The Tomato Story OR My First Encounter with Perimenopause !!!!

Saturday, June 19, 2010

STIMPYGRACE~~~This blog is for you and all others who have been there......

I was visiting my OLDER sister {important context for story} when we had to make a quick dinner trip to a burger place.I was asked to go in & order a meal for us {why we didn't go through the drive-thru, I don't know or there actually WASN't ONE ~~I don't remember!! } I ordered a salad for myself and a burger WITHOUT TOMATOES for my sister. I paid for the meal and got in the car. My sister checked her burger and said," There are TOMATOES on this burger. Go in and have them fix it." Now since we're BOTH adults, I should have told her to do it herself, but she was my OLDER sister{by 8 yrs!} and I was accustomed to doing what she said. I went in and said" Could you please redo this burger WITHOUT TOMATOES?" So, not watching them work on the burger, I got it back and went back to the car. She unwrapped the burger AND THERE WERE THE TOMATOES!!! So she says"There's STILL TOMATOES on it!'--Like it's MY fault?! So, I went in and YELLED AT THE TOP OF MY LUNGS----"WHAT is WITH YOU PEOPLE? I said NO TOMATOES on the burger!! This is the 3RD TIME I HAVE ASKED YOU TO FIX IT!!!CAN'T YOU HEAR ME?????" I took the burger and put it on the counter ,wondering WHOSE VOICE that was when i REALIZED IT WAS ME! Needless to say, among apologies from the staff and giving me the CORRECT BURGER, I left speechless and I had SCARED MYSELFwith my actions!! What was STRANGE was that NO ONE in the burger place had LOOKED UP to see the commotion--like it was an every day occurence! My sister, as I handed her the burger and told her what happened said," Oh,that's NORMAL in perimenopause . You'll do that ALOT!!!! " emoticonAnd that's my tomato story!!!!

I can SO relate this story. This perimenopause is really pretty scary emoticon--I work with the public so I have to watch what I say, which when I'm hormonal is pretty hard to do~ Happy to hear I'm not the only one!

I heard 'The Voice' just yesterday when I called a service provider regarding an issue that was SUPPOSED to be resolved last month. emoticon It seems the automated voice response system put me through a LOT faster with 'The Voice' emoticon

Thanks for sharing your tomato story!

Fricken' cracked me right up!!~!!! I think anyone would have been peeved, but it was 'the voice' that came out of you that had me laughing. I experienced that one with a telemarketer -- boy, I bet they were sorry they got on the other end of a telephone with me. I love your tomato story. Any woman over a certain age who can't relate just hasn't hit the right amount of hormone imbalance.

Sorry To Go,Sparkteams~~But I don't like to huddle by MYSELF nor blog, comment ALONE!

Monday, June 14, 2010

I am cleaning HOUSE~~~my own because of guests coming tomorrow! AND my Sparkteams!!Didn't want to DO it,but like UNNECESSARY pounds, I don't like taking the time to comment, blog or huddle and NO ONE is there! Now out of the ELEVEN sparkteams I left, a couple of them I left because I am really NOT a part of the group anymore and I have moved on, though their support was GREAT! I really did well when I had 5 teams & huddled with each one daily! So, I 'm down to TEN and I DO APOPOLGIZE for not huddling every day with all of my sparkteams ,but I still try when I can and YOU ALL are supportive! emoticon emoticon emoticonSparkers:Do you ever find you need to leave a sparkteam for the same reasons?

I've left teams because I just didn't understand them when I joined. Nothing in common, no common goals.

But, even with those I've kept, I cycle in and out. So, right now I'm very active in 3, pseudo active in 2 more. Next month it might be 3 others.

My dilemna now is I just found one that might challenge me, but I'm afraid to join for fear of not really "joining" in!

Yes, I've left teams for a variety of reasons - sometimes I've discovered that the team is headed in a way that I really don't want to go, sometimes I just can't connect with the team, and sometimes it's just an inactive team.
We all need to find teams that work for us. I'm on twelve now and try to huddle with each on a daily basis. I am active on three of those teams - reading all blogs, responding to a lot of them, and following the threads.
That, along with my friend feed and tracking, is a lot of Spark Time daily. i've found that I need this time to stay focused at this point in my journey.
Stay positive,
Sheila

Oh yes! I've been on SP for 3 1/2 years now and have left many teams for the same reasons. The few that I am part of are very active and supportive. Sometimes the teams can get overwhelming and I always felt like if I can't give something my attention, why do it?!

DETERMINEDJANET 6/15/2010 12:26AM

Oh yeah! Cleaning house on SP is totally necessary at different times. Most of my teams are actual "seasonal" as they follow reality shows so that allows me to really focus on the handful of year-round teams and those members/friends. I often forget to huddle (except for Cross-Stitchers...we get goodies for huddling streaks! LOL) and there are many days I can't get to the blogs I want to, but I do try to hit the Friend Feed once a day at least.

You're a GREAT Sparker and FULL of encouragement and enthusiasm. Keep it up girlfriend!!

I do agree there are only a few teams I am active on. I say there is no harm in cutting the clutter! It is important to be on teams where you are supported and can support others is similar situations.

YOU ARE AN AWSOME SPARKER!

KATIEJO5 6/14/2010 6:02PM

Yep, Betsy, I haven't joined many teams for that reason. I try to huddle and at least scan the threads and blogs on all of my teams and that takes time!

Use the teams however they work for you!

NELLIEC 6/14/2010 5:54PM

I have left some teams because basically they were pretty dead or sometimes because there is a little clique that ignores everyone else.

I tend to be a middle of the day huddler, so then I see if others have huddled before me. I think for those that huddle early, they may not realize how many huddle after them.

Oh I hear you too. And I've been on both sides of this, feeling very alone in a group with low activity and also not participating in groups that I've joined.

But I don't think there is anything wrong with leaving a group. This is supposed to be a tool, not a chore.

RONIE11 6/14/2010 5:49PM

I do this every once in awhile. Some teams just click and some don't I don't think its one size fits all type of thing. I do feel better being involved with my teams so I try to keep them at a minimum. Its more fun for me that way..

I can hardly find time to track food, fitness and read some blogs, and comment. Don't want this to be too much of a chore. emoticon emoticon

The issue with the teams for me is that I'll try to be active and feel out of place. Like, I don't want to jump in on random conversations that people have well established. Then, I also find out that what once inspired me, doesn't anymore. I will have so many things I'd LIKE to accomplish: competing in a trialthon, learning a new skill like windsurfing or rock climbing, running a 5k, geocaching, and other stuff. But when I think about all the things I'd like to do, I guess I feel overwhelmed, and for that I'll leave a team until I can come back to it. Maybe accomplish one goal at a time, and only keep up with a few teams at a time to make it more manageable. Like 2BEHEALTHYAGAIN said, sometimes less is more. I agree with that fully.

Good that you planted the seed with me too! Thank you!!!

Sometimes less is more. I have also done the same thing. Sometimes there is just nothing going on in a group and I am not getting anything out of it, sometimes it's not really what I was looking for, or sometimes it's because my goals and/or needs have changed.

I don't work ourside the home, but still find it difficult to catch up with Sparking, and it's usually the teams and especially the blog-reading that suffers the most.

Take care and don't forget to count that house-cleaning in your fitness minutes!

P.S. I wanted to add that I went to the store and got some oatmeal after your Cholesterol number blog and not only have I started eating it for breakfast, so has my husband! You DO make a difference!!
