End of a busy week

Friday, July 27, 2012

I had lunch out today with my mom and a friend; we had a nice time. We went to the Wild Rose Cafe; a local place, nothing fancy, but the food and service are excellent.

I have had somewhere I had to go every day this week, since Sunday. Not complaining, just saying. It's more activity than I've been used too all in one week since I've been on chemo. I'm glad I had the strength to get through this week. I'm also glad that tomorrow, I can just stay home, and not have to set the alarm before I go to bed. Next week won't be so hectic. Church on Sunday, grocery shopping on Monday, chemo and oncologist appointment on Tuesday, and on Saturday, August 4th, a cook out at a friend's house.

We had more rain today, some rain and thunder this morning, and a thunderstorm that popped up around 3:30pm. Nothing severe, just a brief period of heavy rain.

I think that we got some overnight here but not enough to worry about. We're behind around 5 our 6 inches. Maybe more. But I'm glad that you had a good week of rest and relaxation.

At least you had the week off chemo so you could get all of that done. Hopefully you can get some good rest this weekend before your chemo on Tues.

So glad you got to go to the café with your mom and a friend! Like you, I'm maintaining my weight, and going out to eat is one of the high points of my day-to-day life :) Glad you had such a good experience there.

Shari, you really do have a full week included! I'm impressed continually by how much you're able to do despite some pretty demanding medical treatments - kudos! I hope all will go well on Tuesday. The day you go to the cookout, my parents would've been married 67 years. Hard to believe I'm such a geezer emoticon, although I'm "only" (ha, ha, ha) 60. Have a good, restful evening!

Ups and downs this week

Thursday, July 26, 2012

No chemo this Tuesday, this is my "off" week, but I had to go in for lab work. Later that day, a couple of friends came over and mowed the lawn for me, and used a power washer to clean my house. I had some green crud on my siding. It looked so nice when they got done, I forgot how white my siding is when it's clean.

Yesterday wasn't such a good day. I started out feeling ok in the morning, and I went grocery shopping, but my hip and knee were really hurting by the time I got home, which was a little before 10:30am. I took my pain pill, and about an hour later I felt nauseous. I think when I took it, my stomach was too empty at the time; all I had eaten up to that point was just 2 eggs for breakfast. I took my Zofran but it took a long time for it to start working.

Then in the afternoon, I had a sinus headache start, I'm sure it was the weather because we were suppose to have a cold front coming through. It ended up turning into a migraine. I took my Imitrex and it eventually worked on the headache, but I was feeling tired and shaky, so I didn't do much the rest of the day. I laid down for a nap around 4:45pm. I didn't really sleep, but just resting helped. I got up at 7pm and was able to eat a little bit. I spent the rest of evening reading and watching tv. I did notice when I checked my barometer in the evening it had gone down since the afternoon, so it's no wonder the weather triggered a headache. My sciatic pain got worse in the evening too.

It was quiet outside until 11pm, then all of the sudden, the wind started, and I heard something hit the roof; it startled me and I nearly jumped out of my chair. I went to bed after that, but didn't go to sleep right away; I sat in bed reading, with the kitties on the bed with me, and kept the tv on to keep an eye on the weather. We had some heavy rain and some loud booms of thunder. I ended up having to take a sleeping pill, and I think it was close to 1am when I went to sleep.

I went outside right after feeding Timmy and Kallie this morning and checked the roof. There was a tree limb on it, but not a big enough one to cause any damage. I had about 7/10th's of an inch in my rain gauge.

This morning, most of my pain was in my ribs on my left side. I had to wait to take my pain pill though, I had to get Timmy to the vet before 10am for his geriatric exam. It's a special exam my vet does on pets 7 years or older, besides a physical exam he does lab work too. I dropped him off at 9:45am and was told I could pick him up at noon. It seemed like a long wait, I was still tired out from yesterday and it was hard to keep my mind off my side hurting. And even though Timmy showed no signs of illness, it's hard not to worry that something would be found on the lab work. But finally the time came to go pick him up. I didn't have to wait long after I got there. He did great! Everything was in the normal range and his weight is good. I was so glad to get him back home, and glad that I could finally take my pain pill. Feeling better now than I did this morning. Even got my laundry done.

Hey Shari, Your friends are wonderful, so good of them to help you out! Glad to hear Timmy did so well on his geriatric exam!! My cat Molly, will be 17 next month. We found out she has kidney disease last fall, she has special canned food now. She is doing fine so far, her last blood test showed some improvement. I know how you felt waiting to find out about Timmy's exam results. We love our kitties so much, we want to keep them healthy and happy! :) I am sorry you have had pain & nausea Shari. And, I know how painful headaches can be. Glad you are feeling a bit better this afternoon. Hope you have a nice evening my friend.

    emoticon emoticonGood Thursday afternoon, Shari!

