100 Pound Loss Maintained for 4 Months!

Sunday, April 25, 2010

Hey guess what? I know, you already know because it is in the title. I am so excited! I have maintained this loss for 4 months!

I know I have had a really stressful start to the year and have become a yo-yo, but 100+ pounds are still gone. My last derailment was only one meal. I ate 400 calories of ice cream for lunch, yep that is right but the rest of the day I was right on target and stayed in my calorie range. I didn't eat the whole thing. I am making so much progress I just want to pinch myself.

I pass by a mirror and catch a glimpse and smile. Yep that is me!

I see my shadow as I walk and it is slimmer than it was a year ago. I am wearing my daughters clothes! We are talking about combining a closet in the guest room then we can just go grab what we want to wear and not have to continually go to the others room (hers is upstairs).

Have I finished my journey? No Way! I still have 30 or so pounds to go.

Do I stay perfect everyday? That is a laugh and a half! What I have done is realize I am not a perfect person.

I learn daily what doesn't work and keep working at it until I figure out what does work for me. I still allow my emotions to get out of control, but I am learning how to get back in control.

Choices are what it is all about. I can choose to go out and eat and go over my calories, or have something that it is higher calorie, but then I choose the next day to resume my healthy lifestyle I have embraced! My grandchildren will never remember an obese grandma!

I could never have achieved it without the loving support and encouragement of all the wonderful friends I have met along the way here on Sparks

and by taking the time to learn what I could from this amazing website that is free to all.

Thanks so much for sharing your story, and contacting me. When I clicked on your first photo I thought, wow, we could be sisters... then I saw your "skinny" photos, and I thought, wow, that could be me by next year! You are an inspiration, thank you so much.

Never a skinny-mini, I had a quadruple-whammy about 10 years ago when I put on most of my 150 lbs. of excess weight in less than one year: quit smoking, hit full menopause, facing 3 serious health issues, and had my fiance walk out without a word -- leaving me after he had helped me recover from major financial and personal losses in the previous year (loss of lifelong home, life savings, job, personal possesions, trusted friend, deaths of both parents)... on my own once again as single parent and sole support of my two children...

Well here I am 10 years later, already lost 60 lbs., looking forward to the next 100... I love SparkPeople so much because it really helps break down the process into manageable bites... there is so much in life that leaves me feeling "overwhelmed" -- now, at least, managing and tracking my food and fitness seem doable, and I can feel the positive attitude beginning to drift over into the rest of my life, too.

I have already referred a dozen friends to this site. I hope it helps them as much as it has me -- in just two weeks! I can't wait to see the changes in my life over the years to come.

Thanks again for reaching out to me, Leona. You can tell it means a lot to me.

My best wishes to you,

-Denise

I wish my children did not have an obese mother, but your line about your grandchildren never remembering an obese grandma struck home for me. As my sons are nearly 18 and 20, it may be too late for them to never remember me big, but I can look forward to that with their children - and quite honestly I can look forward to simply being around to see them!!

Thanks for all you do to cheer me on and push me forward!! I look forward to your blog when those final pounds have disappeared from your life forever. It will be a great day for all!!

No wonder I got to 300 pounds! Think Jillian was sitting on my shoulder today!

Saturday, April 17, 2010

Today was are really horrible day! Didn't start out that way, somewhere along the way it went awry. I walked into a room and was verbally attacked loudly in front of many people. This has been happening for almost a decade. I have always taken it and sometimes cried and but never defended or stood up for myself.

I have struggled with feelings of rejection for my entire life. Feeling rejection within my own family, school years, churches and jobs. Well after this happened I wanted to walk out and never go back, some of the people that witnessed this through the day came up and gave me hugs and said that they couldn't believe I was still there. I cried, and cried some more, called two dds and told them mom needed prayer right now, I didn't take the time to tell them what was going on. They are awesome and immediately held me up in prayer.

I went and told the person what they did was rude and inconsiderate. This person apologized several times throughout the day, even told me that she was just trying to make a point to everyone. Well why didn't she direct the comment to everyone instead of placing all the blame on me?

As the whole scenario played over and over in my head during the day I kept having to fight myself from falling into the lies that I have believed for so long of rejection. You know the ones, you have had them too! You are not worth anything, this just is one more point that proves it. During the day I was able to share with two of my dds, my hubby and my sis the real me and how it I have felt rejected by everyone most of my life. I know that many of these times I was only perceiving the rejections, but perceptions still need to be dealt with, because true or not they still have the ability to hinder us from being the person God meant us to be and enjoying and celebrating the person you are.

So then there comes a huge light bulb going off in my head! I know you can see it shining from wherever you are! I could so hear Jillian and Bob from all the seasons of BL that I have watched, where they try to help every contestants figure out what in their life had led them to the point that they had totally lost control over it and gained so much weight.
Well mine is the feelings of rejection that I have accepted all my life. Well no more I am standing up and being counted as a worthy person that has value and is talented.

