Day 330-Elliptical

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

Too much mom stuff to catch up and not enough time to do it! I only had time for 10 minutes on the elliptical today. It felt difficult at first, but at the end I wished I had more time. I could have done at least 30 minutes on it. Tomorrow I won't have such time constraints, so we'll see what I manage to accomplish then.

Glad that you were able to get through a workout even with the time constraints. Have a great evening!

Good job, Chris. Hope work goes well for you tonight. We had a decent night last night so I'm hoping it continued. The service tech got to our house around 8am. He has to order a part (hopefully fully covered by the waranty) so I'm not sure when he'll be back. The great thing is I didn't even have to pay for the service call this morning. Wow!! Of course, he's coming back and will get paid then.

Day 329-Walk/jog

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

It's a cloudy, kind of foggy day here in my small town. I decided to get outside anyway for a jog. It boosts my spirits to get outside, even on cloudy days, since I've been working so many hours lately. My shins gave me trouble again, so I did a long walk in the middle of my routine to try to help. It did, and my shins felt much better on my second jogging stint. Here's my breakdown:

0.25 mile walk
0.75 mile jog
1 mile walk
0.75 mile jog
0.25 mile walk

Total jogging time: 21:03 (14 minute mile)
Total walking time: 28 minutes (18.7 minute mile)

My walking time was slower than I like, but I was dealing with trying to loosen up my shins.

Last night was parent/teacher conferences. All in all, everything went fine. We had only 2 C's out of the whole bunch. I've spoken with all the teachers and gotten good reports on all the kids. The boy with the C's is capable of improving, he just needs to do the extra work, and ask for help when needed. We've had this talk before, so it's no surprise. Mikey's music teacher is excited about the opportunity to keep working with him over the next couple of years with his voice. She said that his voice, and the voices of the two girls that he auditioned with blend well together. Sometimes great voices don't blend well. She's going to have them all work together over the next year, and perform together at the school concerts. She expects that they will "blow us away" with their performances. They will audition again for All-State next year, so this year was a great learning experience for them all.

Days 327 & 328 Walks with hubby!

Monday, October 22, 2012

Yes! You read that right! I got hubby outside two days straight for walks. Yesterday was absolutely gorgeous, around 80 degrees. I was stuck working inside all day, so when I got home, I couldn't wait to get outside. I did my first 1.5 miles walking and jogging: 0.5 mile walk, 1 mile jog, 0.5 mile walk. One shin was bothering me, so I came in the house to grab another walker, and hubby was up for the task. We walked another 1.5 miles. It was so nice to spend time with him. I miss him when I work.

Today (day 328), hubby is working from home. I'm getting caught up on some laundry, bills and other mom stuff. We went for a 40 minute walk together. It's cool, but very humid outside. Hubby made the comment that I wasn't even winded after going up a pretty steep hill. I told him that I've been at this for a few years now, and am used to jogging or walking faster, but that we'll get him in shape too. We joke about getting him into a shape other than round.

Mikey's (16) audition was Saturday. Unfortunately, he did not make the state choir. No one from our small town did. Mikey seemed to think it was pretty unfair. Some of the larger schools had 23 people chosen. I tried to encourage him through the disappointment. He's only a Sophomore. He's got a few more years to audition.

Parent/Teacher conferences are tonight. They take so long that I don't look forward to them, except to hear all the good things they say about my kids. Usually, there's not too much bad. Hubby and I will divide and conquer. He'll get the elementary school kids, and I'll take high school and middle school. I just hope it doesn't take all night.

Wish Mickey's audition would have gone his way. As you say, there's always next year. Great job on getting Brian out TWO days in a row - Ed talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk (literally!).

Conferences - hope all goes well with those. Lots of walking around and waiting if your middle school and high school ones are like ours.

Sorry to hear about the audition. I'm assuming you're talking about All-State? It is a tough, tough thing. It's a lot tougher for instrumentalists since they don't take as many. The thing with the larger schools is that they seem to have more time to prepare (at least it seemed that way when I was teaching - actually had a few vocalists try out one year). Like you said though, he can always try again. Was this his first time auditioning? If so, now he knows what to expect for next year!

Way to go on the walks! Have a great day!

Day 326-Gorgeous day for a walk

Saturday, October 20, 2012

What a beautiful day! I was stuck inside working all day, but at least the pharmacy out here has a window. My Omaha job has no windows. Things seem to be going well at my small town job. I guess I'll find out after the fact if I messed anything up.

After walking home from work, I quickly changed and got outside for my workout. I wanted to walk/jog 3 miles, 2 of if jogging. After the first jogging mile, my shins got really tight. I gathered up Bridget (7) who wanted to go on a walk with me, and we finished my walk together. I was only going to do a total of 2 miles (0.5 with her), but she wanted to go see the horses. That takes us out to my usual turn around spot, a 1.5 mile round trip. So I did complete my 3 miles today, I just walked 2 miles instead of jogging two miles. I also really enjoyed the one-on-one time with Bridget. She didn't even fuss on the way back about her legs hurting. It was a very enjoyable day.

That sounds like fun, Chris. I had an exercise day today with Sarah which made it extra special. Glad work went ok out in Mo. Valley. I'm sure it was a nice change of pace.

Days 323-325 (Catching up a bit here)

Saturday, October 20, 2012

It's been a busy week, but it always seems to be a busy week for me. I'm working some shifts in the hospital in my small town. I haven't worked there since February, so they had me come in on Wednesday to re-train. That went well, and so did my first solo day in a while. I'm working this whole weekend, and it seems pretty slow, so I'm catching up on my Sparking.

Day 323 (Wed)-Since I worked all day, I only had time for 10 minutes on the elliptical when I got home. I don't like to do extensive workouts in the evening. They keep me from sleeping.

Day 324 (Thurs)-Wow! I had lots of mom stuff to catch up. I spent all day doing laundry, dishes, sewing, and cooking. I squeezed in 20 minutes on the elliptical. Lots of kid activities that night, so I ran out of time. I did make ribs again, this time a double batch (16+ lbs) and I used my electric roaster as a giant crock pot. The whole family is raving about my ribs and begging me to make them again. It's hard to believe it's only my second time making ribs.

Day 325 (Fri)-Another work day, so I went for a one mile walk with my daughter. It was colder than we expected outside, or we would have gone a little longer.

I expect today's workout to be similar, a walk or a quick stint on the elliptical. Have a great weekend everyone!

Wow, Chris. Great job on keeping up with your workouts. Have fun working this weekend. Hope you aren't too busy.
WooHoo on the ribs! I need to try them in the crock pot - I think they'd be much easier to cook.
