Need Your Help,Sparkers! What do YOU do on VACATION?~~Tips That HELP KEEP CALORIES UNDER CONTROL!!

Thursday, June 03, 2010

Do YOU do something while on vacation that HELPS you stay within your caloric range? Do you LOG In & track your food on the Nutrtion Tracker? { I'm NOT KIDDING!}. Now that I'm at a healthy weight that took me four months of HARD WORK~~~ this is the TEST~~Vacation ing and EATING at unfamiliar places and knowing my PENCHANT for indulging !!! My hubby & son will be with me ,so I know he'll be helpful in helping ME watch my portions and intake of sweets....but it occurred to me to ask FOR YOUR HELP because some of you have been there.... WHAT helps YOU when on vacation to keep track of your calories? Do you drink MORE water?HELP~~~ emoticon
Note: We DO have access to a computer and a weight room and a pool. But I'm MOST INTERESTED in tracking calorie pointers.....

Since I'm currently on vacation, I can speak from experience. Internet is spotty in the national parks, but I.ve tried to eat healthy. Took dried fruit and veggies with me in an ice chest. Since I've only had Internet some of the time, I haven't been able to track food. It' driving me crazy. Also difficult is mom and pop resturants are hard to calculate. Drink lots of water, it helps.

I do track if I have online access. I try to research different restaurants in the area I'm going to be in and have a plan when I go out. I try to carry snacks with me.

Our vacations are always very active. I try to listen to my body and eat only enough that I don't feel hungry. rather than get an ice cream i take a bite or 2 of the one of the boys. Usually a bite is enough that I don't feel left out. I try to look up restraunt menus to plan ahead what I will eat.

Most important ENJOY vacation! Stay active! Have a great time!

My husband started taking us on mini vacations the first full month I started on spark people and I have found for convienance that the cut up fruit and veggie trays at the store are fast and easy. If I had time to plan I could do my own and it would be a little less money.. Take lots of bottled water staying hydrated is important. You'll have more energy. We have stayed at places that offer gyms and I always have great intentions to go in and work out but I never do. I also don't have a internet plug for my laptop so even if wi-fi is available my computer isn't set up for it.. (note to self- work on this) lol When I eat breakfast out I get fruit or a veggie omlet (with out the potatoes), and multigrain toast.
Lunch a salad I love a large salad that has a chicken breast with it. I only use red vinegar for my dressing..
And if I have gotten lots of exercise I pretty much eat what I want for dinner... I love sea food and unless its deep fried its very low in calories.. my downfall is the bread and tatters or pasta... if you do some research on what your fav foods are you can have an idea of what will keep you in range..
Most important!!!!! HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!! If you gain a few you will loose it when you get home..

I don't log in and track online, but I do keep track in a little notebook. After 4 months, you do have a good idea of calorie ranges. I focus on fresh fruits and salads- yum! And if there is something I really want- I have it!

I also get lots of activity- walking, swimming, hiking, biking. Whatever there is to do that is fun- I don't hit the fitness room. I keep track of those minutes in my notebook as well.

I have actually lost weight on vacations doing these things. But my goal is to maintain and enjoy! I am not obsessed with food and exercise, just don't want to have to work off a lot of food I didn't really enjoy that much!

Have a great vacation!

First thing i would do is go to a place that sells salads to go subway is one and buy fatfree dressing in packets id get about 10 @ 40 cents each and caring them where they don't have fat free dressing like bob evans! That alone will save you 100s of calories over a few days! Then get on the computer and put in nutritional infor for----- each restraunt you think you will stop at figure out something i got that in my group list! Eat at least 1 salad a day the lunch size! You plan ahead you will be ok. Bob Evans is a great place to eat and stay healthy with the food. Take your own snacks in 100 calorie packs or make up 100 calorie packs good luck! emoticon

Keep busy busy busy - move around a lot - that way if you over indulge a little - you will burn it up. And always load up on vegtables, fruit, and water first - you won't be so hungry for all the bad stuff!! HAVE A GREAT VACATION!!

I'm a bit obsessive, so I still track on vacation. But, I will write it down in a notebook until I can get time to log on and enter it all. The point is to have fun and enjoy yourself, so relax and do what you can. You will do well, I know!

I use the "plate method". Fill half of your plate with vegetables, or one-quarter vegetables and one-quarter fruit, and one-quarter protein, such as meat, fish, or beans, and the other quarter with carbohydrates, such as potato, rice or bread.

Eat fruit, veggies, yogurt or granola bars inbetween meals.

This way you don't have to take time away to track your meals and can enjoy more time with your camping companions.

I tend to eat more but also workout more. Just keep track, have fun, don't go to extremes and you'll be fine. It's all about balance.

Mobile app is great BTW!

~~That PRICELESS word~~~~LOVE,THANK YOU,HELP!~What's Yours?

Wednesday, June 02, 2010

I was just thinking today about how uplifted{or downtrodden!} ONE WORD can be to us....I am so fortunate as to having had WONDERFUL PARENTS that taught me the VALUE of COMPLIMENTS and EMPATHIZING with others. It does not COST us ANYTHING but our TIME and the use of our vocal cords! It can MEAN SO MUCH to the person who HEARS it!

