What 20 lbs. GONE Means to Me~~[translate: Maintenance]~~~[On my 9 month SParkversary!]

Thursday, October 21, 2010

Twenty Pounds Gone means~~~
1-not having to TAKE all the photos but be willing to BE IN them!!
2-not having to scrapbook a photo of myself with a sticker COVERING MY MID-SECTION!
3-not having to wonder will the pant's zipper go ALL the way up or will I need a SAFETY PIN to secure it?
4-not having to buy DIFFERENT SIZE clothes for my top/middle/bottom parts of my body-{my mid-section giving me the MOST trouble!].
5-not having to wear dark colors MORE because " they're more slimming."
6-not having to use only HALF my wardrobe, but ALL of it [AT LAST}!
7-not having "to wish" I was THAT SIZE again!
8-not having to look at older photos and saying " I looked better then!",but I LOOK and FEEL BETTER NOW!
9-not having someone mistake me for being pregnant[it HAS happened!].
10-not having trouble breathing {this was BEFORE I had asthma!] anymore like when I was dressed in pants and was trying to zip up my boots!
11-not having to worry anymore about my additional weight adding years TO my age,but LOSS of weight DECREASING years FROM my age![Check out REAL AGE.com}
12-not having to see my weight be an ISSUE for HEART ATTACK ,but for HEALTH!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The ONLY two HURTFUL , not helpful people in my weight loss has been my older sister and oddly enough, a fellow SParker. My older sister is 6'2" and 250lbs. and just DISMISSED MY WEIGHT LOSS as"ONLY 20 lbs. so it's not a BIG thing!'
The SParker[of course,NOT a SParkfriend, incidentally ]also DISMISSED MY WEIGHT LOSS AS ONLY 20 lbs. and " you still will be struggling to keep it down with your Acai drink [which IS very good},etc."~~~her words.
~~Hey,I've LOST the WEIGHT and been MAINTAINING FOR 5 MONTHS~THAT speaks for itself!!!!!
Let me tell you,as ANYBODY who has tried to lose weight and even been a LITTLE BIT successful, the ENORMITY of losing those pounds opens up the floodgates of feelings that are positive which can JUMPSTART an exercise program which can cause a more CONSISTENT FOCUS on healthy food and A CONCENTRATED EFFORT to do it!
I say to ANY Sparker---no matter what your goal--5, 10, 100+ POUNDS, each POUND shed is a little LESS PRESSURE on your heart, your feet and your MIND!
And NO ONE has the right to DISMISS anyone else's weight loss just because she has NOT attained hers [or just to be catty!]. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Congratulations! 20lbs is quite and achievement and keeping them off for 5 months is an even greater achievement. What I hear coming from your sister and fellow Sparker is envy--they have to belittle your success to make themselves feel better. Another emotion that might be prompting their hurtful comments is that they fear losing you as a friend and confidante, now that you have achieved your goals and they are still (unsuccessfully in their minds) working on theirs. They are unhappy with themselves and it keeps them for being happy for you. I know it hurts you, but underlying all of that is that they are probably really hurting themselves, and they are letting it out on you. Kudos to you though for not letting that discourage you. You're a winner!

emoticon emoticon emoticonLike you said some people have 5 pounds to loose and some have 100. Andy everyone should be cheering on everyone else - especially here on spark people. Family - well what can I say - they can be our worst enemies!! Keep on sparking!!

Congrats on your weight loss. I am trying to lose 20 by my birthday and that seems like a huge feat to me. I need to lose more than that but 20 pounds IS a big deal. Congrats on all of that hard work. Way to go. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I wish people would stop and think about their remarks before they say them. I need to, as well, I know that. But usually the dumb things I say are just dumb, not hurtful! All a person needs to do is stop and think for a minute how they would feel if what they were going to say (or type) would feel being said to them.

I THINK YOU ARE DOING FABULOUS, and are right on emoticon(I tried to find a target but could only find this flag!)!!!

You are right on!! Congratulations on reaching YOUR goals (not someone else's) and continuing to make healthy choices! I identified with several things on your (esp. the questions about your 'pregnancy') Now I get "Is this intentional or are you sick?" Keep on Keeping on, and let the ugly words roll off ... that's more 'weight' you don't need to carry!!

    CONGRATS on the 20 lbs!!!

YIKES on the lack of support.....especially from the sparker (or so she calls herself). Just because some of us didn't get to the point of NEEDING to lose 100+ pounds doesn't mean we didn't work just as hard to get our weight off...keep up the good work, you're doing awesome for managing to keep it off for 5 months!

I Can Breathe EASIER....

Thursday, October 21, 2010

Ahhhhhhh! I can FINALLY start to breathe easier! For those of you are asthmatic as myself, you really UNDERSTAND my statement!!! I have finished with my meds for bronchitia ,and it is really starting to LEAVE my lungs! My asthma is getting under control now.
Today was the FIRST real workout day since the bronchitis started about two weeks ago! One thing i learned when you can't breathe without coughing, you really CAN"T do the workouts I used to ==running, walking, lifting weights on my Solodlex machine!
God really has me APPRECIATING my breaths--one at a time--now that I can get back to normal sleeping without being elevated with pillows!!!!
Thank You Lord for the GIFT of GOOD HEALTH!
I never seem to appreciate as much until I don't have it!!!! emoticonOne of the many blessings HE pours out in His cornucopia of good blessings on my life!

God is good! Bronchitis can be so scary -two of my girls use to get it and we had the breathing machine at home. Knew the signs to get them started on it. Have DS on allergy medicine and it really seems to help him. Heres to good health!! emoticon

Advice to Starting Sparkers ~~~The 3 Important Components That Helped Helped Me Lose The Weight!

