Recently my daughter had her tonsils out. She has been resting, resting resting but she does need therapy.

She has time therapy animals visit her.

These help keep her clean. They lick her face so she does not need to wash.

If your bed is tooo cold they will be happy to warm it for you.

This is Pepper the therapy cat in training. He is learning how to give cat scans. Soon he will walk over the patient and find the problem.
He is a wonderful sleeper. He will watch you sleep for hours. If you need someone to sleep with you he is excellent at this.

Next we have the therapy ferrets. First we have Girlie anything you drop on the floor she will pick up and hide.
They will jump on you at all hours of the day or night just to make sure you are breathing.
They are great at making you get up and get moving. They love going to the shower with you just to make sure you do not fall.

Sometimes there is problems with the therapy procedures.

So if anyone needs therapy I would be happy to send these trained professionals to your home to get you on your feet again,

    What a great group you have there, always ready to help out. I know first hand how difficult it is when the kids are older and have their tonsils out. Hope your daughter is doing well now.

    They are indeed therapy.
Hope DD gets well soon, my DD was about the same age when she had hers out. The older you are the harder it is they say.

    This is hilarious. I realize now that I have some therapy animals too, Just dogs because they won't let anything else with fur come anywhere near my house or yard. One is serenading me right now from under the table. He cannot sleep quietly because of his bulldog style nose.

Summer already

Friday was the first day of summer. Wow here in South Texas the Temp is always hot. Ok in the winter it is cool. So summer means 100+.

I love walking. I wanted on Friday to walk 10 miles. I woke up and my foot was hurting. I think I pulled something swimming. So Saturday I walked only 8 miles. Still I am proud 8 miles is great. And I can still walk around the house. My foot still hurts but only when I stretch it like a ballerina.

On Friday I went to the health food store and was looking at the Vegetable Protein. I had read an article about the Amazing Grass Shakes. I love trying new things in the summer. I thought maybe protein shakes would be a good fast breakfast when school starts again.
So I looked for the Amazing Grass Protein. I got a sample of some veg. protein. I mixed it with almond milk and a few fresh strawberries. It tastes OK. It reminded me of the days when my mom got me the Shaklee protein drinks. Later in the day I started sneezing. My eyes started to water and I was just sneezing. Oh yea!!! I am allergic to most common grasses. Got some decongestion the sneezing stopped.
Well I guess veg. protein will not work for me.
My friends were right eating grass is not for me.

    Allergies are annoying. I hope you feel better!
I'm having plantar fasciitis issues with my left foot. Keep an "eye" on your pain. I'd hate for you to do more damage if it's something serious like a stress fracture or the like.
I've been putting kale into my smoothies. Here's the recipe: 1/2 c packed kale, 1/2 c plain lowfat yogurt, 1/4 c part skim ricotta cheese, 1 c frozen mixed berries, 1 T ground flax seed, 1/4 t cinnamon, and 1/2 c water. Put is all in a blender and process until smooth. Have a great day!

Walk, Walk, Walk

Yesterday I read the blog 3 labors + 3 babies =50 miles. The author walked 50 miles in one day. I could not believe it. So today I am going to challenge myself to walk 10 miles. Ok not all at one time I am going to split it up. In the morning I got up late so I did not start walking until 10am. It was already 90+. The wind was blowing and there was a nice chop on the bay. The book I was listening to was just getting to the exciting part so walking 6 miles was easy. Tonight I am going to finish the book and try to walk at least 4 more miles. Our local town has movies in the Park. The local hospital sponsors the walk. They raffle prizes to the people that walk around the park. It will still be 90+ but I have rested and hydrated.

Friday my goal is to get up early and maybe get the 10 miles in all together???

Back in the Day

Back in the day I would walk for fun not exercise.
I would bike to my friend's house on sidewalks.
the town had sidewalks.
I could swim at the pool for hours and not be tired.
I could teach swimming, tread water with my arms up and not be tired.
I drank water from the garden hose.

Growing up I was overweight.
I never remember kids making fun of me because I was always running, jumping or playing outside.
I loved to bike ride. I would bike everyday to school or around town.
I would bike to the pool everyday and swim for hours.
I did not play sports in school.
I was more the bookworm which helped me because I am a librarian.

Now I love walking, biking and swimming.
A friend of mine asked me if I was athletic in school. No I just did what kids do play..

Maybe because I did not play sports I am able to enjoy the simple exercises like walking, biking and swimming. I thank GOD my knees, legs and back are still good. A friend of mine has had knee problems. She reminds me that my body is the temple of GOD's and I need to take care of it.

I am sure many of you have back in the day stories.
I am just reminded how important it is to have kids play. I know the playground is a dangerous area. Swings, slides and monkey bars break more bones but kids need to play and run and just have fun.

I did back in the day.

    Oh yes, back in the day. We walked to school in the morning and home in the evening.
We walked home for lunch, weather permitting, and walked back to school. Otherwise we brown bagged it with peanut butter and home made bread.
Recesses were spent outside playing ball.
After supper we ran for outdoors and played. Sometimes played baseball and our dad played with us.
In the afternoon after school we would run and play with our friends. No TV, no sitting around the house (that was punishment)
We worked in the garden raising vegetables, helped mom wash and iron clothing, dusted, mopped, did dishes, etc.

    I remember thinking as a kid of 8 that I didn't understand why all the adults were just sitting and watching, when we were having so much fun playing... at the park especially. I said that I was never going to be like that! And now I find myself at the other end. When did that happen!!!

    The schools were all over town. Neighborhoods. I could ride my bike because it was on the next street. We all rode bikes, roller skated , kick ball, jump roped and hung from the monkey bars.

Update on my weight loss

This year I have been working hard to lose the last 30lbs. At the beginning of the year I cut out some foods that might be making me gain weight. Soy, corn, wheat, eggs, milk, peanuts and most of all sugar. I lost 14 lbs and feel great.

Now the stress of work has been keeping me at a stand still. This is the time of year when we are testing students and as a teacher/librarian I am under more stress than before. Co-workers are stressed out and tempers are short. I want sugar so bad when I am feeling down and tired. Last night I just went to bed when I got home I was so tired and my head hurt so bad.

Usually this is the time of year when I gain back all the weight I have lost. This year I am not going to gain back the weight. I may not lose any more for the next month but I am not going to gain it back. I am exercising and I am going to keep on the diet. Today I am saying to myself remember to write down what you eat. Go to your sparkpage and record the food. Maybe if I tell all of you publicly I will be more accountable to myself.
