What I Have Learned OR had to Relearn on SP on my 6 month Sparversary!

Friday, July 23, 2010

1- I HAVE TO MEASURE MY PORTIONS of food --no matter how inconvenient --to get the calories counted properly!
2-I HAVE to track EVERY BITE TO BE SUCCESSFUL ~during my wt. loss journey & on the maintenance road!
3- WHAT I EAT affects my weight loss EVEN if I am within my caloric range {translation: NO FATTY FOODS!}
4- I HAVE to DRINK WATER {at least 2 or more glasses} with my MEALS if I want to get in ANY water intake above 4 glasses!!!
5-I CAN EAT Snacks--They just need to be HEALTHY--For me, these have worked-Reduced Fat Triscuit crackers{7}, 1/2 cup of 2% cottage cheese,1/2 cup of Light ice cream,Rainier cherries {21}, any berries-1/2 cup,Pepperidge Farm goldfish crackers {55}{I have a toddler!] EXCEPT the Cinnamon or Chocolate ones --then the whole bag is gone!
6-I have to EXERCISE in SOME form EVERY DAY--walking ,running,lifting weights,gardening,biking.
7-I have to EAT ON PURPOSE--when it comes to Folate intake--hence, the oatmeal or chocolate Cheerios or spinach or oj!
8-I also have to EAT PROTEIN on PURPOSE or I won't have enough of it in my diet!
9-To realize THIS IS A LIFESTYLE CHANGE and though my body has adapted,my mind is a little slower in GETTING USED TO IT!!!!
10-That I HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN MY WT.LOSS JOURNEY & will CONTINUE on the MAINTENANCE ROAD SUCCESSFULLY,TOO! {Believe it or not,even after 2 mos. on the "road" ,I still think the pounds will all be at my doorstep of my body "weighting" to hitch a ride if I don't do the above 9 steps EVERY DAY!!!

What have YOU LEARNED or RELEARNED on SP since you've been a Sparker????? Hope this list was helpful to one and all!!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

    Great list and so many of your insights are what I am in the process of "learning" as I continue my journey. It helps me to get it through my thick head to read through your list! Much appreciated!

    I love this Betsy.. You really gave it some thought.. I agree on weighing and measuring. I find when I need to tweek my tracker so I get enough protien a ounce here or there really adds up... some times I'm more interested in getting the balance than I am about getting the calorie thing down right.. I also feel more satisfied if I eat right..
Wow what a time we have had!! all the ups and downs.. I applaud you for getting on board and not waiting until you had 50 or 100 pounds to loose. Niping it in the bud is much easier than having to loose a LOT.. I'm still 12 to 15 pounds away from goal and its not happening anytime soon. We went camping and I put on those peskey 2 pounds I always do and then we are going on a 2 day trip next weekend so I'll be stuck in the car for most of the time. That equates to fast food.. grrrr.. Oh well then for the rest of August we should be home.. fingers crossed... I'll just continue to workout eat right and drink my water..that always takes the extra weight off..

    I applaud you for your discipline! My best way to lose weight is to stop eating when I'm full. I have the same problem as you about purposely eating protein because many times I don't get enough if I don't. Your list is SPARKTASTIC!

    I've learned many of the same things, but the doing it consistently is where it breaks down for me.

    You have sure learned a lot! I think the thing you listed is something I need to do WAY more than I have been. I bought a food scale and rarely use it; I've been eyeballing stuff. Maybe that is why I haven't been losing like I think I should. Thank you for mentioning that in your list because it jumped out at me! emoticon

Healthy Habits I Have Taught my Toddler BY EXAMPLE!!!!

Thursday, July 22, 2010

1-Eating at the table is a good place to sit down,enjoy each other's company and discuss activities.
2-Eating smaller bites is safer and chewing them is most important BEFORE swallowing!
3-Small meals throughout the day is the way to keep from getting TOO hungry!
4-Having ENOUGH water or other good-for-you drink is IMPORTANT when you are eating and WHEREVER YOU GO!!
5-Always eat something good-for you {translate: Protein}BEFORE you eat something sweet!!!
6-Choose good-for-you snacks!
7-Weighing yourself in the morning is helpful to see how you are doing!
8-Strength Training--lifting weight straps on my Soloflex machine-- is ONE way to exercise!
9-Cardio Training-running is ONE way to exercise!
10-Play,Eat,Work and Rest are all things NEEDED by our bodies!
As a result of his watching my example,my husband & I have had the DISTINCT PLEASURE of hearing our son ORDER CHOCOLATE MILK on 1 occasion and Apple Juice on another occasion for which drink he preferred at the restaurants{at the surprise of the servers since he is 2 1/2 yo!!!}----we don't drink soda or very rarely and don't have it in the house;it has rotted my brother's teeth since his young adult yrs. and he still has teeth problems to this day due to his excessive soda intake!
Our son also will eat his protein {maybe not all of it during the meal,but at least the minimum bites I request]!!!
He usually will have a bite or two of MY SNACK and hence, he LOVES fruit and some veggies,including broccoli [ with some dipping sauce--ranch dressing]!
Exercise is something fun ,usually involving running--chasing or hide and seek---I will tell him when I see all the toys are cleared from the walkway {yes, he DOES know what a walkway is !], Hey- I haven't chased you today,have I? at which point we run for a few minutes around the house taking turns chasing each other!!! That's why i log in 5 min. playing with kids=running BESIDES all the other activities!
Anyway,I just thought of this blog topic today as a wonderful ADDITION and RESULT of the hard work put into losing weight and being on this amazing site!!!
Also---as a YOU -CAN- DO- IT-POSITIVE - THINKING- HELP- FOR THE PARENTS OF PRESCHOOLERS SPARKTEAM I belong to!!!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticonAlso HAD TO ADD~~it's my emoticonSparkversary TODAY!!! I achieved goal wt. @ 4 mos. and have been at goal wt. & maintaining for 2 mos.!!!! emoticon emoticon

Why do I always feel BETTER after cleaning house?

