The heat is on

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

Many states in the United States now have temps. over 90 degrees.
Please be careful. Read the Spark articles about taking care of yourself.
Here are some of the ways I stay cool in South Texas were it is always hot.
1. Drink lots of water
2. Never leave the house without water. You never know if the car will break down.
3. Exercise indoors or before 8am
4. Do not exercise in the heat of the day.
5. Do not walk the dogs in the heat of the day. (they get hot toooo)
6. If I need to be outside in the sun I wear a hat and long sleeves.
7. I wet the sleeves of my shirt to keep me cool.
8. This is the best tip go shopping at Walmart there are lots of cool things there.

Have a cool day. Where are those cold days of winter??? Tell me some cold stories so I can remember when you were shoveling the snow.

I live in Arizona, so I already follow most of the above listed things. I walk my dog @ abt., 5 A.M. I do however need to get on my rebounder, so I will have to relax for a short time after my walk, & then Jump on my Rebounder, to take off some pounds!!

I talk in rhymes/puns just for fun: L.O.L.

Do you own stock in Walmart?

I try to not be out much in this heat. It was 105 according to my car thermoter today when I did run a couple of errands.

Thanks Becky. Lots of good tips. Remember you can get sunburned in the shade and in the water also.

It is raining here in Oregon. And has been for four days. I wish some of that heat would head over this way.

Meeting a weight loss Queen

Friday, July 08, 2011

Have you ever wanted to meet those people on the Biggest Loser?
Are they real people I mean how did they do it/

This week I have been attending TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) annual convention. This is where I am meeting real people who have lost weight and are keeping it off (KOPS). This week I got to meet my Sparkfriend Mayflowerchick and Texas State Queen.

Now she is a real people and you can read her blog and see how she lost all her weight. She is an inspiration to me and I am so glad I got to meet her in person and not just in cyberspace.

Sometimes it is hard to meet a spark friend. Karen and I planned to get together for a walk but things happen and plans change. I knew I would see her sometime during the day so I was on the lookout for the Texas Queen. Finally in the evening I saw her walk across stage with all the other Kings and Queens.
So today I celebrate knowing my sparkly TOPS friend Karen (Mayflowerchick) someone who inspires me to achieve my weight loss goals.

The annual TOPS convention was amazing. I can hardly wait to go to San Diego next year. I'm glad you got to meet Mayflowerchick. I guess I didn't realize she was Texas State Queen. That is amazing. Thanks for sharing your story.

Guard dogs

Wednesday, June 29, 2011

These are my two guard dogs Max and Violet.
They love to go walking with me but it is just too hot and they wear out after 2 miles.

Since these two get worn out so fast we got another one.

Eggo as you can see she gets worn out quickly too. She is our newest baby.
I hope as she grows she will like to walk with me as much as the other two do.

Now I need to learn how to walk 3 dogs at once. I guess I will keep watching the dog whisper.

Beautiful dogs! Maybe when it cools off a bit they will be up for longer walks. Mine is so tiny, she burns out after a half mile. Poor thing, I ended up carrying her the last time I tried to walk her.

Planting for the future

Sunday, June 26, 2011

When I first moved into my home there were only 2 trees. Now on our 1 acre lot we have over 100 trees. They are beautiful and they grow. I tell my husband we planted for his retirement. Since his retirement he spends every other month cutting and trimming the trees. The dump only takes branches on even numbered months.

So today after church the neighbor calls and says the trees are on the telephone lines and they will not lay internet wire. So with the temp over 90 and the humidity close to 70% we go out to cut branches. I do not use the chainsaw I am the one that picks up the branches and I put them in the truck and trailer. The neighbor came over to help too. After 1 1/2 hrs I was light headed I came in to make lunch. The guys stayed out 1/2hr longer cleaning up.

After the rain there is always alot of cleaning up. For us trimming trees keep my husband and me busy.

hee hee - His retirement plan - too funny! I love trees and always wonder about people who moved onto a wooded lot and then cut them all. emoticon I'm sorry you had to trim branches in such awful weather but hope it's worth it!

Lots of hard work in this heat.
My neighbor (2 doors down)to the right - just bought the
house - and thank goodness started to trim down the
jungle!

I was tempted to ask them to trim that branch hanging
low by my sidewalk - the rain brought it down more.

a few more heavy winds with rain and it will trim itself! emoticon

Make your voice heard

Saturday, June 25, 2011

A few weeks ago I went out to eat with a few of my friends. We went to Cheddar's because we like their Pina Colada's. I asked for the rum on the side because I like the taste of rum but just a taste sometimes they put in tooo much. Also that way I can see how much rum I was drinking. My friend was pregnant so she ordered hers on the side too. The third one was not driving so he was going to add all our rum to his drink.

Anyway the server made a big deal out of it. The manager came to our table and said it was against the law for us to order the rum on the side. The could not serve the Pina's that way. (I was surprised by this because this is how I order them at other resturants)

Anyway this put a damper on a fun evening. I felt so embarassed for speaking up and asking for something off the menu.

That night I went home and email Cheddar's. I used the contact us area. I did not know where this email would go or if anyone would read it.

Well to make a long story longer. Today Saturday I get a call from the district manager saying how sorry he was for the way I was treated. The manager was wrong. I can order my drinks that way. And I got free coupons.

So again do not be afraid you use your voice. Use the power of the email. I you go out to eat and ask for something specially cooked and it does not come that way use your voice and email later how you felt.
Be strong.

It is so hard to speak up sometimes, but always worth it. When my twins were just over a year old, my son got his arm stuck in a sliding door at McDonalds in Harlingen. He was fine, but it could have been bad if my mother-in-law had not been watching and able to stop the door before it pulled his arm out before it went all of the way in (the emergency mechanism that shoudl have sense something being caught and stopped the door from opening further malfunctioned). They made me take him to the ER but refused to pay for the bill. All we wanted was the ER bill paid and for them to change the door so no one else got hurt, no extra money (like the spilled coffee woman). Long story short, my husband called the 800 number on the cup and they paid the bill and changed the door within a week. To my knowledge, no other child has been hurt walking into that McDonalds.
