DO I HAVE TO LOOK?

Saturday, October 02, 2010

Hi and Happy Saturday everyone! And, what a cold one it was this morning in Central Wisconsin when I got up! WOW! I opened the door to let the dogs outside to do their business, and.....
emoticon emoticonWhat is the temperature? emoticon emoticon
I think it even surprised them! There was frost on the car windshields and a definite, as they say, "nip in the air!" But what a big nip! I didn't look at the thermometer, but it had to be in the 20's! And, the same is in the forecast for this evening and tomorrow. So, I think it's time to find those sweaters and warmer coats again and get ready for the new season but, yet..........

I don't think I'm ready to look at that thermometer and those low readings and, I don't even think I have to! Just stepping outside tells it all!

But the emoticon is shining while the beautiful Fall emoticonleaves are blowing in the wind we're having as well today, but change is in air and everyone loves and needs a change now and then -- I just wish it was a little warmer one today! emoticon

I hope everyone has a great Saturday and, if you live in a cooler climate, put the chili pot on emoticon, bundle and snuggle up with someone you love emoticon and love the day!

It was decidedly cooler here in New York City today. We woke up and the temperature was in the low '50s, and made it up to the low 60's by midday. I love this weather! After my daughter's soccer practice we had a big pot of Mexican chicken tortilla soup for dinner. Hurray fall!

It is cold here in WNY. So wanted to sleep in this morning. The warm bed felt extra good. My cats were crying to come in this early AM and our boxer did not want to go out for her nature call. So it's time to wear warm sweaters and make home-made soup & home-made bread--plus I so enjoy sitting in front of the fireplace with a hot cup of green tea. Yes, it's autumn and harvest time...time to get ready for winter.

Oh, geez, I wish we had four seasons. Here in Arizona we have two seasons, really Hot and kind of Cold. We have a little niceness in fall and spring but it doesn't last long. We are still in the 100's this weekend but expecting a cool down to 90s after Monday.
Can't wait for the kind of cold so I can use my slow cooker. Love split pea and other beans soups.

We were chilly this morning, also, but not quite as chilly as you! No frost yet! Just the same, I covered some plants and put others in the garage last night and will do the same tonight. I'm just not yet ready to give up on warm(er) weather!
Enjoy your weekend!

MY WOO HOO WEDNESDAY HAS CHANGED INTO......

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

emoticoneverybody! Just as the title says, what happened to my emoticon Wednesday as it seems to have turned into emoticon what has been happening to me these past few weeks! emoticon

Everyone has their days, but, lately I feel like my emoticon has turned into more of a emoticonwhat's going to happen next! I'm not really sure if it's a good emoticon but I know for certain it has been a super busy and running emoticon time for me.

I'm trying to juggle work, family life, medical conditions and a community presentation that I'm working on with the City Library's Director and which is set for this coming Sunday dealing, again, with estate planning and making people aware of the ways they can benefit their families, charities, etc., for the years to come and in ways "they" want their affairs to be handled.

Problem is, I'm allowing myself to get stressed out again in preparation for Sunday's event! I've already kidded around with my friends, it feels like I'm getting married emoticon again! Everything has to be in place, where are we going to put this or that piece of equipment, is the podium ready? Let's arrange the tables this way for easy access, etc. How many people are going to attend? Is it going to be a success or not? The list just keeps going on and, the worst part is, I allow to myself to keep worrying about something that I really don't have that much control over. I can give it the best I can to benefit the Library and, mainly, the community, but I think I need one of those lovely emoticon in the butt as a reminder not to worry quite as much as I do about this sort of thing.

Or, how about helping me find my "stop worrying" button! Or, the "put in low gear" button! Don't we all wish it was that easy! A button to stop worrying and stressing out; a button to feel more motivated or energized; a button to make everything in our lives wonderful and perfect! Think about it--at first we'd all love those magic buttons, but, would we really push them? If we take out the challenges, the good stress, the bad stress, etc., from our days, wouldn't it become somewhat routine and boring after awhile? Gotta take the good with the bad, as they say, and keeping going forward step by step. And, that's what I've been trying to do..some days it works and, others... well....... emoticon maybe not.

So, if you have one of those "maybe not" emoticonsort of days, don't give up! There's always that little spark at the end of the tunnel and you gotta keep moving ahead until you reach that full and bright emoticonknowing that, be the end result good or maybe not as good as you had wished and hoped for, it makes no difference! You gave it everything you had, you helped others and you made it! emoticon

Now, I just wish I could say emoticon Sunday's upcoming event was a success--but we'll have to see! And, if you know me, I'm already thinking emoticon what my next challenge should be! emoticon

Gotta keep life interesting, active and going and maybe I'll try.................(can't give the secret away quite yet, but the thought is already in this head of mine!)

Have a great week everybody and super emoticon to all! Keep those challenges and goals coming!