I hope in writing this all out that someone else may realise they too can break free of the rejection you have been feeling so long. You are a person worthy of being loved and worthy of living a life of acceptance.

Some of us have been rejected so much, it comes naturally. I even fear that one day my children will reject. My sister in law recently erased me as a facebook friend and has yet to tell me why. I have emailed, called and texted asking why, but she won't respond. She is moody, but it still bothers me. I have been abandoned by both parents in life, and sometimes it feels my husband has left the building.
I am proud of you for discovering your value. I am still looking and hoping that I can find some value for myself. It is difficult, but you have hit the nail on the head. Unfortunately, I even feel rejected when I try a new church, so I rarely go.
I'm proud of you. You can do this. You are a great influence and inspiration for me and many others here.
Thank you,

Being a princess, since your Dad is the King of Kings, you will do well to hold onto the knowledge that you are worth more than anything here. Other's may have their opinions and may spew their attitudes all over you, but you are absolutely worth the world and beyond. He knows and believes it, and the wonderful thing is you know it and now believe it as well. I personally struggled with this for years for one reason or another and at times, I believe, the Devil likes to whisper untruths to me causing me to stumble and drop that knowledge. The best thing is that once we truly know and believe the truth about our worth, all we have to do - if we do stumble and drop it - is grab it back up again. I am so happy that you have the Truth.

I too grew up with this same feeling of being rejected, and unloved. I was constantly fed negative and hurtful words. It has taken me years to reverse those negative thoughts about my self, and really I still do struggle at times. But, what kept me strong was knowing that God did not think of me in the way that my own parents were making me feel. I clung to Him and he gave me new life. He also provided a wonderful husband that has helped me so much. Hold onto the words of God not of those that hurt you.

Congratulations on taking another step to reach you goal. It is good that you are finding ways to be empowered. From my experience I find reaching out to God provides the best motivation for help and empowerment. God created us and he does not make mistakes. As one of His creations and given the freedom of choice, many of us are here have made some poor choices regarding food.
We are aware that those choices were not working and we are a work in progress as we change from past choices. We are taking the necessary steps to get the junk out of our bodies by ridding ourselves of extra pounds gained through previous poor choices.
We can not change yesterdays choices but we can do something about the present.
We can not control the hurtful things that people around us say. We can show them through our example what is true and good. We start by taking care of ourselves and being good stewards of the bodies God gave us.
My focus now is making it to the finish line while becoming as physically, mentally and spiritually healthy as possible. I pray to God when I am weak and receive strength from Him. We are all from His workmanship and we are responsible for ourselves. We are all valuable in God's eyes and those are the eyes we need to see ourselves through. Jesus has provided the way and example for us in everything we do including eating in moderation. It is up to us to make good food decisions. When we continue tofollow Jesus, we will find the way to realize success. I praise God from whom all our blessings flow for understanding and opening the door to a better life.

Normal Sized Looking Out of Fat Eyes

Monday, April 12, 2010

Hiding behind being anonymous. Who am I really? Someone many of you will never meet in person. I don't feel like anyone special. I don't feel like I have anything in me to motivate someone else. Today at church someone passing by commented on how they had been talking about me and saying how great I look. I thought why couldn't you actually talk to me? I realize I am still carrying around a lot of baggage and lies that I have believed all my life.

I am not good enough, I can't do this, things in my life will never change. I will never do anything important in my life. I am not important to anyone. I am still looking at myself out of fat eyes. Focusing on the negative.

Even though I have managed to lose 100 pounds and keep it off, I can't seem to keep focused to lose the rest that I need to. I find myself going back to old habits and believing old lies that I have bought into for too long. A young man came over today and made the comment he didn't understand how a person could allow themselves to become so out of control. My response to him was that it is not just one thing, but usually one soft choice that leads to another bad choice until you feel like there is nothing that you can do to change your life and you give up. Until a person is ready to take control of their own life and make the choice to change, you cannot say or do anything that can make them do it.

So I am right now taking the next step to a healthier me. I hope you will all join me and together we can encourage and support one other, change our mindset to reflect the truly amazing person we are! We are not defined by our perception of who we think we are, but need to embrace the wonderful human being God has created us to be.

Our minds can play awful tricks on us by using our own thoughts against us, but it's important to realize this is simply an illusion and remember who you are before that first thought enters your conscious mind. You are a complete being, strong, confident, planted firmly in that knowledge that is constant, and forever no matter what comes along, not like those fleeting thoughts of our mind.....blessings to you...

    I will join with you!

I understand what you are talking about. Not believing those lies is really tough for me. It seems like all my life has been surrounded by those lies. I haven't had very many encouraging people around.

