What is your EASIEST and HARDEST Food or Drink to OVERCOME??

Saturday, August 28, 2010

My easiest drink to overcome was soda. Though i grew up with soda "POP' --is what we called it,when I needed to lose the weight ,those calories were the first to go! The HARDEST to overcome is ICE CREAM! Though I like the frozen yogurt and substitute it regularly, the ice cream , ice cream bars are just the dessert I always liked as a kid and still do!!! What

The hardest foods for me to overcome would be pizza and cheesecake. The hardest drink would be latte's and pepsi. It was easier for me to give up the soda and the latte's then it has been for me to give up the pizza. emoticon emoticon

Easiest: Alcohol (I was surprised that it was so easy! I still have one drink every now and then, but only about once every few weeks.)

Hardest: Cheese. (I haven't given it up totally, but have to be really careful with it :)

Well, the hardest is an easy question. For me, chocolate candy is definitely the hardest substance to eat in the proper portion. Peanut butter, especially crunch PB, is probably the second hardest. Sometimes I do just fine with either or both, but if I'm hungry and tired and they are there, I have to be very, very careful. Although it has little impact on my weight, artificial sweeteners (Splenda) is hard for me to limit to the recommended amount.

The easiest good habit for me was making sure I get my 5 fruits and veggies. I usually get 10 or 11 servings. I don't think there is anything I gave up altogether to accomplish my weight goal.

Thats a good question.. This time around I went into this with stuborn determination.. so I gave up my bags of chocolate.. cookies.. crackers...and it hasn't been that hard even though those were in my daily diet.. I guess deep fried food has been the hardest.. we are huge fish n chips fans we actually rate a resturant by how well they make it..lol.. I still have it but I get a salad and only 1 pc of fish.. our fav resturant has a fish and salad plate.. just for us who are trying to eat better, even so its hard to resist all southern fried food.. the easiest I guess would have to be the first few foods I mention because I refuse to go back to that way of eating.. I had zero energy.. I felt fat and lazy because of all the empty carbs.. I was also very emotional.. I could cry at the drop of a dime.. and thats gone now too..
good blog Betsy got me thinking first thing in the morning...

EASIEST would probably have to be soda as well. I made the switch to diet 2 years ago with not much trouble. Now if i needed to stop it altogether, i don't think i'd have too much of a hard time.

My HARDEST would absolutely be potato chips. I am totally and utterly addicted to these little bites of heaven... I have always loved them and tried to cut them out of my diet more time than i can remember since a very young age. I will often have chips for breakfast, spoil a meal because i was too much in a hurry to wait for the main course to be ready, I'll even talk myself into buying it at the store, giving me excuses why i should. It's pathetic.

FL is hot down here and muggy. If you have AC stay inside, if not you and your DS go to a local pool and swim. It helps down here.

Well, my AC has been out all summer here in Texas, where it's roughly 14 degrees hotter than the surface of the sun, so my daughter and I have been spending lots of time with a double ziplock freezer bag full of ice stuffed down our shirts.

And then once we go to bed, we balance the bag on the top of our head. It's worked so far!!!

To Mom With Love~ Lessons I've Learned From You

Thursday, August 19, 2010

This blog is inspired by a blog I read about the loss of a loved one. My mom would have been 74 yesterday.~~~~
Mom, I've learned to be a good mom to my son, teaching him to eat healthy snacks--like cottage cheese, yogurt, and dried fruit as well as fresh! To try to be patient with him--though I don't have as MUCH patience as you had with me and my 4 sibs!!!
You'd be proud of me and my cake decorating skills --just like you--!! I made him a yellow submarine cake AND an arctic iceberg cake----reminiscent of the time I couldn't decide WHICH cake to have you make for my birthday--a doll cake or a square chocolate one and you made BOTH!
I well remember the OTHER creative outlets you did,too---making swan centerpieces --50 of them by hand for Dad's musician friends' party, wallpapering the bathroom, hallway, each of our bedrms.,baking ,making waste baskets by hand using rolled magazine paper-all 50 of those for the women's boutique at church. Is it any wonder I LOVE to CRAFT WITH MY HANDS?!!!
I miss you dearly, especially the ADVICE you would be able to give on raising my young son that no one CAN DUPLICATE~~~ a daughter wanting to hear from her own mother....YOU had TWO strong-willed children {I was compliant} and now I HAVE ONE!!!!
You knew how to celebrate LIFE with birthday parties or social gatherings of our neighborhood to the house for holiday luncheons, teacher appreciation luncheons,Christmas parties, graduation parties and just having moms in for coffee and A chat! Dad was always there helping you with us kids and giving advice ,too--though I didn't always listen then. Isn't that the way of kids?
Always opening our home to the neighborhood kids with an annual cookie-bake and I've started traditions in my neighborhood ,too! Maybe not ANNUAL Christmas parties and cookie-bakes,but also opening our home to the MOMs Club for Storytime,Kids' Kitchen and our playgroup dates!
You were such a GREAT MOM !!!! I am happy God gave YOU to ME and that you were such A RESOURCE for me to follow and a WONDERFUL EXAMPLE OF LOVE,especially since you didn't have a mother to raise you {die in childbirth and grandma raised her}.
I carry all those memories in my heart and lovingly scrapbook the photos of your life so that your FIRST GRANDSON can know who you were, how important you were to me and what A DIFFERENCE you made in my life! Your loving daughter, Betsy emoticon
