Little old fashion skills

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Our kids are so busy learning new things with the computers, ipads and newest game that many do not know how to sew, fix a car, saw a board or use a hammer. In school they are enudated with college. Take advance class to get them ahead in college. But in school they do not take the fun classes like shop or home ec.

Tonight my daughter brought home the band uniforms to hem. I got out the sewing machine and measured and started to sew.

She watched me and said, "Where did you learn to do this. My teacher told us to take the uniform to a seamstress, but I did have to worry I knew you have done this before." I told her I learned at school and I was in 4-H.

Now I am not a good seamstress but from years of gaining weight and losing weight I can take in clothes and let them out. But still it is nice to know in our high tech world we still need old fashion skills like sewing.

Usually I hate clothes shopping. Today was the Tax free weekend so I went Walmart at 7:30 and was able to get underwear and even some help finding the kind I wanted. Then I found some pants and a top not in the large sizes but a regular size 16 WOW.

Not many people were there and the store was clean and I was able to try on the clothes it was amazing.

On to JC Pennys to meet my husband and daughter. Got some new undergarments I did not even know what size to buy. How do you shop for bras I am glad I was there early so I was not emoticon looking at every bra and trying on so many. My daughter got pants, tops ect. At 8:00am it was great no people. I divided the bags into 75 dollarso I could get $15 off per $75 since there were no people the clerk was very helpful. Saved $55 and no tax

Then on to Harlingen Mall Sears new shoes, daughter hair cut, she went to Hot Topics for t-shirts. Lunch/breakfast eggs and nopales. Then to Mcallen Handcock fabics to get some materials for curtains for the school. Home at last to take a nap.
WoW what a day. And I usually hate to shop.

Becky you wear me out just reading your post.
How do you shop for bras? A friend told me I needed to go be fitted for a bra after I bought a dress that had darts above the encantos. LOL
I thought i looked good but found out when you lose weight you are to buy new undergarments also. Found I was wearing a cup way too small on a too large bra.
Then when I became queen someone else told me I need to go be fit for a bra so I went again. There are people in most of the bigger stores who will help you buy a bra your size and show you how to fit it.

So I was sick for 2 days. Went back to work and was tired my body really needed to slow down. Now I am back on track and I will not eat unhealthy food. The days of going out for lunch are over.

When I stepped on the scale and did not gain I am motivated to keep going. I can do this. I joined the Halloween challenge and I hope by the end of Oct. to be at least 10 lbs lighter.

It was nice to go out to eat at a Vegan Restaurant an to eat only 1/2 of my plate. The rest I will eat for lunch. I was hungry but I just could not eat all the food. Maybe I am learning how to control my portions. There was free bread but I only had a few pieces. I just don't need to stuff myself. I was glad that I had the support of my Spark friends. Irene and Marcy took home 1/2 their food tooo.

Today I woke up and felt light headed and nauseous. I did not walk on the treadmill I went back to bed. I woke up at 7:00am and I did not go to work. I thought I had the flu. Went to bed then bed and the room started to spin. emoticon I know this feeling I have had it before it is not the flu. I went to the doctor waited 2 hours because I was a walkin. Got the meds and I hope to feel better soon. But the good news is the doctor told me to stay home for today and the next. So Weds. I get to stay home from work. Boy am I glad I have 85 sick days. I guess I can use a few of them.