However, I am doing better lately. I know how special I am to God...I just have to accept it.

You are very special to God and to others. Through the forum you help lead, I have personally been encouraged and blessed, and I know you have encouraged and impacted many on Sparkpeople. Try to remember to take every thought captive to Jesus...the right ones--keep, the lies--cast away. Praise and worship Him! He will keep you in perfect peace when your mind is stayed on Him!

God loves you and He is using you according to His will for your life!

Oh Leona! I am so sorry that you are struggling, you are such an amazing woman and I would have never know that you were going through these emotions. Wow, I'm sending you huge hugs!! I'm also going to pray for you, these negative feelings are nothing more than the enemy trying to get into your head and mess with you to keep you off your journey.
You've got to put it to a halt, daily you need to brag on yourself, tell yourself how awesome you are, how far you've come and that NO ONE is going to stop you from being successful. You are a child of God, and God doesn't make junk!!! I admire you so much for all that you've accomplished and if I can help in anyway shape or form, please shoot me and email and we can swap #s.

Hugs & Prayers!
Krystie

It is so refreshing to hear such heartfelt honesty. It's funny how we can accomplish so much but still feel the doubt still feel trapped in old ways. But isn't it funny how God has uses the bad in our lives for good? I don't know you well, but you are a kind soul and an inspiration. God gave this journey to you, this is part of your testimony :) "We are not defined by our perception of who we think we are, but need to embrace the wonderful human being God has created us to be. " So true! Hold on to that truth tight :)
"When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen."
-Ephesians 3:14-21

I think it's only our human nature to be easily drawn to the negative. It's only until we change our mind to be more like Him that we begin to see things more positively. I read a wonderful quote the other day, not too sure who wrote it:

"We are not human beings going through a temporary spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings going through a temporary human experience."

Stay positive and you will continue to be a wonderful role model for the rest of us. You can't help it . . . it's in your nature! emoticon

While you're right that I may never meet you in person, I want to tell you that you ARE a special person. The way you reach out to others... EVEN THIS POST shows that. Encouraging others in their struggles, as you work through your own. That's how life should be lived, right? We were created to be together, to support one another. And you do just that.

So true, it is much easier to let old negative thoughts crowd into our mind, which then turns into old negative patterns of behavior. But we are daughters of the most high king and not worthy of such negative activity....OUT NEGATIVE THOUGHTS...in the name of our lord and savior....You are a beautiful creature inside and out created by him for a purpose...one of which is to inspire me...and untold hundreds of others..I'm with you on this journey and we'll both make it. emoticon

I do know you. I think you've done an awesome job! Hubby and I have had the conversation many times that you and your hubby are "living" examples of Gods word. I had something great happen today, see my blog. I've been off track for the last week or so, I know a lot is because I overwhelmed myself with trying to do too much and not keeping in focus - slow and steady. People say, its times like these to break out the before pictures to compare -- to remind you how far you've come. Praying for you.

50 Habits of Naturally Thin People

Saturday, March 27, 2010

I came across this article and thought there is some really good tips in here. While reading it I realized that I have incorporated many of the tips into my lifestyle now. Does that mean I have gone from Obese to Thin? Well I am not there yet and it was very much not natural it was a lot of hard work and consistency. Hope this helps my SparkFriends!

12. Switch your soda Your body doesn't register calories from liquids the same way it does those from foods, so you won't get those "stop eating" signals to help you compensate for the overload later on. Change from two glasses of regular soda or fruit juice to diet soda or a flavored seltzer. Saves 300

Dr. Pepper was a huge contributor to me reaching 300 pounds!

13. Talk it up Every time you grab the phone, stand up and pace around. Heavy people sit on average two and a half hours more per day than thin people, according to the Mayo Clinic. Burns 50 or more

I almost always walk while I talk on the phone, sometime I put on my bluetooth and do my strength training.

Yes this is me!

23. Shop till the pounds drop At the mall, try on at least ten outfits, both pants and shirts. No need to buy! Burns 60

Wow when I was looking for outfits for my mom's surprise birthday party I burned lots of calories.

29. Start with soup Order a clear soup instead of a salad soaked with two tablespoons full-fat ranch and you can save twice the calories. Plus you'll feel fuller, so you'll eat less when the entrée comes. Saves 100

I always order the dressing on the side and usually don't even eat a teaspoon.

34. Have your cake Pick up an angel food cake for dessert. It's packed with air and has fewer than half the calories of, say, pound cake. Saves 70

Our family's favorite, top it with fresh or frozen strawberries, great for birthdays.

39. Sing a song Spend Sunday morning belting it out in the church choir. Burns 70 per service

I love singing, we don't have to wait for Sunday to sing!

44. Catch this! Spend a half-hour tossing a ball or Frisbee with your kid. Burns 90

Anyone want to come over and toss a frisbee?
