Tis the season of back to school.
Oh how I long for those days of summer when I could go walking and swimming.
So now I am eating on the run or just trying to eat. I come home tired and worst of all I had to go school clothes shopping.
I have never liked clothes shopping.
I have been heavy for ever. I hated to go shopping for clothes. They never fit and I hate clothes.
Last year I did not buy new clothes for school. Instead I just took in my old clothes.
I have lost 70lbs and I have kept it off for over 2yrs. I still have 20lbs to go but I decieded to reward myself this year and buy new clothes. I did wear at the end of the year some of my daughters tops. How surprising my daughters love to shop.
After work on Friday 6:00p I went to the Outlet Mall with my two daughters to get some clothes for school. We went to Ann Taylor. I could not believe it I tried on some of the tops and they fit. I still do not like shopping but at least I know now I can go and at least try on the clothes.
Today I went walking at Estero Llano State Park. The park is just a few miles from my house and I drive by it everyday on my way to work. I love walking there I see something different every time I have been there. I was up very early to watch the meteor shower but only saw a few streak across the sky. I started my walk around 7:00a before the park even opens. The first thing saw a beautiful moth. If anyone know what kind it is I would love to know??
Last night the park had a night walk so maybe it was still hanging out.
I have seen some coyotes (the animal kind) there from a distance in the past today I saw 5 of them. I tried to take a picture but they saw me first and ran.
As you can see the park is an oasis of beauty in this hot semi arid area.
There are many different types of birds in the park so I can have a good work out and enjoy watching the birds.
In the summer there are not many people there. So it is very peaceful.Today I thought I would walk around 4 miles in the park and on the levees.
I love walking along the levee because I am above the trees and I can see for miles.
The levee system is to help with the flooding if we have a hurricane. The levees go for miles along the Rio Grande River. The area may look like there is lots of water but these little ponds have the water pumped into them from the river. The birds and animals are near here because of the water.
I walk just a little ways on the levees to the neighboring trailer community . It is about 1/2 mile away. I have seen an alligator a few times in a pond there. Today I was not disappointed.
I am glad I am on a leeve about 10 ft from it. But it is still a wonder to me that people live in a park with a gator right at the door step.
I walked back to the park and thought Wow I was luck to see one alligator maybe I could see the alligators that live in the State park. I went to Alligator pond were the alligators of the State park live. On the way I saw in the ditch a little snake
Again it was my lucky day. Glad it is in the water far away from me.
The park has several different trails the wind around. One can get lost if they do not know the way.
I walk to the pond I looked and look for alligators. My friend Marcy told me there were alligators here. I have tried different times to see the alligators. So after walking the leeves and the park for about 1 1/2 hours I was ready just to sit and wait for alligators. Got to the end of the trail I stood stretching looking out into the water and I did see a little alligator off in the distance. I got out my binoculars and I could see it. I did not take a picture of it was far away and little.
Suddenly I heard a car coming down the path. It was around 8:00a The path to the pond is not very wide and I thought it was unlikely the park maintenance would be working so early on Sunday. I know trouble makers also come to the park to party because I have seen the beer cans but it was around 8:30 a. It was not the park people.
It was a big car with handicapped sign.
They could not back out of the trail. I do not know how they got there. I was a little nervous because I did not know what was going on. I was by myself no one was around except this car. there were 2 older people and they had a handicap sign so hopefully if there was trouble I could out run them. The car kept trying to back out. They could not drive the car backwards at all. At one point they almost backed into the pond. After many tries the car finally got out of the trail and headed on the service road out of the park.
I went to the park office by now it was open. I told the rangers. They said many people get confused and drive onto the paths. One of the rangers went out to check and make sure they were gone. I am glad I had my camera. I got the number to the park to call if I see people again were they should not be. I do not like closer encounters of the human kind.
All and all I really had a great day. It was about a 4 mile walk and the temp was only around 85 do a nice morning. Now home and off to church.
My goal this year was to be 150 at 50.
Well I did not make my goal.
That is ok for me.
This year I am happier and healthier than I have been in a long time.
I am feeling great.
I weigh what I did in High School (OK I was heavy in HS too)
I love to walk. On my birthday someone asked me why I walk so much I told them I want to be just as happy and healthy when I turn 60.
I know that maintaining my body is a full time job.
I started a new school year on Monday. For me that is a NEW YEAR. This is my birthday week a the start of a new year.
So to all of you I hope you will join with me and renewing your New Year resolutions and take care of yourself.
Many states in the United States now have temps. over 90 degrees.
Please be careful. Read the Spark articles about taking care of yourself.
Here are some of the ways I stay cool in South Texas were it is always hot.
1. Drink lots of water
2. Never leave the house without water. You never know if the car will break down.
3. Exercise indoors or before 8am
4. Do not exercise in the heat of the day.
5. Do not walk the dogs in the heat of the day. (they get hot toooo)
6. If I need to be outside in the sun I wear a hat and long sleeves.
7. I wet the sleeves of my shirt to keep me cool.
8. This is the best tip go shopping at Walmart there are lots of cool things there.
Have a cool day. Where are those cold days of winter??? Tell me some cold stories so I can remember when you were shoveling the snow.
Have you ever wanted to meet those people on the Biggest Loser?
Are they real people I mean how did they do it/
This week I have been attending TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) annual convention. This is where I am meeting real people who have lost weight and are keeping it off (KOPS). This week I got to meet my Sparkfriend Mayflowerchick and Texas State Queen.
Now she is a real people and you can read her blog and see how she lost all her weight. She is an inspiration to me and I am so glad I got to meet her in person and not just in cyberspace.
Sometimes it is hard to meet a spark friend. Karen and I planned to get together for a walk but things happen and plans change. I knew I would see her sometime during the day so I was on the lookout for the Texas Queen. Finally in the evening I saw her walk across stage with all the other Kings and Queens.
So today I celebrate knowing my sparkly TOPS friend Karen (Mayflowerchick) someone who inspires me to achieve my weight loss goals.
