It's in the 50's again today, but feels colder than yesterday; it's windy and we haven't had much sun today. I didn't go out for a walk today because with the wind it would be too easy for me to end up with a sinus headache. My hip is feeling better today, but I thought I still shouldn't push it with doing a cardio workout today, so I worked out with my stability ball instead.

I forgot to mention something in my blog yesterday. When I was going into my oncologist's office Tuesday, I noticed a woman wearing one of the chemo hats that I had made and donated to the cancer resource center here a long time ago; it made me feel good to see her wearing that!

The hat! That is so neat! I would have wanted to go up to her and grill her--why did you choose that one; how often do you wear it; what other ones do you have; what makes this one so great. Plus I would want to go out and make a bunch more. Good for you!

emoticon Happy St. Patrick's Day Shari!!

Sounds like you have had a good day. Maybe tomorrow will be sunny and warm enough to get out for a walk.

I have been going to Physical Therapy, and the therapist gave me some exercises to do with my stability ball. They are not too difficult, like some of the DVD's I have seen for working out on a stability ball. I enjoy working out with my ball.

That is so cool to actually see someone wearing one of the hats you made!! :)

Take good care,
Nancy

Found out yesterday why I have been so tired

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Before I can get my chemo, they check my CBC, and send it over to the lab. I have to wait til they get the results back before they can start the chemo. This time, it came back that my hemoglobin was quite low; not low enough to need a transfusion, but enough to increase my fatigue. Now I know why I have been so extremely tired the last few days. They also called the lab and had them check my B12 and iron, but I don't have those results yet.

Had a "sick to my stomach" feeling for a few hours last night after the chemo, and around 6:30am this morning, but my biggest problem today is still the arm/shoulder and the sciatica pain. I slept in til 10am today; with my low blood counts, I decided that with the fatigue, I am going to sleep as long as I need to sleep and not feel guilty about it. One of the reasons I quit working was because of the fatigue from my treatments, so I have not reason not to take advantage of that and rest when I need to.

It's 50F and sunny today! Just had to get out for a walk. My hip was feeling stronger today, but I used my cane anyway, just to be on the safe side. I haven't used it since I had the radiation to my hip for the 2nd time towards the end of 2009, and even then, I didn't really use it enough to get use to it. I had to walk slower with it, it took me 14 minutes to walk the same distance I normally walk in 10. I did not take my MP3 player this time. I wanted to concentrate on using the cane the correct way, and anyway, it was nice just to listen to the birds today. It was also nice to wear sneakers out instead of my winter boots!

Shari, something to think about (and ask your physical therapist
about) I have read several articles about using 2 canes to improve your balance & prevent increased stress on the opposite joint. Similar to pole walking.

Sorry to hear you are feeling so tired but at least you know why. Also glad to hear you will rest as much as you need to, listening to your body is good.
Getting out in the sun is always good. They keep promising us sun here but only a faint glimmer so far.
Take care emoticon

  Shari,
I just wanted to share something about Navelbine that I've gone through in case it is helpful to you. When I first started on it in Feb 2010 it seemed to drop my hemoglobin down more than it does now. My hbg was down below 10 a few times and it made me feel tired too. Anymore my hbg is doing much better. Yesterday it was 11.2. It seems like my hgb has slowly gotten better as I've been on Navelbine longer. I hope that the same thing will happen to you. Have a good day. I am thinking of you.

Glad you were able to get out for a walk, even though you used the cane. Sometimes it helps you feel better knowing it is there 'just in case'. Getting out in some warmer fresh air should help all of us feel a little better after this long, wet winter.

In pain today

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

Doing my Sparking a little early today; I have chemo at 2:30pm and don't plan to be on the computer after I get home. By that time, it will be time for dinner, then I will get into my pjs and spend the evening in front of the tv with my heating pad, and plan to work on my cross stitch too. I missed being able to work on that last night, but I was so tired, I knew if I did try it, I'd probably end up making mistakes in it.

I got some good sleep last night, and my GP symptoms are a lot better, but still having a lot of pain with the arm and shoulder, and my hip and knee on the sciatica side. I tried to do my Leslie Sansone Power Mile workout this morning but had to stop after 10 minutes. I took a second pain pill about a half hour ago, hoping it will kick in and start working so that it's not hard for me to sit through my treatment. It's making me a little sleepy, but that's ok; I have someone driving me to my appointment.

I have been on the Keppra for the nerve pain for a week now; I can't see that it is helping at all, but since it doesn't have any bad side effects, I am going to at least finish up my 30 day prescription.

Did the doctor say how long it would take for the Keppra to work? Some medications don't do much for the first few days or weeks. Hopefully it will give you some relief by the end of the 30 day supply!

So sorry to hear you have had so much pain today. I hope your chemo treatment goes well and the pain pill keeps you comfortable. I just finished steam mopping my kitchen floor! I seem to always think about you when I use my new steam mop. haha! It sure does a great job, my floor is nice and clean now! The weather here has been dreary with rain off and on since yesterday.
Praying for you,

Blah Monday

Monday, March 14, 2011

Not feeling so good today, hip and leg are still hurting from the sciatica, and my gastroparesis has flared up, so I am having some stomach pain today. Feeling sleepy from my pain pill too. Sure wish I felt better today; it's almost 40F, it would be a great day for a walk; I don't mind walking when I am tired, but my leg on the sciatica side is feeling a little weak today.

I got out for my groceries this morning, thankfully it was a quick trip because I didn't need very much this week; I was back home by 10am.

I did a short workout with the stability ball.

My chemo isn't until 2:30pm tomorrow, and it's supposed to be a little warmer, almost 50F. I am hoping I will be feeling strong enough to go for a walk before my treatment.

2 more projects finished

Sunday, March 13, 2011

I finished my needlepoint project last night; it's not perfect, but it was my first try at doing this kind of needlework. I had a little trouble getting the cat's eyes and mouth to look right, the instructions were not very clear on that. I still need to get a frame for it; once I get it in a frame it won't look so wrinkled.

Tonight I plan on starting a counted cross stitch picture, something I have done before. Last night I sorted and organized all the floss colors in the kit; anyone that has ever done a cross stitch from a kit before knows that that can be a job in itself, lol!

I sewed my other pair of pajama pants today. My next project will be a new top for spring. I already cut the pattern out for that a few weeks ago.

Did not do a workout today; feeling kind of sore all over, I think I may have overdid it with my activity yesterday. Sometimes it's hard to pace myself when I am having a good day, there are so many things I want to do that I keep going even after I shouldn't. Really feeling bone pain in both my hips today too; when I sit, it feels like I am sitting right on the bones. In fact, I had to get a pillow to sit on for the chair I was sitting on to use the sewing machine. I'm sure the pain is coming from the bone mets.

Trying to decide what day I want to do my grocery shopping. I usually go on Monday, because my chemo is on Tuesday, usually in the morning, but this week my chemo is at 2:30pm, so I I have my choice this week of either tomorrow morning or Tuesday morning. I guess I will just get my shopping list and coupons ready and decide how I feel when I get up in the morning.

I hope you have another good day soon....I'm holding you in the light dear friend of mine! You're delightful!