And don't forget to emoticon all the way emoticon

I KNOW WHERE YOU CAN SPEND YOUR QUARTERS!!

Saturday, September 11, 2010

Hi Everyone! Well, today was a busy one in our City! It was our City-Wide Garage Sale Day! I live in a community of 10,000+ people and I’d love to know how many of those 10,000+ people emoticonwere hitting the sales today and finding their treasures while going from garage to garage! The streets were just buzzing! Talk about everyone getting their cardio in -- they sure did today!

It was just unfortunate that it was a emoticon rainy and dreary sort of day weather-wise, but I don’t think it slowed those shoppers down! My hubby thought we should join in the day, so he backed the cars out, set up a few tables and let the price stickers fly!

We did fairly well, considering we didn’t have that much ready to sell, and I wish I could have dug a bit deeper myself in a few drawers and cupboards, but anything you have to ask yourself,

emoticon“Why do I have 3 of these?”

emoticon“When is the last time someone actually used this or that?”

Or, the best one, emoticon“What is this?"

You know the answer! That little emoticon goes off and tells you---Sell it, donate it, it’s time to declutter and make a little extra room for things that we actually do use and need!

And, it even makes a bit more room for the things I bought at my neighbor’s sale! emoticon But, have no fear, I kept my purchases small and for things that we do use. You know what they say, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure,” well, I hope everyone found their treasures today and I’m glad that we could help them feel that way! It’s always great to see smiling and friendly people who are excited about what they bought, and some will tell you what they are going to do with it or the type of decoration they can make out of it, or that sort of thing.

So, I’m hoping Mother Nature cooperates a bit more tomorrow and brings that sunshine back, as we’re ready to open those doors and put up those signs!

Come one and come all – it’s garage sale time! emoticon

And, hmm….I wonder if my neighbor is still going to have her sale tomorrow. You know, she had this.... oops, better not! Gotta keep these quarters at home, or, do I? I have to walk the dogs emoticon and for some reason, I "think" they're going in the direction of that sale! They should -- we've all been there about 3 times between yesterday and today! emoticon I think we've made our own little path already!

But, we'll see what tomorrow brings! I hope it brings you emoticon sunshine
emoticonhappiness and more! And, who knows, maybe even your own special little treasure emoticon as well and one that won't even cost you a quarter!

Remember -- Smiles emoticon are always free and you even get one back in return!

Have a great one everybody! emoticon

I loved hearing about your garage sale and wish I could have been there. I never sell anything, I just keep buying more. On reading your page, we also have a couple of other things in common. Stephen King and Richard Gere. If you really liked "The Stand," I would like to recommend Robert McGammon's "Swan Song." It's another post-apocalyptic novel, but is a somewhat different vein. I think I've read it about 20 times. Richard Gere is just an amazing man. He is at ease in almost every role he has played, he is a dancer, he speaks Japanese, and has learned the fine art of meditation through being a Buddhist. I have only one question...why would such a sophisticated, intellectual, handsome man name his only son Homer? emoticon

SUNDAY'S STRESS RELIEVERS!

Sunday, August 22, 2010

emoticonHi and Happy Sunday everyone! I just have to share an email that I received from a friend -- who definitely knows me -- and how I've been feeling lately. And, nope, sorry, it isn't pretty! emoticon

But, when I read this email, it helped me immensely and what super reminders of what life is all about! So, I'm passing those reminders and thoughts along to you -- ready to lessen your stress??? Let's do it!

emoticonStress emoticon

A lecturer when explaining stress management to an audience, raised a glass of water and asked, "How heavy is this glass of water?" emoticon

Answers called out ranged from 20g to 500g.

The lecturer replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long you try to hold it.

emoticonIf I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem. emoticon

emoticon emoticonIf I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm. emoticon

emoticon emoticon emoticonIf I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance. emoticon

In each case, it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes."

He continued, "And that's the way it is with stress management. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on."

"As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden."

"So, before you return home tonight, put the burden of work down. Don't carry it home. You can pick it up tomorrow."

"Whatever burdens you're carrying now, let them down for a moment if you can. So, my friend, put down anything that may be a burden to you right now. Don't pick it up again until after you've rested a while."

emoticonHere are some great ways of dealing with the burdens of life emoticon

emoticonAccept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue.

emoticonAlways keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.

emoticonDrive carefully. It's not only cars that can be "Recalled" by their maker.

emoticonIf you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.

emoticonIf you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

emoticonIt may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to be kind to others.

emoticonNever put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won't have a leg to stand on.

emoticonNobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.

emoticonWhen everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.

emoticonBirthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.

emoticonYou may be only one person in the world, but you may also be the world to one person.

emoticonSome mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

emoticonWe could learn a lot from crayons... Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names, and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.

emoticonA truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

Have a sun-filled emoticonand wonderful day everyone! And, anytime you need to lessen that stress, come back and read a few reminders -- and I hope you feel a bit better afterwards!

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
