Unexpected non-scale victory!

Monday, September 07, 2009

Okay I really didn't know what to title this so that is the best I could come up with. This morning when we pulled in and parked at church I looked out and thought there is no way I can get out of my door. There was a big old truck very close. I said something to hubby and he said he would move over. He didn't realise how close he was. I said well let me try. Anway I was able to get out and get back in without a problem. 6 months ago I would never have been able to squeeze through that space!

The bad news is I went about 300 calories over today. I did manage to walk over 11,000 steps. Tomorrow we have another bbq and I must be good at least I should be able to get my regular exercise in.

Wow, that is GREAT! It takes those kind of victories to be able to withstand the not so nice scale numbers sometimes! Ha!

Congrats! I live for NSV's since the scale doesn't budge for me.

Way to go! Sometimes the NSV's are way sweeter, because they are so unexpected! Keep up the great work, and don't worry about the 300 cals over. Take a look at your food log and see...was your day loaded with salt, fat, fruits and veggies? Sometimes its not THAT we did it, but rather HOW we did it.

Another Chance

Saturday, September 05, 2009

How often we wish for another chance
to make a fresh beginning.
A chance to blot out our mistakes
And change failure into winning.
It does not take a new day
To make a brand new start,
It only takes a deep desire
To try with all our heart.
To live a little better
And to always be forgiving
And to add a little sunshine
To the world in which we're living.
So never give up in despair
And think that you are through,
For there's always a tomorrow
And the hope of starting new.

That is a cool poem. It makes me think of times I wish I could start things over but then remember to be grateful for my past. Because without it I wouldn't be who I am today or have the 4 (5 if you count my BF girl) wonderful children. THanks

Embracing Imperfection

Friday, September 04, 2009

A friend sent this in an e-mail to me and it really spoke to my heart and I wanted to share it with the rest of you. I am sorry I don't know where it originated.

When I was a little boy, my mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner > every now and then. And I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work. On that evening so long ago, my mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage, and extremely burned toast in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed! Yet all my dad did was reach for his toast, smile at my mom, and ask me how my day was at school.

I don't remember what I told him that night, but I do remember watching him smear butter and jelly on that toast and eat every bite! When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my mom apologize to my dad for burning the toast. I'll never forget what he said. 'Baby, I love burned toast.'

Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night, and I asked him if he really liked his toast burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said, 'Little Buddy, your Momma put in a hard day at work today and she's real tired. And besides-a little burnt toast never hurt anyone! You know, life is full of imperfect things...and imperfect people.'

What I've learned over the years is that learning to accept each other's faults - and choosing to celebrate each other's differences - is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship. And that's my prayer for you today - that you will learn to take the good, the bad and the ugly parts of your life and lay them at the feet of GOD. Because in the end, He's the only One who will be able to give you a relationship where burnt toast isn't a deal-breaker! We could extend this to any relationship in fact - as understanding is the base of all relationships, be it a husband-wife or parent-child or friendship!!"

Don't put the key to your happiness in someone else's pocket - but into your own.

See through God's eyes and feel through God's heart, and you will appreciate the value of every soul including yourself.

People may forget what you do, and they may forget what you say, but they will never, ever forget the way you make them feel.

I think a lot of times what we fear is what keeps us bound in our chains of being overweight. Today's sermon was titled F.E.A.R and I was thinking of all the similiarities of our Christian Life and our journey to loose weight. So I am adapting it to apply to our journey to get healthy.

Faith grounds us and can be built upon. Faith grows as we act upon what we have learned about livng a healthier lifestyle.

Your growing faith adds to your experience. If we don't learn from history, we are doomed to repeat is over and over and over. If you are like me you have lost hundreds if not thousands of pounds in your lifetime. Fact must first place and must not be displaced by feelings. As we practice what we have learned about becoming healthy, we will loose weight.

I stand in awe everytime I look into the mirror, or see a picture of me, or even walking down the road and see a skinnier shadow. I feel like some one should pinch me to make sure what I am seeing is true. As these healthy principles are applied and lived out in our daily lives, you too can stand in awe of how your body is changing and you are gaining more confidence in yourself.

Faith in action! You must have determination to continue the principles you have learned to become healthy. It must not become an option but an obsession to stay healthy. We must not go back to where we were before we started this journey, no looking back. Food must no longer rule our life.

My page now contains only pics taken by members of my family on our recent trip to Yellowstone. I can't tell much difference from the ones I posted before from a National Park DVD. Look in my gallery and see the difference.

Climbing Shepherd's Cliff

This is the Fairy Falls, we hiked 2.6 miles into them and really wished I would have had the hiking sticks on the way back out.

My two grands that didn't want to stay still for a pic with gran, there were too many things to do!
