It has been FOREVER since I blogged about anything, so I figured I would write a little update. I found a gym since my last blog it is awesome and has a lot of variety and the people staff and other members are supportive and friendly. Just today someone I don't even know came up and said " I just want to tell you that you look awesome your body has changed so much since you started here" WOW that made my day, since I have hit a weight loss plateau for the past 4 months. I lose the same 2-3 pounds and they come right back. BUT I feel and see definition in muscles I never knew I had. I would still like to see 150 sometime but it will come in due time. My doctor who is also a personal trainer advised me at my last check up to look into getting my excess skin removed and that would be 10-15 pounds but that is EXPENSIVE!! It makes me angry angry that insurance won't cover it but would've covered all meds and doctors fees associated with being overweight...smh!
I'm not on the main site much, I'm usually on the mobile app, which doesnt have as many features as the main site. But I so want to wish EVERY one of my friends and fellow sparkies much success and never forget anything is possible. emoticon

Great to hear from you, and yeah, that is super nasty that they would not cover something that reflects such a healthy goal.

Wow, i knew expensive is the right term, but that borders on ridiculous. That extra skin is one concern of mine, but i will take that over the alternative any day.

Thank You and the total for all the work I need done is nearly $22,000. That includes removing the excess skin from my abdomen, arms, and inner thighs plus lifting the "girls" up. It's crazy that it costs that much, it makes me mad too because I have killer bi's and tri's that have loose skin hanging from them and the rest of my body would look so much better if I could get the skin removed.Guess I better start saving now!

I am just curious, how much is that do you know? That is awesome too by the way. You may keep playing with that 1-2 pounds, but you do look amazing.

No Gym :(

Wednesday, January 09, 2013

I have belonged to the same gym my entire weight loss journey ( 1 year). I became very close to the staff and other members. That is why it broke my heart when they announced they would no longer offer childcare! So my membership there is over and for 2 weeks I have been evaluating other gyms and NONE of them are to my liking :( Either the staff and members are rude, or the classes offered arent challenging. I dont know what to do? I have considered ordering Jillians Body Revolution or Insanity and sticking to my running routine, but then I fear I will lose muscle because I dont own any heavy weights or kettlebells that I usually work with
at the gym. Has anyone else quit the gym and worked out at home with success? I still need to lose 25 more pounds before I reach goal. Does anyone know if you can buy a body fat calculator like the ones the gym has (where you squeeze the handles?) Any thoughts/opinions would be greatly appreciated!

The same thing happened to me recently - the all women's small gym I worked out at closed down and I didn't like any of the gyms around the area - and there were a lot! I tried the YMCA, but didn't like the classes they offered or the instructors (and I went to more than 3 YMCAs in the area). Now I'm part of the park district gym. It's not really the same as my small gym where everyone knew my name. I miss the intimacy a lot, but it's not horrible. I know you said you tried a lot of gyms around the area - do you guys have park district gyms or YMCAs that you can try?

If it's in the budget you can also hire a trainer for once per week or every two weeks to come to your house and train you. That should help with keeping going at home.

I have to have a gym with child care...How rude.
I do have some free weights that I use occasionally at home. I am sure there are some strength training dvds out there

I started at the gym and lost 20 lbs. and then I relocated and could no longer go to the gym. I ordered Insanity and in less time then I spent going to the gym, I lost 50 lbs. Even without heavy weights you still can still do plyometrics. Believe me, they work.

You can always give working out at home a try for a few weeks or months and see how it goes and rejoin the gym if you want to.

Can you trade childcare with a friend who also wants to work out? Or perhaps hire a sitter between you so you could both work out? Could you get the names of the sitter(s) from the gym? Then you could go to the gym or work out on your own. You also might want to see if there is a tot drop in town where you could take your child (ren). See if the local churches or park and rec offer it. Perhaps there is a neighbor who wouldn't mind playing with your child while you worked out in exchange for something you could do for her. I worked out consistently on my own when I had little ones and had a rower and an indoor exercise cycle in my home. Also a step and great videos from Collage Videos. When they were a bit older, one rode his bike while I walked with the other in a stroller. Kept me sane and in shape. One thing for sure, being flexible, determined and being able to problem-solve helps when you have others to care for. Good luck!!

You can definitely workout at home and still lose weight. There are stores such as Target which have kettleballs and handweights. Just makes sure to switch up your routine.

48 inches and 120 pounds in one year!

Thursday, December 13, 2012

WOW, What a year it has been! I would never have imagined I would make it this far on my fitness journey..honestly I expected myself to give up by now. That was the normal cycle I would go through start a program, stop a program, lose some, gain A LOT back. But spark people and my trainer really just worked for me. I also had a better support system which made it easier too. And I guess I just reached that breaking point where enough was enough. ANYONE CAN DO THIS, NEVER LOSE HOPE ON YOUR SELF IT CAN BE DONE. HARD WORK AND DEDICATION WILL PAY OFF!

Thank you for adding me as a friend! I must say your story gives me hope; I had gotten to the point where enough is enough at the end of the year. On January 2nd, I told myself that this was the year! I am glad to hear that sticking to Sparkpeople's guidelines worked for you, because that was a question I posted a couple of weeks ago. I never got a cut and dry answer, but now I know. I have been sticking to the plan with little exercise and am down 14lbs. for the month; 96 more to go! I purchased Jillian Michaels 30 day shred and will probably start it this week.....I also realized at the end of the year, that this was not about going on a diet.............it would be a lifestyle change, because I am never going back to my old ways........Life is too short!

Thank you for being so inspiring!

Thank You! I did stay within the calorie range they gave me mostly everyday, I had bad days here and there, I once ate half a pizza,a milky way,and drank a Dr.Pepper because I was so frustrated with a plateau I hit, and amazingly 3 days later dropped 3 pounds LOL go figure. I typically eat 4-5 times per day. I start with breakfast usually eggs and fruit, then I have my post work out protein shake, lunch is usually a salad, or tuna, something with protein and veggies and healthy fats, then I have dinner protein and veggies. sometimes I snack between lunch and dinner usually almonds or fruit, and i may have a serving of peanut butter before bed.
I just go by the amount of calories SP recommends for my activity level and it does increase as our activity level does. Hope this helps and Good Luck on your journey!

Halloween pics from last year vs this year

Wednesday, October 31, 2012

Its hard to believe that one year ago I weighed 297 pounds and was getting short of breath taking my daughter trick or treating! This year was so much easier! I wore my pedometer and we walked 2 miles, no shortness of breath emoticon
Little things like this remind me of why I chose to change my life and I am so glad I did. I only ate 5 treats tonight vs last year I had one or two HANDFULS of candy from my daughter! Hope everyone had a great Halloween!

110 pounds gone with pics!

Wednesday, October 17, 2012

Another month down and another 10 pounds with it! I really hope I can continue at this pace, and reach my goal before my birthday 2-5-2013 emoticon I attended service tonight at a church I had not been to in over a year and everyone asked where the other half of me was! So many great compliments lit up my night. One member in particular was very interested in how I done it and I mentioned SP and exercise. I let her know just like everyone else SHE can do it, just stay positive and never lose site of the goal. Many changes are life changes but I promise it is so worth it to feel this good!