I think ,for me,now that I've written the blog and had time to think~KINDNESS~ is the word for me.When people show their KINDNESS, it is really GOD'S LOVE coming through in human form.

What word [or words,as it is hard sometimes to focus on a single word] is IMPORTANT or HOLDS MEANING for YOU? emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I believe edification is my word. When we build each other up, we're showing God's love. I think that is why I like blogging and reading other's blogs because we encourage each other in our journey. We help each other and lift each other up. Kindness is shown through each other's words and actions. emoticon

I'm not sure what specific work would hold a special meaning to me but I do know that holding my tongue has been a long hard lesson for me... so I would say that NOT saying harsh words is just as important... I use to go OFF on anyone who was in my way when I was in a MOOD and I have seen very ugly fat women in their worst moods go off on people and have seen myself in them... so now I try to just look or turn the other way... I am much happier this way.

Blogging Can Start Your day out RIGHT!

Tuesday, June 01, 2010

I LOVE to scrapbook, but I never thought I'd LIKE BLOGGING!!! In fact, it IS a form of scrapping your wt. loss journey through journaling your thoughts and what was/is going through your mind during this process. I must admit I have journaled only extensively when the situation warranted that I wanted to KNOW my THOUGHTS back when....I was engaged to be married{journaled a WHOLE YEAR!} and when our firstborn son was a baby and now toddler{2 WHOLE YEARS!!!--though NOT every day[the second year...}. I guess that's why I get disappointed when I join teams that have members that don't blog hardly at all.....I like to know what OTHERS are thinking and DOING on their wt. loss journeys....what works for them, what doesn't and how they're feeling....I ALWAYS go back at the end of the day to see the comments and I apologize if you comment and I don't get back to you....I must admit it's FUN to read and LOL or sympathize....I feel it starts my DAY OUT RIGHT!!! What Are YOUR thoughts-- Do you like to blog? or just comment? or BOTH? emoticon emoticon

When I first started blogging, I didn't think I would like it. But it is a good way to get thoughts organized and get some feedback from others.

I don't do it everyday, but periodically when something has been going around in my mind.

I also enjoy commenting when I actually have something to say.

I started journaling when I was 10 years old. It's priceless to be able to read back to see what was important to me then, what I thought about and how I thought about it as a child, events I've almost forgotten about, how I have grown over the years. I wouldn't want to miss out on this stage of my life by letting it happen and forgetting where my feet have been...

Blogging has been very useful for

1. Reading backwards and encouraging myself
2. Making new friends whom I'm learning to love day by day
3. Seeing God's faithfulness every step of this journey
4. Getting my thoughts out where I can process and gain
perspective
5. Gaining Spark points (why not??) emoticon

Thanks for sharing this. ~Susan

I never thought I would enjoy blogging because I don't even journal...but I find it so motivational to read SP comments and encouragement, and to comment on their blogs to keep each other motivated and give each other tips. I prefer blogs but also get tips and encouragement on message boards and like to post, too. emoticon

As you well know I too love to blog. I never would of thought it but I do,, I blog nearly everyday. I have a very active family so we are on the go a lot and on those days I don't get to it.. I find I try to put an upbeat spin to my blogs and that helps with my mood and outlook for the whole day.
I am learning that not all teams are really teams at all. I'm sure they started off with good intentions but personally I only have 2 that are active. I need a team that includes me in everything going on or I will put all my focus on a team that will do that. I am so happy with the challenges and the new sparkfriends that I have made and so very disapointed in the teams that seem to be about a certain subject and then NOTHING is ever heard from that team again. I guess thats just the way it goes.. I really would like to learn some things in some of the teams I have joined but sometimes that just doesn't happen.. Thats ok.. I have enough on my plate so to speak that I don't need to be on this site for 8 hours a day anyway... LOL

You are right Betsy - this is one of the best teams on Spark People - there is so much inter reacting going on. I just dropped out of about 6 teams because I was not getting anything out of them. And you deserved to be Mommy of the Week. emoticon

Thanks for the great blog, Betsy! This is the spark team that I feel the most connected to. Probably because what we have in common is so dear to us all.

Maybe the connection we weren't really aware of, is that many of us are raising young children while dealing with perimenopause!! haha!

emoticonWow...I can't express how amazed and blessed I feel after reading this post. This team has made all the difference in the world to me. too. Suetinge was the first person who reached out to me and you don't forget. I started this team as a stay-at-home Mom, ventured into the work world to a job that I hated that eventually laid me off and you are all supporting me as I search for that needle in the haystack..my dream job, all the while as you struggle as well. Thanks for writing this blog. I am so thankful for YOU!

Couldn't have said it better myself! emoticon

This team is why I've been active on Spark without giving up this time. I joined in 2006 but until this attempt (starting in March) I've never stuck with it. For the first time in YEARS (before my oldest son was born) I am under 200. That one almost made me cry. Maybe I'm perimenopausal too emoticon

Anyway, thanks fellow LIL Mommies and especially to our sparkleaders for being such a great team! emoticon
