Tired again today, but happy about a win

Sunday, March 18, 2012

Even though I slept pretty well last night, I was still too tired to try to make it to church this morning. My allergies are adding to my chemo fatigue, they aren't really making me sick, just leaving me feeling "drained". And I suspect my hemoglobin is going down again. I thought it would be best just to stay home and rest today. I've already learned the hard way not to push myself when my fatigue is at a certain level. I'll find out what my blood counts are when I go for chemo on Tuesday; they always do lab work before they start my treatment.

I am hoping by tomorrow or Tuesday I will have the appointment times set for my scans. Those have been on my mind too; I'm anxious to find out if there is something besides just the chemo making me feel so crappy lately. And no, the scans are not going to show that I am "cured"; there is no cure for my type of cancer. The best results would be that things are stable.

I did get some happy news this morning. I belong to GoodReads.com, a site where you can track the books you read, and discuss them with other readers. They also have a lot of book giveaways. I got an email that I won a copy of Why Aren't You Sweet Like Me? by Carrie Nyman. It sounds like a good one! I can't wait to get it and start reading it. If you want to know what the book is about, you can look it up on Amazon.

I'm very glad that I am such a book lover; reading helps me to stay sane when I can't get out and do much. I've read 27 books so far this year.

Good news on winning the book, Shari. Resting up sure sounds like the best idea. So sorry you have been feeling so icky - I hope you can get some answers and treatment that can help you feel better. You have my sympathy, even without the cancer it's been a rough road - glad you are able to get pleasure out of reading when you can't get out. Take care - I am thinking of you.

I love to read also. Last weekend when I was not feeling well I read two books. I just finished re-reading a series of books and am looking forward to getting back to using my Nook. I have several books waiting for me there.

Hope you are feeling less fatigue.

Just because we can't be 'cured' doesn't mean we can't live the best we can. you and I both know this, and I think both of us will continue doing all we can for as long as we can. You inspire me to keep going and keep trying, so thank you for that.

It's awesome to win anything, isn't it? But winning something you want and will enjoy makes it even better! I hope it's a great book and you thoroughly enjoy it!

Hey Shari, Sounds like a good day to take it easy and rest! Congratulations on winning the book!! I read the reviews, and it sounds like a great book! I always encouraged our children to enjoy reading books! We visited the Library every week, and also bought books from the bookstore. And now, I have the opportunity to do the same with our grandchildren! Reading is a wonderful way to escape!
Praying for you my friend.

Another feline friend

Saturday, March 17, 2012

I slept better last night, but still dealing with chemo fatigue. My seasonal allergies are starting to kick in too, so even though it's a beautiful day, I'm staying inside.

Feeling a little light headed today, so I've been staying off my feet most of the day. Just puttering around the house a little bit, and I did a Sit and Be Fit workout.

I have another kitty that has been hanging around in my yard, he (or she?) is very friendly, though if Neighbor Cat is out there at the same time, they hiss at each other. This cat is also a poloydactal, meaning he has extra toes on his front paws, giving the appearance of "mitten" feet. I took some pictures of him this morning, though it wasn't easy, he would not stay still, lol! He just wanted to rub up against my legs and be petted.

In this photo, he was looking in at Timmy who was sitting in the window perch.

Awww he looks so similar to my childhood cat Fizzer. Looks like a sweetie. I love Polys! When I volunteer at my local shelter, there is a surprising number of them.

What a pretty kitty!! Wonder if she has a home and just came to visit or if she's home shopping?! I feel so special when a different cat comes over and lets me touch it. Had one for about a year and I helped him get well from an infected tongue so he could eat! ( Got med from vet) Anyway, neighbors cats come calling sometimes, too just for a love and a purr.
Hope you'll be feeling better soon. emoticon

Additional felines along with allergies - yep - that sounds about right! We keep getting a siamese/??? mixed cat in called Lilly - she has a total addiction to our home. Her owners don't have a cat flap, so when the children go to school and the adults go to work she is LOCKED OUT all day... I don't know if you know this, but Siamese and such cats who have pale fur suffer dreadfully from the cold - last year she spent so much time being locked out we hardly recognised her as she had turned dark brown! Poor thing - and yes we let her in during the day hours - I swear she would stay here all the time given the chance. I too have some allergies arriving along with a slight cold - one of those on/off ones - just annoying! Please rest up, and enjoy your cats love!

You must be a great fur mommy - more keep finding their way to you! I know you have the little house outside for Neighbor Cat, so are you considering doing another one for the new cat? Though it seems this one might have an owner, if s/he keeps coming around they won't want to share a house.

A lazy Friday

Friday, March 16, 2012

Didn't feel very good last night with chemo side effects, and didn't sleep well either.
I tried to sleep in, but I just couldn't relax, so I got up at 9:30am.

Just taking it easy it today, and planning an early bedtime and hopefully a better day tomorrow.

Another beautiful day, got the outdoor furniture out

Thursday, March 15, 2012

Didn't sleep that well last night. It seems like when the seasons change, my hot flashes flare up around the same time, so I kept waking up because I was too warm. I may have to start using the central air at night.

Despite being tired, I got my outdoor furniture out of the shed and on my porch. Even with the fatigue, it feels good to know I accomplished something useful today. It's in the mid 70's here, and it was a good day to do it before the pollen starts to get bad and I have to stay indoors. I don't think I've ever gotten my yard furniture out this early before. Hopefully there will be some nice days to sit outside and read before the pollen starts in full force.

I also did a Sit and Be Fit workout. That's about it for the day, just going to take it easy with what's left of it. Looking forward to Big Bang, Grey's, and Private Practice tonight, and then I should be ready to go to bed and sleep.

Good job, Shari! I always hear you talk about the sit and be fit, so today I did the desk chair workout with Coach Nichole:)
My legs ache all the time now, so I quit exercising, but I thought why not try a "sit and be fit" and sure enough, they have them here on SP!
Thanks for the inspiration:)

Long day of appointments yesterday

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

My first appointment of the day was with my oncologist. I told him about my increasing pain in my right hip, and also that I am having nausea more often, so he decided it's time for another bone scan and also a CT scan. I'm waiting for a call for those appointments, since the CT scan has to be approved by my insurance first.

Then I had my lab work, my 2 hour Aredia infusion, Zometa through the IV, then my chemo. Got done just in time to get to my appointment at the pain clinic at 2:30pm. I had 3 injections; one in each hip and one near my spine. It was a bit of a wait in between seeing my doctor and getting the injections, as there were 2 other patients ahead of me getting injections. The sedatives they gave me made me very tired, which is why I didn't blog after I got home yesterday. I got home around 4pm.

I've already noticed a difference in my right hip. Usually I wake up around 5am feeling like I've slept on rocks, even if I'm not laying on my right side, but I didn't have that pain this morning. I slept in a little bit, til 9am. Maybe it will help with my fatigue if I am not waking up so early in the morning because of the pain. My left hip is still hurting a bit but it usually takes a few days for those injections to fully start working.

The weather is beautiful today, it's 75F right now. I was out in the yard for a few minutes looking around and all kinds of plants and flowers are shooting up. My crocuses are open too.
