Make your voice heard

Saturday, June 25, 2011

A few weeks ago I went out to eat with a few of my friends. We went to Cheddar's because we like their Pina Colada's. I asked for the rum on the side because I like the taste of rum but just a taste sometimes they put in tooo much. Also that way I can see how much rum I was drinking. My friend was pregnant so she ordered hers on the side too. The third one was not driving so he was going to add all our rum to his drink.

Anyway the server made a big deal out of it. The manager came to our table and said it was against the law for us to order the rum on the side. The could not serve the Pina's that way. (I was surprised by this because this is how I order them at other resturants)

Anyway this put a damper on a fun evening. I felt so embarassed for speaking up and asking for something off the menu.

That night I went home and email Cheddar's. I used the contact us area. I did not know where this email would go or if anyone would read it.

Well to make a long story longer. Today Saturday I get a call from the district manager saying how sorry he was for the way I was treated. The manager was wrong. I can order my drinks that way. And I got free coupons.

So again do not be afraid you use your voice. Use the power of the email. I you go out to eat and ask for something specially cooked and it does not come that way use your voice and email later how you felt.
Be strong.

It is so hard to speak up sometimes, but always worth it. When my twins were just over a year old, my son got his arm stuck in a sliding door at McDonalds in Harlingen. He was fine, but it could have been bad if my mother-in-law had not been watching and able to stop the door before it pulled his arm out before it went all of the way in (the emergency mechanism that shoudl have sense something being caught and stopped the door from opening further malfunctioned). They made me take him to the ER but refused to pay for the bill. All we wanted was the ER bill paid and for them to change the door so no one else got hurt, no extra money (like the spilled coffee woman). Long story short, my husband called the 800 number on the cup and they paid the bill and changed the door within a week. To my knowledge, no other child has been hurt walking into that McDonalds.

Everyday I think if I am going to be healthy or not.
Everyday I am given a calories and I choose how to spend them.
I am an intelligent person.

I got up early and walked on the treadmill for 3 miles.
Oatmeal pancakes for breakfast.
For lunch I went with the family to buy a new computer for my oldest daughter. It was near 12:00 so I knew we would go out to eat. I took my salad dressing because I decided that I was going order a salad anywhere we went out to eat at.
Chick Fil A chicken salad 180 cals. Vinaigrette dressing 140 cals per serving 2 servings per packet. My dressing 40 cals per serving.

Supper I went to my sister in laws to visit and she ordered a botana.
Tortilla chips, beans, cheese, fajitas more cheese. I told her I had to go home to eat with my husband.
Chris had given me a great idea to make homemade pizza using tortillas.
2 pizzas on flour tortillas 500 cals. Yum O
Today I spent my calories right.
Today I lived in my calories
Today I am one step closer to my goal.

Teachers are so Good at Planning.
You have to be in that profession, so I admire your thinking Ahead. I need to do better at that.
just for the record, do you have WENDY'S restaurants there?
The new Summer salad BERRY ALMOND SALAD/w ALMONDS, with grilled chicken.
I gave it an "A" I eat a full one and its total is Under 500
calories.
I think thats why Nutri Systems worked for me, because it was already packaged and you picked what you ate that whole day.
Planning would also make my DH happy, he wouldn't be asking....Whats for dinner??
I wish he would cook too.
Come visit us on the chat, would love to hear from you :)

Walking and Sparking

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

Manytimes I feel like I just do not have enough time. I am sure many of you feel the same way. I want to enjoy and read the wonderful articles on Sparkpeople but I just do not have time. I want to walk on my treadmill but how can I do both.

Yesterday I add boards to my treadmill so now I can Spark, walk and watch the TV all at the same time. Wow do I enjoy walking on the treadmill now.
In the morning I walked 90 mins and the time just flew by..
I must admit that I am walking at 3.2 miles not very fast but I am enjoying it.

So add spice to your treadmill and try to Spark and Walk.

Bec, I like your innovative spirit! It's wonderful that you discovered a way to do your exercise in such a way that you don't even notice you're getting it done! That's what having an exercise class did for me, BTW.

Save the dust bunnies

Wednesday, June 08, 2011

As a school librarian I have 2 months off in the summer to regain my sanity so I can continue to teach. This summer I have deceided to save the dust bunnies. I have many in my home. They live in the corners of most of the rooms in my house. Some many are under the bed. But this summer I am going to try a science experiment that if I save the dust bunnies what will happen. Will they grow? Will they learn to multiply? or will they just be?

Dear friends
Join me this summer in an effort to save the dust bunnies.

Maybe I need 3 months off to regain my sanity????

Wet t-shirts

Tuesday, June 07, 2011

Ok if you are reading this blog thinking it is going to be about those sexy wet t-shirts you are wrong.

I live in South Texas and I know many parts of the country are having a heat wave. The weather here is normally about 90 so I would like to give some advice about being cool.

Today a friend of mine and I went bike riding. She was wear a long sleeved sweat shirt to keep from getting sunburned. I was wearing a long sleeved t shirt to protect myself from the sun.

Before the ride I told here to get the sleeves or the shirt wet so she would be cool. She thought I was crazy but she did it. I also wet the sleeves of my shirt. The light breeze and the cooling of the shirt as it dried kept us cool as we rode our bikes. She was surprised that she had never thought of this idea. It works.

During this extreme heat keep yourself cool. Use a mister and mist your clothes you will stay cooler.

If you are outside wet the sleeves and the collar and you will stay cooler.

Wear a wet bandana on your head and you will stay cooler.
Be safe drink your water and be cool.

Sunny I like the idea of a banana or bandana with ice cubes. That will really cool you down.

All exellent ideas! If you have a basin large enough to hold your feet comfortably, fill with cool to cold water and soak your feet. If you have indoor ceiling fans, turn them on to create cooling breezes.

Avoid alcoholic beverages, as the alcohol burns off, your body feels hotter! emoticon emoticon

Add a row of ice cubes to a bandana, roll it up and tie it around your neck.