Thursday, October 14, 2010

Commitment~~~This was NOT the hardest component for ME,but I think many people get overwhelmed and give up.It helps to have a goal/motivator in mind{mine was to be at a healthy weight by my 50 th birthday this year and living longer for myself & my family--my parents died in their 50s due to high fat diet and no daily exercise}. Also ALLOW YOURSELF ENOUGH TIME{ I had to reset my goal when necessary}.

Food~~~I measure my portions of EVERYTHING I eat and then track it EVERY DAY {unless I am sick or family ties prevent me from logging on!} .Also I feel that for me,it was important to LOOK AT my reports--- Daily Calories Burned Differential ; Calories Burned Over Time ; {those are found under Reports on the Toolbar for MY TOOLS} and the report at the bottom of the Daily Nutrition Tracker--I wanted to see if I was getting all my nutrients--particularly Folate ,as I always seemed to not get enough of it in my diet and Folate, besides helping mothers have healthy babies, also plays a VERY important role in PREVENTING HEART ATTACKS[ My resource--The Doctors Book of Food Remedies by Selene Yeager and the Editors of Prevention--Feast on Folate -p.326---an excellent book that my neighbor ,who is an ultra sound technician recommended--she knows I like reading health books lately] .

Exercise~~~MOVE EVERY DAY! [ Notice I did not say "exercise" though that's the ultimate goal for me each day!]NOTE: For those checking my shared Nutrition/Fitness Trackers, I have bronchitis and a severe hacking cough currently so I am not able to exercise every day right now.}My workouts are Strength Training one day and then Cardio the next day {jogging at least 1 mile} .==3x/wk.for Strength Training / 3x/wk. for Cardio. I try to get Abdominal work in EVERY day=5-10 min.
Note: On the days when I couldn't get in EITHER Strength Training or Cardio, I would use the DVD--Leslie Sansone's Walk Slim and would do the minimum--1 mile walking in place[ she has you mix up the moves-kicks,knee raises ,side steps, boosted walking--back and forth ] in my home. It's very easy and I CAN'T KEEP UP to their pace, but it WORKS EVERY TIME for me in keeping on the maintenance for my weight loss. I ALWAYS keep my water with me for proper hydration during the workouts and though I have trouble with 8 glasses--my usual is 4-5 a day, it IS important to have your water handy! ALSO ---I have a 3 yo so sometimes I cannot ALWAYS fit in the workouts[6x/wk --sometimes 3x or 4x instead--when I first started 1-2x /wk] as much as I 'd like--life happens--so I make do with whatever I can get in.It's IMPORTANT to NOT GET STRESSED and don't sweat it--if you are committed, measure your food & track it & workout regularly, the chances are YOU will be successful~~~It REALLY is A LIFESTYLE CHANGE,but with all changes in our lives, studies show it takes AT LEAST 3 weeks[ I'd say three months] to make these SP tools a daily habit.
GOOD LUCK~~~YOU CAN DO IT!~~~~ Give yourself ENOUGH TIME to do it !!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Then And Now---and How Sparkpeople Influenced My Food Choices

Monday, October 11, 2010

Since it is Autumn {my Favorite season} and cooler weather {also a favorite for running} , I thought I 'd list some faves....What are some of yours?
Fave-old snack choice-Oreos and cold whole milk
Fave NEW snack choice-2% Knudsen cottage cheese
Fave old dinner choice-Bacon,sausage and pepperoni pizza
Fave NEW choice for dinner- Boston Market's Turkey, Steamed veggies and sweet potato casserole[I still love sugar!]
Fave old lunch-BLT Sandwich
Fave NEW lunch-Applebee's Island Shrimp on rice w/veggies {under 550 cals. and so delicious!]
Breakfast choices have only changed out of necessity----I want to KEEP my cholestrol down to its normal level so I eat Quaker Flavored Oatmeal every day....I still LOVE eating at IHOP[all those foods they serve--pancakes, omelets, waffles,French Toast] but I control my portions[eat 1/2 and then 1/2 later] or I choose their lower cals. breakfast choices.I will make pancakes occasionally for breakfast, but I am trying to find lower cal. recipes for all the breakfast foods I like. I make it a point NEVER to skip breakfast and I wouldn't because it is my FAVORITE MEAL of the day! emoticonMAKE YOUR FOOD CHOICES COUNT!

One of my favorite breakfasts is a banana dipped in peanut butter - yum - i feel like I am being such a bad girl but I am not. It really satisfies me. Another favorite is when I make old fashioned oatmeal and add raisins,or cranraisns, or walnuts, or a chopped up apple, etc. Love it!!

Lunch is usually a nice health salad - but I usually have a desert. I love to eat so I really try hard to make smart decisions. Luckily when you eat healthy you tend to crave healthy foods!! Loved your post!!

I am using more beans and fish to get enough protein but lower the fat. Also more olive oil ( good fat) when cooking my eggs. I have always been a whole grains person. emoticon

    Let me think...hmmm
I have a hard time eating breakfast out... oatmeal and me don't agree with each other..
My old breakfast out was bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, toast with lots of coffee
Now I will get the eggs, bacon, and 1 slice of unbuttered toast.. its not the same so I'd rather not go. at home I have grapefruit eaten like a orange, banana or seasonal fruit.
lunch was a mess and now I love salads and that's my fav..
I love pizza and we still have it but I order it with light sauce and cheese.. there isn't a calorie equivalent so I just put the regular slice in knowing that in my heart its more healthy than what my tracker says..
we have lots of chicken and lean beef or pork.. I roast most of our veggies or steam them...
my salad dressing by choice is red wine vinegar... I'll drizzle a little olive oil on it if I need more fat in my diet..

oh and lots and lots of water you can't beat a water high... its something you have to feel to crave... LOL
