Week One Rap-up

So I made it through one week - a couple of backward steps, but all in all it was a good week. I do need to try to figure out how to lower my sodium intake and up my copper. I don't eat salty snacks, but I was amazed at how much sodium I get. I don't add salt to anything either, but it is in so many healthy foods - feta cheese is a big culprit. I also noticed that many breads are high in sodium, too. Not sure what to do about copper.

I did my weekly weigh-in and was pleasantly surprised with a few pounds lost and an inch or two from my waste, thighs and hips. YEAH!

Now for week 2 - bump it up a notch. My goal is to get rid of the sodium and to start strength training. Because of all of the snow shoveling, I did not have time for dedicated training, but got lots of exercise anyway.

OK - So much has happened since I last posted. The school I was workingin closed, so back to the stress eating. And then I got job in a different school - so back to the cupcakes. I really want to get back on track. First I am going to try to keep track of my food on SP and then I have to try to find time to exercise. I think I will try to use my Wii fit, but I never seem to find enough time in the day. Between lesson plans, shlepping my daughter around and trying to get the housework done, the day is over before I know it. I'm gonna try to squeeze in 20 minutes a day, so we will have to see how that goes. Baby steps I guess.....

    Absolutely baby steps! Take on one thing at a time and slowly add to your routine. Start with just logging your food, get an idea of what you are doing well and what needs to change. Someone once told me the only step that is important is the very next one that you must take. Good luck on your journey!

Well, my last blog was a lie. I didn't even get close to getting back into shape last year. In fact, I put on more weight. But I am really going to try this time. I just finished up my college course, so I should have more time to dedicate to my exercise routine. I do have to be aware of my stress eating. I started my Sparkpeople plan on Monday, and so far I've been doing pretty good. I think I need a Spark Buddy to keep me going. When I lost the weight before, I had a group of friends here with me doing the same so we supported each other. Unfortunately, I don't see them much anymore since their children began to drive.

Well, all that work last year down the drain. After we got back from Germany in August last year I found out that I had a teaching job starting in September. It kept me so busy I didn't have time to exercise and all of those donuts and cupcakes that the kids brought in.....I just couldn't say no.

So, I'm starting over again. Hopefully this time I will keep it off. I've added additional Turbo Jam workouts to my regime including the strength training. Hopefully by September I can at least get into my old clothes so I have something to wear for work.

    Good for you getting back into it! It can be so difficult! I keep refinding the same 20 to 30 lbs. However, I started a plan 3 months ago and have lost 18lbs. I'd like to lose 11 more. I have TurboJam but have only used it a couple of times. How do you like it?

I have so many changes happening in the Fall that i am both excited and scared at the same time. Being a full time teacher has been my dream, but I need to build up my confidence that I am a capable person. I'm also afraid that I might fall back into my old eating habits and gain the weight I worked so hard to lose. I think I really need to organize and plan (making sure I bring a healthy lunch instead of eating in the cafeteria or take-out and getting up early enough in the AM to workout before school).

I'm up for new challenges that SP will have for us in the Fall and I'm hoping to finish that goal box and use it finally in September! (It's still sitting on a shelf waiting to be decorated.

Once I get myself settled in school, I am going to start my Masters program (Probably sometime in October). I am hoping I can handle all of these challenges as well.

    Congratulations on your education journey! I was older when I finally "did it" - similarly went back parttime to finish my undergraduate (1989-92) and my MBA (1993-94) after quitting college in 1969! It's a wonderful feeling of accomplishment.

Keep your goals close at hand - and give YOURSELF the time necessary to stay healthy.

    Of course you are going to meet your goal; we fellow campers will make sure you stay on track! If you ever feel unmotivated or reach for that donut or ice cream (pick your poison:)), just post in the forum or e-mail me! You are less than 4 pounds away; DO NOT GIVE UP!!!
