901 Posts! Are you kidding me?

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Yep that is how many responses there were on my post for 100 Pounds Maintained for 4 Months that was highlighted on the Community e-mail in the beginning of June. It was a really stressful time for me and I can say today that I finished going through all of them. I have posted on every page I could, sent e-mails to members that have not made a page encouraging them to do so and members whose pages are set to private, encouraging them to make them public. Many people said that I didn't have to respond to every message, but many of them it was the only post they have ever made on Sparks. I have been so blessed and encouraged by them that I wanted to take the time to "Thank" them individually.

Do We Ever Grow Up?

Sunday, June 06, 2010

Yesterday was my Aunt's Memorial Service. My sis decided to stop by my house and change and put her makeup on as they had been camping in the middle of the state. Her daughter went in our car and I went in hers. We had such a great time just catching up and sharing our hearts on the hour drive north. We started talking about the fond memories we had in the park that was across the road from the church that we had spent many hours playing on the slide. Way back when the parks weren't as cool as they are now and this was the only park we knew of that had a circular slide so we decided that we were going to go take a picture on it and eventually I convinced her to slide down it. She was worried about snagging her pants. She only has two pair that fit her since she has lost weight and doesn't want to buy more because she is still losing.

When The Warrior Returns

Friday, May 28, 2010

When I was looking for Memorial Day stuff I found this song, it is a new one for me even though it was written many years ago.

When The Warrior Returns

Francis Scott Key (1779-1843 / United States)

When the warrior returns, from the battle afar,
To the home and the country he nobly defended,
O! warm be the welcome to gladden his ear,
And loud be the joy that his perils are ended:
In the full tide of song let his fame roll along,
To the feast-flowing board let us gratefully throng,
Where, mixed with the olive, the laurel shall wave,
And form a bright wreath for the brows of the brave.

Columbians! a band of your brothers behold,
Who claim the reward of your hearts' warm emotion,
When your cause, when your honor, urged onward the bold,
In vain frowned the desert, in vain raged the ocean:
To a far distant shore, to the battle's wild roar,
They rushed, your fair fame and your rights to secure:
Then, mixed with the olive, the laurel shall wave,
And form a bright wreath for the brows of the brave.

In the conflict resistless, each toil they endured,
'Till their foes fled dismayed from the war's desolation:
And pale beamed the Crescent, its splendor obscured
By the light of the Star Spangled flag of our nation.
Where each radiant star gleamed a meteor of war,
And the turbaned heads bowed to its terrible glare,
Now, mixed with the olive, the laurel shall wave,
And form a bright wreath for the brows of the brave.

Our fathers, who stand on the summit of fame,
Shall exultingly hear of their sons the proud story:
How their young bosoms glow'd with the patriot flame,
How they fought, how they fell, in the blaze of their glory.
How triumphant they rode o'er the wondering flood,
And stained the blue waters with infidel blood;
How, mixed with the olive, the laurel did wave,
And formed a bright wreath for the brows of the brave.

Then welcome the warrior returned from afar
To the home and the country he nobly defended:
Let the thanks due to valor now gladden his ear,
And loud be the joy that his perils are ended.
In the full tide of song let his fame roll along,
To the feast-flowing board let us gratefully throng,
Where, mixed with the olive, the laurel shall wave,
And form a bright wreath for the brows of the bravo.

Wow....that is beautiful....thank you for sharing. I think I'll copy and post it on a blog as well, & also on at least one of my other teams. Thank you again for sharing this.

My dad served in Vietnam. Instead of coming home to a warm welcome, he came home to riots. It was hard for him....it wasn't his fault, he was doing his duty, and this was how our country showed their thanks? It was hard for him when people welcomed soldiers home from the Kuwait conflict. Thankfully things have changed and for the most part, we as a country do a much better job of honoring ALL veterans.

Hope you have a blessed Memorial Day! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I am so humbled and grateful to the people of the armed services and the families that stand behind them and support them as well. We are so fortunate to live in a country that have people serving their country in so many ways that have and do pave the way for the freedoms we have and are blessed to have. I pray the citizens not serving in some branch will support them during the election process to keep the freedoms that have been fought for over the years as well as currently.

I appreciate this blog and for reminding the rest of us of our responsibilites to stand up for our nation and our God.

To the past and current people that have and do serve our country I want to extend my sincere thanks to each of you for your service and may God bless and be with each and every one of you.

I served in the Army along with my husband and many of my High School friends. I have great respect for those who have worn the uniform and those who are currently wearing it along with the loved ones they leave behind so that we can have our freedoms.
