I'm hiding the scales!

Sunday, January 26, 2014

I know tomorrow is weigh-in day but I'm not going to be making an update. I'm hiding the scales as of this moment and focusing on my healthy eating and fitness. The pounds WILL come off, no doubt about it. The past three weeks I've been stressed and obsessed with the number not going down at all. I've been stuck at 199 point something for most of January and it really just defies logic because I'm putting in the workouts and I'm eating the right foods at the right time and the right amounts... so no more looking at the scale! Knowing what the scale says doesn't change anything.. except maybe give me doubt when it doesn't move and that's not healthy. I know I'll push harder if I eliminate the stress of weigh-ins. Thanks for the support everyone!! It's only day 83 and I have lost 28 pounds and went from a size 20 to a size 14... that's success! I'll give a weight update in two months... surely I will not be 199 pounds in eight weeks. ;) 03-26-2014 is my next weigh-in day!

Good luck to you with your new plan . . . . spark has a three part article called "Plateau Busters", you might try reading that to see if there are any ideas in there that might help. Great job on the weight loss so far! emoticon

I think that's a great idea! I think I need to do the same. I think when you put in a whole bunch of work and eat the right stuff and do the right workouts and don't see the number change it makes you want to throw in the towel! It can make all your hard work seem worthless. So hide the scales and focus on the pant-fit-factor. Judge your progress by how well your pants fit :) emoticon

I recently bought a scale that measures body fat % because the scale was going up when I knew I was tracking and working out. Even though I was feeling great and doing better in the gym, it was just too demoralizing to see that number go up every week.

I no longer weigh at home. The number can frustrate me into overeating especially if I've done everything in my power to lose weight. You have a great plan. I weigh once a week at WW and that is enough.

Weigh-In Day Results!!

I was really hoping to have made it to the one hundreds this week... I was so close!!! Life happened this week though... stress, stress, more stress = eat, eat, and eat! I haven't had access to the internet to keep up with Spark and I haven't had time to workout or cook my healthy meals at home so unfortunately my vegan diet went out the window this week as well. Oh well... these unexpected moments happen and you're not a failure until you give up and I'm definitely not giving up!

Weight loss = None
Weight gain = 2 pounds

Puts me at 204 pounds and I have confidence that I will see the 100s on the scale in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for all the cheers!

I found my old report on Spark People from my 2010 weight loss!

It's awesome to see it on a graph.

I weighed in at 213 pounds on 01/01/10 and my last tracked weigh in was 159 pounds on 5/25/10 but I continued to lose another 5 pounds the next month before I basically gave up and started regaining.

Not this time! This time is for good... and I'm going for 140 pounds! Which is 9 pounds less than the high end of healthy weight for my height. I'm 5"5'.

Healthy for me is between 110-149 pounds. Once I hit 179 pounds I will be in the overweight category and out of the obesity category!

I made a time frame schedule for each weight goal and I already completed the first one!!!

I'm here to lose this weight and be healthy..

I'm not trying, I'm doing!

Hi everyone!

If you aren't in one of my groups.. you might have thought I disappeared for awhile. Haha. I assure you that I have not and I'm not planning on going anywhere either. :)

I've been keeping pretty busy with all the holiday challenges going around on Spark and my two girls that keep me on my toes (Ages 1 & 6). Can I count my husband too? j/k

Tomorrow marks ONE MONTH since my return to Spark People. My, my my.. how so much has changed! First off I'm down about 13 pounds!!! Woo-Hoo. I love pulling those big numbers in the first month... it gives you such a boost in the right direction. Secondly, my health venture is on a road I've never been on before!

I started back on Spark People to lose weight. Yes, I could say I wanted to be healthier and that was more important but... not really. I wanted to look better and not be the fattest person in the room anymore.

BUT... that is definitely no longer the issue. The more time I spent on Spark browsing articles and actually reading them instead of snagging some points (you know you've done it!)... a shift began in my mind. I started becoming more aware of this not being about just eating 1200-1500 calories but making those 1200-1500 calories count. I did research, I read articles, I watched documentaries about processed foods and the meat and dairy industry. I couldn't believe the change that was happening!

I pushed back the Lean Pockets, the Lean Cuisine, and the like and made the decision to become Vegan (whole foods, plant based diet). No Dairy!

I've been at it a week now and feel so much better!

I'm still navigating my way through this Vegan thing but I'm excited that I took the leap.

My family is enjoying the changes too. I no longer buy DIET foods and I rarely buy processed foods. Currently, I'm still buying hummus and my fave Boca Burgers but I hope to start making my own Hummus and Veggie Burgers soon. I want the ingredients in our diets to be as simplistic as they can be. No chemicals, hormones, additives and whatever else is on the labels that have unpronounceable names.

Since the change... we have discovered SILK ALMOND MILK and it's fantastic! The kids love it and even hubby is coming around to it as well.

Hope everyone is doing well with their weight loss journey!

I can recommend 2 super vegan books for you: the Happy Herbivore and the 30 Day Vegan Challenge. They are 2 of my very favorite transition books for going vegan. I'm sure you've heard of Engine 2 as well, but seriously, 30 Day Vegan Challenge is a great handbook.

You will love going vegan. It's so much flavorful and you really "taste" the food. Your body will feel so clean and pollution free, and the fresh foods and herbs are great too for flavor.

Veganomicon is also good, but the recipes are a bit higher in fat and salt.

Have fun!
