Only had time for a short walk today. It ended up being 0.9 mile, but has large hills. I walked to the cemetery. November is a special month for Catholics to pray for the deceased. Our cemetery here in my small town has Gingko trees. The leaves look like fans and I gathered some for my kids on my walk. A very peaceful walk for my mind, challenging due to the hills for my body.

It's another sunny day here in western Iowa, so I went outside for my workout. I was able to get in a longer walk/jog since I don't have to work tonight. I went four miles in 67 minutes: 0.5 mile walk, 0.75 mile jog, 0.75 mile walk, 1 mile jog, 1 mile walk.
I took a look at my mileage tracker today. I love tracking my miles. This includes walking, jogging, bicycling, and elliptical. On the elliptical, I look at how fast I've gone and calculate the equivalent miles from walking or jogging. My elliptical mileage is way off. A lot of times, 30 min on the elliptical equals around 2 miles or a 15 min mile by my calculations.
This year I have traveled 522 miles on foot, and that's just my exercise miles. That doesn't include just walking around all day. Here are some interesting distances to put this in perspective: (from my town)
to Chicago, IL-461 miles
to St. Louis, MO- 454 miles
to Twin Cities-372 miles
to Denver, CO- 563 miles
to Kalamazoo, MI-591 miles (I have relatives up there)
All the little 10 minute + walks and jogs have added up over the year!

It's another sunny day here in Iowa. It's also a little less windy than yesterday. I went for a walk/jog today. Thankfully, my shins felt great and there were no ownerless dogs to bother me on my trek.
0.5 mile walk/0.75 mile jog/0.25 mile walk
Total time of 25 minutes.
It felt good to get outside today. I didn't sleep well last night, and had to nap after everyone left for work and school. I feel pretty good right now. Getting outside always boosts my mood.

Today has been a great day so far! I actually slept through the night. I believe it was seven straight hours of sleep. That never happens. I usually wake up at least once. I stayed up, no nap, and got a lot of things done: the checkbook, adding money to the kids' lunch accounts, sparking, facebook, laundry, exercising. It's a sunny day, so I got outside for some of my workout. And now, I've earned the level 16 trophy!
For my workout today I started with a 1.5 mile walk/jog: 0.5 mile walk, 0.5 mile jog, 0.5 mile walk. I would have continued that pattern, but there were unattended dogs on my route. I came inside and did 10 min on the elliptical to finish my cardio. After that I did some crunches and stretching. My workout points were the ones that put me over the edge for the next trophy!

Part of what made last week so busy was that my two oldest boys, Mikey (16) and Patrick (14) were both in the high school play, "Life with Father." Mikey only had a cameo appearance as Dr. Somers. Patrick played Whitney, the son who was studying his catechism. The performances were Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The play went really well. Patrick had some great one liners. In the story, it turns out that the dad has never been baptized, and the mom tries to convince him that he needs to be baptized. Patrick's character, while studying his catechism, says to his father, "Is that why you're angry all the time... you're a child of wrath?" I could see Pat trying not to laugh at his own line. I have to say I wish they had re-written the father's lines. He swore a lot. Families go to these plays to see their children, and they bring their other children. I think it's more creative to re-write the swearing than to keep swearing, over and over. I kept telling my seven year olds, "Don't you EVER talk like the dad in this play." I'm really proud of both boys. Mikey persevered through many of the rehearsals, even though he only had one line. Patrick did a great job, and is looking more comfortable on stage. He was very expressive too.
My workout today will be the elliptical. I have MOUNTAINS of laundry to catch up. I already did five loads on Friday and Saturday to start catching up. The baskets are all over flowing. I've still got three baskets to fold from the weekend, and have started with tackling the mountain. If you didn't read my blogs last week, my dryer was out due to electrical issues. We discovered the 220 plug was attached to 110 wiring. We've been lucky the last 13 years that we didn't burn down the house. Well, I'd better get back to it. I'll update later to say how long I did on the elliptical.
I ended up doing 30 min on the elliptical, stretching and doing some crunches.
