The Sacredness of the Everyday

Monday, September 28, 2009

I still was basking in the thought about the sacredness of the everyday. Every day unfolded with moments when the eternal seemed to touch the temporal. Light overcame darkness. Hope triumphed over despair. Nothing here in the earthly realm changed. But God somehow touched people, places, and moment, and the everyday became a glimpse of heaven."

"In a way that I still can't explain, I felt as if I understood what it was like to be an ordinary nutcracker. I was nothing out of the ordinary. But whenever the eternal touches me, I know that I warm and maybe even glow a little. I am one of God's everyday women. But He makes me sacred."

These paragraphs are from the book "Sisterchicks in Wooden Shoes" by Robin Jones Gunn

I have been reading this book. It is such a profound fiction book. It deals with so many concepts of dealing with the fears that we face everyday and how God is waiting for us to seek his help. I know I am doing a poor job of explaining how this book has touched and changed my life this week. I want to wake up everyday and embrace the sacredness of everyday and no longer take it for granted. I borrowed this book from the library to read. I am sure that all of you could borrow it too. In every one of the Sisterchick books that I have read I have found something profound that touched my life.

In the spirit of my Jade Dragons

Sunday, September 20, 2009

Last week I had a friend return some clothes I had loaned her when being a size 18 was just a dream. Well in those clothes was this dress that I have not worn since 2001 or early 2002. So because today was a beautiful day I decided to have hubby take some pictures. Not the easiest thing to do on a windy day. So Jade Dragons all the way!

Food Nutrition Comparisions

Comparing apples to oranges
You know that proper nutrition is important. A healthy diet will help you live a longer, happier life.

But foods can be deceiving. You don't always know nutritional information about your food choices.

twofoods can help you make smarter decisions about the food you eat. It will help you compare the nutritional value of two foods.

Just enter the foods you'd like to compare. Then, hit Enter. You're presented with nutrition information.

Below the nutrition information, you'll see other choices. These help you get more specific with your comparison. For example, if you searched for "apple," you'll see various types of apples.

twofoods provides information on calories, carbs, fat and protein content. This is great for those on a diet. And it can help you make better choices overall.

Hint: twofoods isn't limited to generic foods. You can also look up specific menu items from restaurants. So, this is a handy site to bookmark on your phone. You can eat better no matter where you are!

My hubby sent this to me from Kim Komandos cool site of the day! I thought is could be fun comparing!

Not taking measurements any more.

Friday, September 11, 2009

I am crying "uncle!" when it comes to taking measurements. This is just something me and my family are not skilled at. We cannot come up with the same two measurements from week to week. I know I have lost because the scale says so and my clothes don't fit anymore, but from week to week I end up with being two inches smaller, two inches bigger. You get the picture so as of now I am just not setting myself up further frustration, unless of course I actually find someone who can actually measure correctly. Don't get me wrong I really appreciate my dd's and hubby trying, but after 8 months of the roller coaster up and down I am admitting defeat in this area.

Congrats on the clothes getting better. I like the tattoo Idea someone mentioned here. Might make it easier. But I wouldn't want the person tattooing to see. LOL Well anyway, major congrats again on the looser clothing. who needs a meas tape anyway!!! emoticon

I was thinking if I tatooed a little arrow at each pt that I want to measure at then I could make sure to get the same spot each time! : ) teri

They have this new measuring tape on amazon that seems to correct this problem but I don't know the name of it. In any event, if you clothes are fitting better that is a positive sign. Don't worry about it. If you really want to keep measuring yourself, do it 1 month. It might reflect you hard work better.

I have that same problem! I keep thinking I am doing it in the same place and holding it the same tightness, but know I have not lost the inches its says sometimes, and my clothes are not getting any loser! Ha! But if you can see a difference in your clothes, that's all that matters.

As long as clothes fit differently, you're losing inches. I have trouble taking measurements. I thought my waist had increased, but I was able to zip up a pair of jeans and close the button without trouble, so....
