The final race of 2012... bittersweet. It wasn't the most organized race, but it was for a good cause. The cause was in support of rescue greyhound dogs. They told us at the start that they didn't get the medals in time, and they had to use left over medals from 2 years ago.. but if we wanted the proper ones we would have to put our names down for new ones.. Yes of course I want the correct medal, thank you!!!!!
The weather was perfect, the route was along the river, the trees were all beautiful in fall colors, it looked so amazing, that part was great. It was wonderful to be able to run with my husband to celebrate our anniversary! They only had 3 water stations for the whole course, thank goodness we had our water belts! But still could have used more. My poor husband was battling a cold for the last few weeks which then turned into bronchitis, so I could hear him hacking and coughing up phlem, several times he urged me to just go and take off, but I wasn't there to run my all time personal best, it was a run to do something we enjoyed, to run for our anniversary... so by his side I stayed... we even took walking breaks which NEVER happens when we run.... oh and of course my watch didn't charge properly so it died, I had no clue what pace we were running at or how long we taking, my guess was 2:11-2:18, but I didn't care... just kept following Eddie's lead, I felt so bad for him, he said he couldn't breathe. I was looking forward to the chocolate milk at the finish line........ We grabbed hands and cross the finish line, I was surprised we finished at 2:06! So I am very proud of that time, my hubby did great considering how he was feeling, and it wasn't about the end time.... AND at the finish line there was no chocolate milk :( They had the finish line at a local landmark diner and provided pop, fries and a burger or hot dog.
This has been a fantastic year of half marathons, being able to run with my husband, together we became half fanatics, achieved personal bests, and have met a lot of nice runners during this time. We ran 7 this year... and I have now completed 15!!! As I write this I am enjoying my post race chocolate milk... and am ready for the rest of the day and weekend with my family!!

This was my 6th half of the year, and my 14th half in total. The race we picked was 2 hours out of the city, and it's called "run for the hills" it's a Very, VERY hilly course!!!
I started the preparation the day before made pancakes for breakfast for the family, and made extra for hubby and I to have pre-race for breakfast. Packed our bags, waited until parents arrived to babysit our 3 boys, and then we picked up my MIL to come with us because our daughter is still nursing and we needed someone to watch her while we ran our race.
As we get into the town, I realize... damn I forgot the pancakes! Now what are we going to have?? I am apologizing to Eddie about forgetting them... we get to our room, we discover no microwave! So we wouldn't have been able to heat them up anyway! Thankfully I was able to use the restaurant next door to heat up my daughters supper. We went to the grocery store and Eddie picked up some bagels and peanut butter for our breakfast!
Before we went to the pre -race dinner, we drove the course to take some pictures and show my Mother in law.... She couldn't believe what we had to run!!
We went to the pre-race past dinner, which is by far the best pre-race dinner, being that it's smaller event, it's all home cooked food, pasta, lasagne, vegetarian option, a gluten free option, spaghetti, a few kinds of salads, and 6 different desserts!!
The course is all on country dirt gravel road, with beautiful scenery BUT the roads are very hilly!!!
Got up at 5am... had our breakfast, drank some water, they had no coffee maker so I had to go without my one cup of coffee, sigh, I managed.
The race started at 8am... we drove briefly by some houses and then the course takes off down all the country roads, it's very scenic, a lot of farm land, cows in the fields... the smaller hills were not too bad, but there are 3 really bad hills, I took some pictures, but they really don't do any justice.
I love running beside Eddie, we are so in tune with one another, when the other person is hurting we know something is up, I asked him what was wrong, and he said he was hurting, we had 3 miles to go... he told me I could run ahead, but I chose to stay with him, and when we came to cross the finish line we grabbed each others hand, and the announcer called both our names and finished our run at 2:02!!!
As hard as the race is, it's very challenging but so worth it. Even if every leg muscle is aching today!!

My twin boys start Kindergarten tomorrow, I can't believe it!! Where did the time go?? With the cost of daycare it was a very easy choice to stay at home with my boys once my 1 year of mat leave ended.... and since Ethan and Julian were born, we were blessed to have two more children. Aidan ( 3 years old) is starting pre-school on Friday. We felt it would be good for him because he can meet other kids his age, so we have 3 excited boys starting a new adventure!!!!
And the baby of the family, Abigail she is growing way too fast, learning to say a few words, she stands up by herself and so determined to walk, she has the best personality with her many facial expressions and smile that just melts your heart.
I am so excited for my boys starting school but so sad to have had them home this long, and seeing how fast time has flown, it seems like yesterday I could hold my two babies in my arms, and now seeing them grow into these individuals, the way they love to ask questions about everything, and how they have such a vivid imagination it makes me so happy for this new beginning, but so sad that they are growing up!

Today I now have 13 halfs under my belt!! It's hard to believe I have completed 5 so far this year, with plans for 2 more this year!!
In May my husband and I ran 3 halfs, giving us the opportunity to qualify to become half fanatics, we wore wear our shirts with pride for the first time for this race today.
I wasn't sure how this race would go because I have been sick with a cold for the last 2 weeks, no energy, running on fumes and haven't ran at all. I have 4 kids under 5 and getting rest and taking it easy is not an option, so it's go for walks, go to the park, wading pool, splash pad and everything else in our daily activities.
I went to bed at 8:30...
my princess Abigail picked last night of all nights that she wanted to nurse all night long, just for comfort... so not much sleep :(
Alarm goes off at 4am, of course princess was sleeping!!
Made my coffee ( I have to have at least 1 cup of coffee)
Drank some water, had some waffles..
Woke up Abby, nursed her... and was out the door shortly after 5am
It was a very scenic route along a river, and a lot of countryside, beautiful homes, and the weather was perfect! I ran with my DH for a few km... but he was in a zone and could not keep up to his pace.....
We crossed paths at the half way point, we blew each other kisses and we parted ways. I was so excited to use my garmin watch that my hubby got me for my early birthday present, it really helped me focus on keeping my pace, and letting me know how far I was, since the race we were doing was very small and had barely any route markers.
I wasn't striving for a personal best, but I knew I wanted to get 2 hours... so I kept my pace..and as always at the last 2 km I get a surge of energy that comes out of nowhere and I pick up the pace and thank goodness I did, I got my 2:00 finish!! So even though my husband and I can't always run the same pace, it is so rewarding to be able to see my wonderful husband at the finish line!!!!!

As I write this, I am just thinking of how my last several years have turned out...
Around 7 years ago, I had a first date with a wonderful guy, it was a very memorable first date, we laughed, it wasn't at all awkward, it was so very comfortable, from the moment the date ended, there were no dating rules/games from either of us (don't call for 3 days) they have to call first etc) As soon as we both parted, and he going home, and I had to work (worked midnights then) we both emailed each other with the same subject line "Best first date ever"
It just amazes me how life turns out the way it does..... It didn't take too long to have serious talks, and get engaged after dating for 5 months... and 7 months after that get married!! In almost 6 years, we were blessed with twin boys, a 3rd boy, and our 4th a baby girl, WOW 4 beautiful children, I feel so blessed, not only to have an amazing husband who works 2 jobs for our family, but he's such a caring and compassionate person. I know he doesn't like having to work all day, then to spend 15 minutes to an hour at home before he has to go out again, and our kids don't understand when they ask "daddy, why do you have to go to work, again" I am so thankful how my husband is supporting our family.
so thank you hunny for all that you do, I love you.. I know this is only temporary and not forever.... but I really appreciate you working so hard for us.
