What FUN Thing Did You Do With Your Child/Children Today?{ I included Photos!}

Friday, November 19, 2010

Since I entered this "new" topic on three of my teams today, I thought I'd blog it ,too! I drew chalk pictures of ocean life, particularly whales on the garage floor with my 3 yo !!!! What is REALLY FUN FOR ME is to see him start to draw HIS OWN pictures of ocean life !!!!! He was trying to draw a humpback whale and a sperm whale! I told him he's a budding artist like his Grandma and Daddy!
In case you're wondering what the masking tape "X" is for~~ we also play "T-Ball" in the garage & I use the masking tape for showing him WHERE to put his feet in the batter's box {he's going to play T-Ball in the Spring}. I also use the tape to put the bases & numbers of the bases. We live near a park w/ a BB field and he has wanted to play since he could walk & he would watch the other kids playing Little League games! emoticon

    What fun! No kids at my house these days (until grands come over) -- I have stuff for them to make fun place card turkeys on Thanksgiving. and I purchased games for a couple friends today -- figure Christmas gifts don't have to be serious just 'cause we're grown up! Hoping to try Scrabble Flash with one of the gift recipients! Keep on having fun and building memories!

    Well I didn't do anything like that with my son..LOL looks like you had a great time.. I had all 3 of my grandchildren when they were tots and I got tired of my first cup of coffee being interupted so I bought black sheets and some paint and I had them put their hands in the paint then on the sheet... we kept washing hands and changing colors until they were completly filled with little hand prints.. I hung them in the windows... pulled the blinds and go a extra 30 minutes before the chaos of the day began.. now they are teenagers and I still have at least 1 panel left... I should make something for each of us out of it..

    I should not be admitting this but I love a chunky apple pie, warmed with vanilla bean ice cream. That is what about 4 hours on the treadmill to burn off (LOL!)

    It's the one time a year (well...other than when we have our spring "turkey feeds" with friends) that I indulge in dressing AND mashed potatoes with gravy. I'm coming to like sweet potatoe pie/casseroles very much though.

    So hard to choose ... stuffing and sweet potato casserole are at the top of the list. Love the pie, too. I have adjusted some recipes to lower fat content, and did well with portion control last year. My grandmother & then mother made wonderful cinnamon rolls, too -- some years I do them, some years not. The rolls would be the hardest thing to do portion control on ... Hubby makes the cranberry sauce from scratch -- and we've found it's just fine with Splenda instead of sugar. Daughter-in-law & her folks don't like cranberries, so we don't have to worry about "will they be OK with the splenda version".

    Oh, you can't ask me to pick just one. It is my absolute favorite meal of the year. Turkey with stuffing and gravy, mashed taters, corn, green beans, carrots, rolls, and lots of pie... mmmmm my mouth is watering. I can't wait!

Thank YOU VETERANS !!!!!

Thursday, November 11, 2010

My blog today on Veteran's Day is bittersweet~~~It marks the 26th anniversary of my mother's death . But what my mother and my father [who was a vet] taught me is the ENORMOUS RESPECT and THANKFULNESS we SHOULD HAVE and I DO for ALL our VETS that have courageously FOUGHT FOR US,OUR COUNTRY-----THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA~~~~ putting THEIR LIVES on the line so WE may ENJOY FREEDOMS that we didn't earn. I am teaching my young son the same idea---that OUR VETS need to be THANKED EVERY DAY for their selfless sacrifice in a day and age of the "entitled/entitlement" generation. I salute you ALL VETS on this day and don't be surprised if I come up to SHAKE YOUR HAND and THANK YOU IN PERSON for the gift of freedom ALWAYS COMES AT A PRICE.~~~~~ THANK YOU,VETS!!!!------Betsy
PS --I also remember my brother-in-law [who was a vet] today. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon~~Our FOUNDING FATHERS were also vets!

    Any ones that involve candy and chocolate......oh wait that's pretty much all of them :) hehehe I find halloween difficult cause they treats sit around and "call" me. So I'm going to try to be strong and stay away from them.

    Thanksgiving-as I am the cook and sample as I cook. When I try to change to healthier choices, the family members complain that I didn't cook "their" favorite. So I just end up eating less at the meal.

    Christmas is definitely the hardest for me. I love Christmas the best. Lots of friends and family and yes many types of delicious food. I never try to limit myself Christmas day and I probably won't this year either. I will limit myself on the days surrounding Christmas though. They can add up.

    Mine is definitely Christmas. From my earliest memories, I was at my grandmother's side making cookies, creating festive care packages, and going to the nursing homes and shut ins to deliver our treasures. I associate cookies with LOVE! I'm hoping and praying that I'll be moderate through all the holiday festivities.

    I did well through last year's holiday season with portion control. I think I'd have to say Christmas is harder -- just because the feasting goes on for several days (and quite a few extra parties, etc.) PLUS, it seems like our congregation thinks the BEST way to say, Merry Christmas to the office staff is by bringing goodies!! Last year I made sure I had snacks I could eat w/out guilt readily available, so I could pass up most of the gift-goodies. I didn't bake any cookies or candy last year, since we had fewer family around. But this year the grandkids will be here, so I may do a little. I'd like to do my Butter Toffee for some gift-giving --- keeping only a pinch for us. In the OLD days (when kids were home & hubby gone lots) I was known to make 20+ Dozen cookies -- and we ate them all ourselves!! No more of THAT!! I've learned to be very choosy about which treats are 'worth' a splurge. Hoping to be able to report in January that I didn't gain !!

    Halloween was easy for me because I was at a party rather than trick or treating or handing out candy, so I didn't have easy access to loads of candy. I think Thanksgiving will be hardest because I'll be sitting at a table with all that food right in front of me.