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

But then big question----why do I only do HEAVY cleaning when entertaining?
What accomplishment or task do YOU feel BETTER about when completed? emoticon emoticon emoticon

    I like everything to be well organized.. this is how I feel calm and at ease... guess what I am rarely calm or at ease..LOL
I work on it.. if it were just me and my cat I could pretty much keep everything well organized but I love my family and I have to learn to live with orderly chaos... Take care my friend..

    I know this sounds a little extreme, but I love to move. We've never lived in a house more than 5 years...totally by choice. We just sold our house last week and closed today, 11 days later. Packing energizes me. It's amazing how much un-needed stuff we accumulate & it feels good to throw out or donate what isn't used. I love moving into the new place & organizing everything all over again! Now excuse me while I fall into bed exhausted. This is our 17th move in 37 years!!!

    A year and a half ago, my DH got transient global amnesia. He has since recovered some of his memory but not all of it. One of the things that really upset him when he came home from the hospital was the clutter of our house. Now I make sure that the main living spaces are clutter free. It is really hard but I have found that everyone in the family seems to be happier when the place looks better.

Emerging From My Chrysalis~~~I am now a Profoundly Strengthened Butterfly!

Monday, July 19, 2010

~~~This blog is dedicated to God~~My Saviour and the One Who Created ME!!~~~
How do you explain the happiness of being YOU once again ONLY in a DIFFERENT ,HEALTHIER Body to anyone who has never experienced the pain,unhappiness ,and misery of being overweight?
All I can think about today was the FEELING OF CONFIDENCE,HAPPINESS & PROUD ACCOMPLISHMENT I felt last night in going out to dinner with my hubby & toddler to California Pizza Kitchen {toddler's choice!}in a new , black , slinky tanktop & matching capri pants that made me feel like a million dollars!!!
I felt like a buttterfly emerging for the FIRST TIME out in public, given to showing off HER NEW WINGS of STRENGTH AND TONED BODY that most people DO NOT KNOW how HARD PEOPLE WORK~~through DIET,EXERCISE,LOGGING ON SP EVERY BITE! and toning those ABS every day to get to a place of exuberance like I was last night!
I felt IN CONTROL as I selected {NO PIZZA!---why would I want to do THAT? --Though it's my FAVORITE FOOD,second only to OREO COOKIES~THE SOFT ,THICK CREME ONES!!!}
tomato & basil spaghettini with chicken added {have to get my PROTEIN IN!--I'm not much of a protein eater so I have to always be aware to EAT ON PURPOSE~~another SP habit I've learned to use successfully!}and my 2 GLASSES OF WATER with lemon slices {actually became 3 as our server refilled one of my glasses}!
Now,that was my PLAN for the night~no salad only becauseevery dish is filling as is ~ if you've ever been to California Pizza Kitchen, there isn't any size I would consider small and I was right! The spaghettini was just the right amount, but then the server FORGOT the chicken, which she later added as I was almost finished and had saved the rest to eat with the chicken.She offered us a FREE DESSERT in place of forgetting the chicken[which I told my hubby~~FREE DESSERT---You KNOW I'm going to order THAT!!- We shared the excellent,most rich,dark chocolate souffle` cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream between us as our toddler had his own sundae {don't worry~~my boy does NOT have pizza every night nor sundaes,but we DO eat ICE CREAM and FROZEN YOGURT regularly!}.
I did not ask as I usually do for the calorie counter as I thought I'll log on to SP and then someone will have already have had this meal~WRONG!~ so I made adjustments,but for the future I'll KNOW....
Anyway, our toddler behaved beautifully throughout the meal and dessert, which just added to the ENJOYMENT OF THE MEAL and my hubby complimented me on my health~~TO SAY THE LEAST!~
So,I was in seventh heaven to say the least and ALL THE HARD WORK WAS WORTH IT!!!!!! I know it might not SEEM like a lot ---oh,she only lost 20 lbs.--and it only took her 4 months-- and she didn't look that overweight anyway,etc.,etc.,---HEY! Let me tell you, when you have a bad family heart history and you been CONCERNED ABOUT HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE SINCE your 20s, ANY WEIGHT LOSS IS A BLESSING and to KEEP it OFF IS ICING ON THE CAKE OF FREEDOM!!!
I am here to say SPARKERS---YOU CAN ,CAN, CAN DO IT!!!!!!! DON'T GIVE UP ON YOURSELVES OR THIS SITE!!!! It means MORE than you'll ever know! I can relive last night in my mind FOREVER!!!! AND IT WILL HAPPEN FOR YOU,TOO!!!!
~~~~I hope this blog has helped or inspired even ONE person today!!!~~~~
This newly, Profoundly STRENGHTENED BUTTERFLY is signing off~~~~Betsy emoticon emoticon
