Are You Eating HEALTHFULLY?

I'm writing this blog and I can't say that I REALLY have been for the last TWO months! I'm eating HEALTHIER than I used to and for me,for the time being, that has to suffice! I had an AWFUL fall on my bike 4 days ago and what prompted me to write this blog today is that when I looked at my badly bruised {but not BROKEN--_PRAISE GOD!}leg, I remembered a book I had used extensively when I first got married {was more active and played community and church softball teams so I was always nursing an injury--I play TOUGH!=translate= I slide ALOT on the basepaths!}. It's calledPrescription for NUTRITIONAL HEALING by Phyllis BALCH,M.D. and it has helped me TREMENDOUSLY!!! Right now,I'm going to post a "secret" about eating HEALTHFULLY to help your BODY HEAL ITSELF!!!A sneak peek- it has to do with pineapple,chicken,soybeans,dark green leafy veggies & fruits.... but isn't this a GOOD question to put to ourselves DAILY?     You are so right! (Glad you're noticing the difference too with your injury.) I've been working very hard to offer much healthier options around here and have been getting grief for it and I don't care anymore. LOL One thing I do have to stay away from is soy due to food allergies. Have you used Kale at all? Is it bitter?

Yes,I agree about eating more healthy..what with fruits more reasonable now and fresh veggies from the markets..we have these in N.J. all year around. Love my salads! emoticontoday with salmon instead of potato salad I offered to make.

    I agree with you I am eating healthier than I use too but I may not be quite there as far as eating as healthy as I should. I'm sorry I didn't get back to you about your fall I was wondering how its coming.. and just forgot to ask.. I hope you heal very soon..
I try to cut out all chemicals in our food but that's not always possible. I'm a busy mom and wife and the truth is convenient food is sometimes the only way to get meals ready. I do incorporate fresh veggies and fruit into our daily lives. I have cut back on the amount of meat we eat at each meal but then again I know I could do better.
This was a great question it has me thinking.. Don't you feel you have come such a long way in 4 months.. I have learned so much and have changed the way I live so much it boggles my mind. My poor family is just trying to keep up lol

I thought it appropriate {and an easy one to do, even though it's OBVIOUS} to congratulate EVERY SPARKMEMBER on joining!!! This might seem like --"A SECRET?"--How is that a secret? "Well, let me tell you this program has such helpful People,Data,Teams.Sparkgoodies aka Morale-builders,etc. that I believe there is NO OTHER PROGRAM that comes close to what we achieve in the TIME we do!!! If you had told me, in FOUR MONTHS TIME, you will down 19.4 lbs.{ will make 20lb. loss,and eventually goal wt.. but just having to GET IN the caloric range like MOST of the time and I'm NOT!}, your CHOLESTROL will go down 47 pts., your BASAL METABOLIC RATE will increase to 1818 cal. and you'll cry with happiness at finally realizing YOU CAN OVERCOME your family's history of being overweight, I WOULD HAVE SAID--What pill do you think I'm going to have to take because I don't take pills--except vitamins!!!     I agree and leave it to you to congratulate all of us for joining.. You are such an inspiration! I'm so happy for your success. I love that its free because I wasn't about to pay for it.. I pay a ton for the internet service alone I don't need to pay anymore... LOL
I think the sparkpeople store is has very reasonable prices and its a great way to support the site. I have gotten several things there and am very pleased.
Keep up the good work and from the looks of you new pictures you must be very close to your goal weight... you look great.

Yesterday we were 2/3 of the way home from our almost 11 mile bike ride, when we were crossing at a roadway that only had yellow lights--after my hubby took our toddler across in the bike trailer, I looked both ways and proceeded to go and noticed as I was almost across , a light blue van bearing down on me,not slowing down,so I sped up { i had the right-of-way but as any native Californian knows the motorists are as bad here as the Europeans,well,not quite ,but close!--and I LIVE here!-and AM a native Californian!--Anyway,as it is a bike trail but also can get cars access,the gate to the car access is WIDE;the bike access is NARROW and you ALWAYS SLOW DOWN going through them,well,I was going too fast due to the motorist and hit the gate and have a HUGE bruised and skinned rt. thigh And bruised body. THANK GOD for my BIKE HELMET as the idiots --and that is being NICE- who designed the trail where I live have used ROCKS AND CEMENT to incorporate many of the rocks in formations on the side of the trail and I hit the back of my HEAD as I fell!!!Well, this is where once you have FALLEN,make a decision....Do I get back UP or give UP??? As I was able to get BACK UP and walk slowly around to check the damage to my body and then stop to see my vision is clear & my head's ok, I told my hubby[ after some ranting at the motorist and the city officials who put ridiculous and DANGEROUS formations for AESTHETICS,not SAFETY!!] I was ok and we needed to GO ON as I knew my thigh would throb painfully later as it only stung right now--ANY TIME you get injured, ICE for FIRST 48 HOURS to get the SWELLING DOWN and then heat used AFTER the first 48 hours!!
As I rode home, I thought ISN'T LIFE THAT WAY??? We can bemoan the fact of whatever happens to us as IT'S NOT FAIR and I'm going to have a CHIP on MY SHOULDER the rest of my life OR I can get up AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT MY SITUATION!!!!

    I'm so glad you are ok! That is very scary, You seem to have a great attitude about it. I too would of ranted and raved probably not till I got home and then it would all come out.. although I have never ridden or walked 11 miles. Thats impressive to say the least. What a mixed bag of emotions.. You must be wiped out today.. I'm sorry for your accident and so glad your ok.

Yesterday @ the gym I've been going to for 11 yrs. {but only saw ACHIEVEMENT w/SP THIS year-the last 4 mos.!!}, I was passing the OWNER at the check-in desk as I was going out and she commented,"Betsy,you're getting so thin!!" Now I AM eating more healthfully and exercising more,but to hear the comment from HER was such a thrill~~~and it really BRIGHTENED MY DAY!!! Do someone a kindness~~through word or deed today ~~~Pay the compliment forward~~and in addition to BRIGHTENING SOMEONE ELSE'S DAY ,you do YOURSELF a FAVOR of POSITIVE THINKING~~Which is as healthy as the rest of our healthy choices~food, exercise,laughter,fun activities~! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

    I love this blog, just a few weeks ago at the grocery store for 2 days in a row I was behind a women that I worked out with several times last year she looks the same. I know because we talked about it that she really wants to loose about 20 pounds. The first time I wanted to tell her about SparkPeople but I didn't feel like I should say anything unless she did.. the second time I said this is dejavue and we all laughed but still no 'in ' to talk any further.. I need to carry my spark cards with me so I can hand them out. I want everyone I know who is where I am with my weight that there is this site that is amazing.. Its funny because the 2 of us worked out everyday with very little results.. its because we had know idea how many calories are in the food we eat..I think thats why its working this time..