So glad to hear this week brings you a break from chemo, with just the blood test to have. What wonderful friends you have, mowing the lawn and cleaning off your siding for you! Friends are that are rare treasures, but I'm sure they'd say the same of you :)

Between the sinus headache, pain and nausea, you still managed a lot. Grocery shopping can be exhausting, can't it? Many don't realize how much that demands of a person and their body when they're not feeling well :( Vet trips, too, are very tiring, but what great news that Timmy, at his age, got such a clean-as-a-whistle bill of health! After everything else - plus the tree limb - that must have been such a happy, welcome relief; it came through in your words :) Pets are family members, after all... I remember our dogs that way. We had four old trees cut down because they were close to the house and not meant to grow large or very old (Bradford pears; they don't produce fruit and get very rangy and brittle with age). It looks very sad and too sunny here now, but we'll be planting some crepe myrtles and a nice little maple soon. First, we have to get the outside of our house re-done next week (shudder)... It's always something, isn't it? Feel better... emoticon

Breakfast out with cousins

Monday, July 23, 2012

I had breakfast at Bob Evan's this morning with my cousin from Massachusetts, and another cousin that she is staying with. My mom and sister joined us too. We had a nice breakfast. It was nice and quiet in the restaurant also, since we came in about mid-morning, after the breakfast rush. We had a nice time. I missed my dad being there. My cousin comes to Michigan once per year, and my dad was her favorite uncle. She did get to see him last summer in the hospital when she was here, we did not know at the time my dad was dying, but he was in very serious condition, so I think she knew at the time it might be the last time.

After that, I went with my cousins to the cemetery so they could see where my dad's stone was.

Very hot and humid here today, I'm glad I didn't make any other plans for today other than breakfast out this morning. I have to remember that even though I don't have chemo this week, I have to pace myself. Still have other things that need to get done this week, including lab work tomorrow, groceries sometime this week, taking Timmy to the vet Thursday for shots and a check up, and lunch out with friends on Friday. I normally don't plan all that activity within the same week, but that's just how things happened.

The weekend

Sunday, July 22, 2012

It's been an ok weekend so far, was really hurting a lot all over yesterday, but feeling better today. Made it to church this morning. It was a nice service but too warm in there today. I was glad to get back home and into the air conditioning. It's another hot one here.

Still working on my hats, last week I finished 8 baby hats and 4 adult.

One of my cousins, who is in the area visiting from Massachusetts, called me after I got home today. She wants to meet for breakfast tomorrow with my mom and sister, so we are going to Bob Evans. I'm glad I'm off from chemo this week, so I can do my usual Monday morning grocery shopping another day. It's going to be very hot tomorrow again, so even if my cousin weren't in town, it would be better to do my shopping another day anyway.

I'm glad to hear you're in less pain today :) There is nothing like pain to completely sap a person of all of their energy and make concentration difficult, or such has been my experience. Glad you've got good, powerful air conditioning in this heat!

WOW...are you making quick progress with those hats! Wish I could still make them. I lost my patterns...and it's been years. I've forgotten what all the abbreviations mean. I'll bet the baby ones you make are really adorable!

So glad your cousin's there! Glad you're getting a break from chemo so that you can enjoy her visit, too. Stay cool.

Much cooler today, loving it

Thursday, July 19, 2012

Not sure if that cortisone injection I had yesterday is working yet or not; woke up with a little stiffness in my neck, maybe some temporary inflammation from the shot? I know that can happen with some of the injections I get for my hips and lower back. My shoulder wasn't hurting at first, but my elbow was. Maybe the cortisone hasn't worked its way all the down yet. My shoulder did start to hurt later in the morning and I had to take a pain pill at 11am, but still doing better than I was yesterday.

Feeling a little light-headed today also, I think it's from the chemo, since I feel I had enough sleep, and it started before I even took my pain pill today. Not concerned about it though, since I am just staying home today anyway. It didn't keep me from getting the laundry done, or getting the chicken and ground turkey I bought on sale yesterday packaged up for the freezer.

It's been cloudy all day, much cooler, with a little rain too. As of 3pm, it was only up to 68°F. It was actually a little chilly in my house the first part of the day, I had to put one of my zip up hoodie jackets on. But I am not complaining, I love the cooler weather and it saves me some money without the AC running today.

I hear your refreshing, cooler weather is slowly wending its way southward, and we should get a decent dose of it here in no. VA by Sat.! Temps will once again start climbing here after that, though - but that's par for July/August in this part of the world. So glad you got a break up there, though! You shouldn't have these bake-oven temps where you are :(

Sometimes cortisone shots have a delayed pain-control effect, or at least that's what a few people I know who've had them have told me. I hope that will prove to be the case for you, too, Shari... it's terrible to have aching arms and shoulders, I know. Kind of gets and sustains your attention, unfortunately.

Just took my stroll around the block and it was oppressively muggy, even with the sun completely down - ugh! Much better than when I was out at lunch midday, though - we were BROILING! Keep cool! emoticon

Just catching up on blogs over the past few've had quite a week, Shari. I hope the cortisone injection will help with the shoulder and arm pain. You already have enough to deal with on account of the back, hip and sciatica pain. Glad you have it a bit cooler now, and you could get your shopping done. Take care and I hope you feel better!
