A lazy Friday

Friday, March 16, 2012

Didn't feel very good last night with chemo side effects, and didn't sleep well either.
I tried to sleep in, but I just couldn't relax, so I got up at 9:30am.

Just taking it easy it today, and planning an early bedtime and hopefully a better day tomorrow.

Another beautiful day, got the outdoor furniture out

Thursday, March 15, 2012

Didn't sleep that well last night. It seems like when the seasons change, my hot flashes flare up around the same time, so I kept waking up because I was too warm. I may have to start using the central air at night.

Despite being tired, I got my outdoor furniture out of the shed and on my porch. Even with the fatigue, it feels good to know I accomplished something useful today. It's in the mid 70's here, and it was a good day to do it before the pollen starts to get bad and I have to stay indoors. I don't think I've ever gotten my yard furniture out this early before. Hopefully there will be some nice days to sit outside and read before the pollen starts in full force.

I also did a Sit and Be Fit workout. That's about it for the day, just going to take it easy with what's left of it. Looking forward to Big Bang, Grey's, and Private Practice tonight, and then I should be ready to go to bed and sleep.

Congrats on getting the outdoor furniture out! One of the sweetest things about spring is sipping morning coffee (or tea) outside and listening to the love songs of birds.

Do you have a ceiling fan? I do and now that the hot flashes seem to be here to stay, I couldn't live without it! Maybe something to consider. Hope you start getting some good sleep in soon!

Good job, Shari! I always hear you talk about the sit and be fit, so today I did the desk chair workout with Coach Nichole:)
My legs ache all the time now, so I quit exercising, but I thought why not try a "sit and be fit" and sure enough, they have them here on SP!
Thanks for the inspiration:)

Hey Shari, I am so glad you can sit outside now to read, Now, you can soak up the sunshine and enjoy the early spring we've been blessed with this year. That is a big job getting out the outdoor furniture! I had to turn on our ceiling fan last night and only used a lightweight blanket. I am looking forward to my Thursday night shows too! :)

Have a nice evening my friend. Sounds like you will be plenty tired tonight. Hope you have a good rest and sweet dreams!

Long day of appointments yesterday

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

My first appointment of the day was with my oncologist. I told him about my increasing pain in my right hip, and also that I am having nausea more often, so he decided it's time for another bone scan and also a CT scan. I'm waiting for a call for those appointments, since the CT scan has to be approved by my insurance first.

Then I had my lab work, my 2 hour Aredia infusion, Zometa through the IV, then my chemo. Got done just in time to get to my appointment at the pain clinic at 2:30pm. I had 3 injections; one in each hip and one near my spine. It was a bit of a wait in between seeing my doctor and getting the injections, as there were 2 other patients ahead of me getting injections. The sedatives they gave me made me very tired, which is why I didn't blog after I got home yesterday. I got home around 4pm.

I've already noticed a difference in my right hip. Usually I wake up around 5am feeling like I've slept on rocks, even if I'm not laying on my right side, but I didn't have that pain this morning. I slept in a little bit, til 9am. Maybe it will help with my fatigue if I am not waking up so early in the morning because of the pain. My left hip is still hurting a bit but it usually takes a few days for those injections to fully start working.

The weather is beautiful today, it's 75F right now. I was out in the yard for a few minutes looking around and all kinds of plants and flowers are shooting up. My crocuses are open too.

Followup with cardiologist today

Monday, March 12, 2012

It's been a rainy day most of the day; both my legs and hips are feeling achy today. I slept in a little morning and it still took me a long time to feel fully awake, but the fatigue got a little better late in the afternoon.

I had my followup appointment with the cardiologist today. He wanted to make the sure the chemo and my elavated heart rate weren't damaging my heart. My heart echo looked great, and I don't have to see him again unless I am having problems.

About an hour after I got home we had our first thunderstorm of the season. They issued a severe thunderstorm warning but it wasn't much of a storm; not much thunder, just some wind and heavy rain. It moved in and out pretty fast. We might get some more storms tonight though.

It's a beautiful day, but I've got the blues

Sunday, March 11, 2012

I'm not really sure why, but I am feeling blue today. Maybe it's the fatigue from the chemo; having to set the clocks ahead certainly isn't helping with it either. I didn't get enough sleep last night but I have to blame myself for part of it; I got involved in a really good book and stayed up reading later than I usually do. Feeling kind of achy all over too. I'm also really missing my dad today.

I feel kind of guilty for not enjoying this spring-like day as I should. It's sunny, and it's almost 60F. I spotted 2 robins in my yard this morning. It should be a joyous day, but I'm just not feeling it today.

I went to church this morning, it was a nice service. I noticed the attendance seemed down a bit so I am wondering if there were people who forgot to set their clocks ahead.

I'm taking the day off exercise today; I just got into my pjs when I got home. Hoping to get some good sleep tonight so I am rested for the next two days. I have my followup appointment with the cardiologist tomorrow, and Tuesday I see my oncologist, have chemo, and also see my pain specialist. I will be glad when Wednesday is here and I can just stay home.

In your case it will be TGIW - thank goodness it's Wednesday! Hope that you'll be feeling better soon. Isn't it great about the robins?! I always miss them during the winter but the weather has been so mild that I think they hung around because I don't remember NOT seeing them this winter!

Sweetie, I think you're gonna snap out of it as quick as it came. You have a few things working to make you tired, so maybe once you can get a good "nothing but rest" day (except maybe a little walk on your own terms) you feel a great bit better! Sending restful, happy vibes your way!! emoticon

No need to be hard on yourself for having a blue day Shari. They strike out of the blue from time to time and all we can do is just be with it, despite things like it being a beautiful day...and grief is not a linear process, so missing your Dad at different times is only natural. It sounds like a great idea to treat yourself gently and relax in your pjs. All the best for the appointment tomorrow.

Sorry you had a blah day. Just because it is sunny doesn't mean you should be dancing among the flowers. There are no shoulds when it comes to how we think we should be feeling. Listen to your body and go with the flow. You know what's best.
I know what you mean about the good book. It is a failing of mine. Just one more chapter....

You are not alone Shari. Today has been a blue day for me too. I still miss my dad, and he passed away over 30 years ago. Someday we will see them again, and it will be so great. Let's hope and pray we feel better tomorrow. The time change always seems to take me a few days to adjust to. I do enjoy the extra daylight!

The human body enjoys consistency, so having the time change AND having the weather change so dramatically will throw anyone off. I didn't sleep well last night either but I had a good day planned today (a work friend I haven't seen in 2 months came to visit). If it wasn't for the visit (and anticipation of the visit) I probably would be quite down too.

I hope tomorrow looks better for you and you can find some wonderful things to smile about.

One thing I've noticed over the years is that whenever the seasons really start to change, I get sad. I don't know if it's the hidden memories of so many other springs or just the knowledge that the wheel of the year has taken another lurch forward into unknown territory (and further away from people and situations we miss), but the first spring days are the worst. Then, just for good measure, I throw in a tablespoon or so of guilt, because it's so nice out and I'm not enjoying it.

Spring kind of segues into summer without notice, but the first beautiful crisp fall day and the first real winter snowfall get me, too. I don't really connect with human declarations like seasonal decorations or whatever - just the natural world.

I am so sorry you're "down" today. It's OK. You deal with a lot on a daily basis and it's bound to catch up with you at some point. I'm missing my dad a ton today too. I'm wondering if it's the beautiful spring like day that makes me think of him? Take care of yourself. Allow yourself some blue time and then up and at 'em again.
