Don't Eat You Way Out of the Pit

Don't Eat Your Way Out of the Pit
Lysa TerKeurst
Quote:"Where do I run when life presses in on me? Who or what am I really dependent on? Do I have a habit of inviting guilt to join me in my pit? What might happen if I stopped grabbing for comfort and instead embraced the perspective change of thanksgiving?"

Entire devotional here. devotions.proverbs31.org/2011/05/don
t-eat-your-way-out-of-the-pit.html

New changes in our lives. Seems like every time we get use to living with the changes a new one comes our way. God is teaching me so much. This devotional so spoke to my heart today. I thought I would share it with all of you. For too many years I have ate my way out of the pit and gained, gained, gained. Even after loosing 100 pounds I was not able to maintain it as I reacted wrongly to pressure. I am happy to say that I am regaining so much ground not necessarily in the weight department although there is progress there, the most progress has been made inside me. God has never more precious in my life then right now. I am relearning that He is ALL I NEED. His desire is for me to be healthy. So this year I have been focusing on healing my spirit and my body from the inside out. I will be sharing more later on that as I am just beginning a NEW LIFESTYLE. I am happy to say that hubby is finally fighting back for himself also.

Legend of the Dogwood

Sunday, April 24, 2011

The Legend of the Dogwood
(author unknown)

In Jesus time, the dogwood grew
to a stately size and a lovely hue.

Twas strong and firm its branches interwoven,
for the cross of Christ its timbers were chosen.

Seeing the distress at this use of their wood
Christ made a promise which still holds good:

Never again shall the dogwood grow
Large enough to be used so.

Slender and twisted it shall be
with blossoms like the cross for all to see.

As blood stains the petals marked in brown,
the blossoms center wears a thorny crown.

All who see it will remember Me
crucified on a cross from the dogwood tree.

Cherished and protected, this tree shall be.
A reminder to all of my agony.

The Miracles of Easter

The sleeping earth awakens,
The robins start to sing,
The flowers open wide their eyes
To tell us it is spring.
The bleakness of the winter
Is melted by the sun,
The tree that looked so stark and dead
Becomes a living one.
These miracles of Easter
Wrought with diving perfection,
Are the blessed reassurance
Of our Saviour's Resurrection.
Helen Steiner Rice ~

Wonderful day at church hearing the wonderful Easter Songs about our risen Savior. The twins were so cute in there Easter outfits. She found coordinating outfits at Baby Depot and I will be posting pics when she returns from their anniversary get away.

The dogwood is the official state flower of North Carolina, where I am from. I miss the gorgeous trees that just line the streets there. I ordered a Kousa dogwood tree that is supposed to do good here, and planted it a few weeks ago. It is just a twig, but in time...I hope!

Did It! Pic of Virtual 10K 119.55 Minutes!

Saturday, April 16, 2011

I did it! 9 days ago I got sick and everyday I have wondered if I would be able to complete the task. Today all day I watched the weather. Finally there was a break in the rain about 5:30 pm. So I headed out the door. Hubby asked if I was sure I should be doing it when I had been so sick and was still not 100 percent. The winds were blowing 10-20 mph with 30 mph gusts. I was hoping to be under 2 hours but with still being sick and the side wind I just wanted to complete it. Hubby was working and dd was making dinner. In order to walk 10K, I had to walk one leg twice. On my way back the first time I saw dd coming to join and encourage me. She had to go finish dinner so I headed out on the last leg. With a mile and half to go I just about got blown off the road into an electric fence. At the turn around point I was suppose to call hubby and he would head out to walk the last mile with me. Dd said the he was already on his way, not long after that I saw him waiting in front of me. He kept encouraging me and was even running backwards. I was so tired. I am still not 100%. The good was I didn't have a coughing fit while walking! I had to jog the last little bit to make my time goal. Well I did it with 5 seconds to spare! About two years ago many times I could not even walk let alone think about walking a 10K.

Grab your Buddy by the hand!

Thursday, March 31, 2011

Grab your buddy by the hand (virtually), make some goals and check in on each other and see how they are doing! Together we will reach our goals.

Three hours of cardio today. On track with eating! I am going to finish this race. I was at the store and hungry and oh those chips were calling my name. Bought a pear instead. Cost me 50 cents and boy way it good! Saved money and calories!

What is on your plan tomorrow?

It Couldn't Be Done
By Edgar A. Guest
Somebody said that it couldn't be done,
But he with a chuckle replied
That "maybe it couldn't," but he would be one
Who wouldn't say so till he'd tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.
Somebody scoffed: "Oh, you'll never do that;
At least no one ever has done it";
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,
And the first thing we knew he'd begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.
There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That "cannot be done," and you'll do it.

Read this devotional today and it struck a cord in me!

So today, when we’re faced with a challenge or golden opportunity, let’s remember two things: God is with us, and the world is watching.

So on the count of three…

I loved this blog. It gives me inspiration. Keep sending them. I like you yesterday--went out with my mother and sister, which is usually stressful--wanted an cheeseburger and french fries. My favorite meal of all time. I got a grilled chicken sandwich and onion rings. I took the lid off the sandwich and shared the onion rings with my mother. I felt better for it. Soooo I know I can do it too. Just some planning ahead better maybe the next time. I am off this week and am trying to get around to seeing some old friends and spend time with my mother and sister. Of course everyone wants to go out to eat. It is hard but I know where I'm going today and I have a plan to stick to. Thank you for the inspiration Leona. emoticon

They are watching! I'm doubly reminded of that because I have a pro-life bumper sticker on my car and it attracts looks and comments. It certainly was easier to give dirty looks to obnoxious drivers (not sure if they exist in such great numbers in Washington as they do here) before I had stuck a label on myself.
