AN OLD FAMILY ONE FOR ME that I ALWAYS LOOKED FORWARD to!!]is trimming the tree! He received unbreakable ornaments to put on the tree and his very own FIRST ONE~~ a Noah's Ark to commemorate his love of Noah's Ark since he saw Baby Einstein 's Baby Noah DVD when he was 9 month s old and just LOVED seeing all the animals in it!
Do you have a Christmas tradition that you do or that you do with your child/children each year? Please share.... emoticon emoticon emoticon

I love your tradition, that is so wonderful to have the little guy so involved about this very special Holiday! I love it! My daughter usually puts the tree together for us, but her and my son pick a different theme color for the tree (we recycle all the ornaments and use them in different ways each year). She decorates with whatever the color is then we put a few other ornaments on the tree. I need to downsize the tree this year. Since I have taken over the living room with all my scrapbook stuff.

Your traditions are great! Now that my children are grown and live farther away, It really is hard to have traditions for just Husband and me. He used to be into putting up the tree and all, but now that the kids are grown he has lost interest. I've tried to keep the excitement going with the kids I watch, but they are from a different life-style than ours so it's hard. We are making ornaments for them to take home and hang on their tree. Reading lots of stories about the True Christmas and hoping they remember it when they are grown. I've only got another year to teach them about Jesus.

Our kids love seeing their past ornaments each year as we get everything out to decorate. We give them each one that tells of something they enjoyed/did that year on Christmas Eve. I still love the one from a couple years ago for Maegann...she was baptized and I found a Hallmark heart wreath and put a photo in it of her and Pastor Sara in the water. She cried it was so special! This year a Cabbage Patch doll and a Buzz Lightyear....

All of our kids' lives we have gotten them each an ornament. Now, they're grown, and we've started doing it with the grandkids (well only one so far). emoticon

Taking The Time With My Lil' One...

Sunday, November 28, 2010

This morning before church, after we ate our breakfast,we got out my 3 yo's collection of plastic frogs & turtles and proceeded to have a conversation about how some turtles are the same and some are different;some live on land and others are sea turtles. Then ,I went on SP to huddle and he came over to me & said"Can you get off the computer & play with me with the turtles again?" Such little things like playing with plastic turtles mean the WORLD to them. So, I'm off to go play....!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

What a Wise Mama you are! You won't regret it, my friend! "Playing with my son" these days takes a different form -- Words With Friends on our I-pads (Scrabble-type game). In the old days -- with the tiles and board, I was on top most of the time ... since he's been playing online so much, he can beat me by 100 points! Oh My -- but it's fun to have that "playtime" with him.

I love it! HOW I wish I'd done that very thing when my kids were asking for my time and I was sitting on my butt playing hearts with online friends I didn't even know! That was 10 years ago, and I can't take it back, but I try very hard to stay off the computer when they're over now! emoticon emoticon emoticon

That is so true.. in my last job I sometimes had to take care of the little boy who lived there too.. he started off at age 5 and is now 8 and I would always have to tell him ... let me finish this up and then we can play... there are so cute when they are young.. oh they are cute when they are older too.. I just have to giggle at my son's "revelations in life" we could tell him all he needs to know but he needs to learn them himself and this is quite a nice time for us too...

Well,It's The Day After Thanksgiving,How are you doing?

Friday, November 26, 2010

Well, it's the day after Thanksgiving, how are you doing? I surprised myself! Of course, we were eating at home with all the fixings and no relatives--just the three of us. But I still did MEASURE my portions and limit myself to one helping{either 1 cup or 1/2 cup} of each--except one dish.
Here was our menu~~
-Herb roasted Turkey prepared by my hubby[had two slices]
-Stuffing using bread, onions, celery ,spices & 1 apple~also prepped by hubby
-Mashed Potato Casserole with melted cheese ~~I will eventually get the recipe for Sparkers from my hubby!
_Green Bean Casserole{from Sam's --didn't know it had cooked mushrms.--I only like mine raw!---so had only 1/4 cup serving }
-Pumpkin Pie ~~Prepared by me!
Though we had apple juice, I had my glasses of water.
Now we had prepared throughout the afternoon to eat @ dinnertime so I snacked for lunch.
I DID have an additional half piece of pie as I put away everything in the fridge as my hubby had gone to bed early w/ preschooler!
What was interesting to me is that I did stick to measuring & portioning my food! I guess when you've put in a long time--almost a year for me --- of working on eating better and more proportionately, it sticks in your brain & is the GOOD HABIT that I've always wanted to have ,but due to my upbringing with food & holidays, this holiday & Christmas have always been my HARDEST TO OVERCOME & I've always GAINED the pounds!
What's EVEN MORE INTERSTING to me is that I did NOT FEEL I was LACKING any food{since I tried them all} and I didn't feel stuffed either--A NEW feeling for me!:)
I'm happy to say I've not gained any and have kept the maintenance going--however, after TWO days of no exercise, my hubby , my preschooler & I are going running {our preschooler does biking on his lil'two-wheeler w/ training wheels} !!!!!!
Hope your Thanksgiving was satisfying for you ,too!!!! emoticon

We have had friends staying with us since Wednesday, and more visiting to socialize.

I have eaten tiny amounts of everything, so I didn't feel left out or deprived. Since I did all the cooking (with kitchen help) I was able to make everything as lowfat as possible, so no dishes loaded up with fat, butter, cream, etc. I passed on gravy and had only 1/2 a roll. I did have 2 slivers over two days of the fantastic pumpkin cheesecake (cooking light!).

I "spent" my extra calories on vodka and cranberry juice cocktail, which I stretched out as far as possible by the addition of LOTS of seltzer!

I ahve to admit that my plate was full but it was just a little bit of everything - and it was all so good. But my body was not use to eating that much and I was stuffed - even after running/waling 10 miles!!

Kudos to you - you are doing such an awesome job!! emoticon

I am so proud of you for maintaining so well.. I didn't actually measure but I did estimate in my head. I automatically put certain amount of food on my plate.. I did pick at the turkey and I had a glass of wine.
I need to get back to my exercise routine.. I'm up a little this last week but thats ok because I know I will loose it in a few days too..
It sounds like you had a great thanksgiving meal.. I made mine all from scratch and I even baked the pumpkin for the pie from scratch... LOL I know it wasn't all sugar.. I even had a little extra before bed..LOL once a year indulgence.. is ok..
Take care ... Ronie

I did well with my food choices yesterday too. We went to a friend's home and the supply of food was not lacking. LOL I chose mostly veggies (thankfully there were lots of those), a little turkey, dressing (made with apples and raisins), potatoes (that had cheese and bacon in them) and one roll. I did indulge in a glass of red wine (twice a year usually) and then some pie for dessert. I stuck to the pumpkin.

Today I'm hitting it hard though as the scale was up. I'm going to get this weight off and be on maintenance with you by the end of 2011. That's my goal! I'll take it in small chunks though.

Betsy, I know EXACTLY what you mean! I felt like I'd over-indulged yesterday, even though I was really trying to be careful. What JOY filled me when I logged EVERY bite and saw I was well within calorie range yesterday! SP ROCKS!!! This "healthy lifestyle" stuff is for REAL! It definitely is NOT a diet, but changes we've each chosen, to be fit and healthy for LIFE!

I gained 1/2 pound since my last weigh in Wednesday. The girls and I took a walk around the blocks yesterday ( even though we had some blowing snow) and I went to Curves today. I am back to being good today! Not to bad.
You did a great job! emoticon emoticon
