Back in the day I would walk for fun not exercise.
I would bike to my friend's house on sidewalks.
the town had sidewalks.
I could swim at the pool for hours and not be tired.
I could teach swimming, tread water with my arms up and not be tired.
I drank water from the garden hose.
Growing up I was overweight.
I never remember kids making fun of me because I was always running, jumping or playing outside.
I loved to bike ride. I would bike everyday to school or around town.
I would bike to the pool everyday and swim for hours.
I did not play sports in school.
I was more the bookworm which helped me because I am a librarian.
Now I love walking, biking and swimming.
A friend of mine asked me if I was athletic in school. No I just did what kids do play..
Maybe because I did not play sports I am able to enjoy the simple exercises like walking, biking and swimming. I thank GOD my knees, legs and back are still good. A friend of mine has had knee problems. She reminds me that my body is the temple of GOD's and I need to take care of it.
I am sure many of you have back in the day stories.
I am just reminded how important it is to have kids play. I know the playground is a dangerous area. Swings, slides and monkey bars break more bones but kids need to play and run and just have fun.
