I started to run out of time again to get my workout done, so I decided to go for a walk instead of doing the elliptical. If I walk, I usually don't sweat too much and wouldn't need a shower before picking up the kids from school. I was right. I didn't sweat, but it sure was cold out there! The wind is not friendly. I had my winter coat, hat, and gloves on and had to work at my walk against the wind. It took me 19 minutes for a one mile walk. Not fast, but not slow either.
The cold walk has convinced me that the twins are not going to the annual Halloween parade through our small town. The kids get dressed up and walk 4-5 blocks to the fire station and get some candy and a free hot dog. I don't see the point this year. They would have to wear winter coats over their costumes. There's not even a free movie this year. I'm kind of bummed about that one. That's usually fun, but we also have activities for just about every kid tonight: High school band is in the parade (two kids in band, another carrying the banner), one has basketball practice, two have play practice, and one has a dance to go to. Now, my ten year old has convinced us to let a friend spend the night. I can't keep it all straight. At least all of the practices and stuff are at the high school. That makes it a little easier.

Too much mom stuff to catch up and not enough time to do it! I only had time for 10 minutes on the elliptical today. It felt difficult at first, but at the end I wished I had more time. I could have done at least 30 minutes on it. Tomorrow I won't have such time constraints, so we'll see what I manage to accomplish then.

It's a cloudy, kind of foggy day here in my small town. I decided to get outside anyway for a jog. It boosts my spirits to get outside, even on cloudy days, since I've been working so many hours lately. My shins gave me trouble again, so I did a long walk in the middle of my routine to try to help. It did, and my shins felt much better on my second jogging stint. Here's my breakdown:
0.25 mile walk
0.75 mile jog
1 mile walk
0.75 mile jog
0.25 mile walk
Total jogging time: 21:03 (14 minute mile)
Total walking time: 28 minutes (18.7 minute mile)
My walking time was slower than I like, but I was dealing with trying to loosen up my shins.
Last night was parent/teacher conferences. All in all, everything went fine. We had only 2 C's out of the whole bunch. I've spoken with all the teachers and gotten good reports on all the kids. The boy with the C's is capable of improving, he just needs to do the extra work, and ask for help when needed. We've had this talk before, so it's no surprise. Mikey's music teacher is excited about the opportunity to keep working with him over the next couple of years with his voice. She said that his voice, and the voices of the two girls that he auditioned with blend well together. Sometimes great voices don't blend well. She's going to have them all work together over the next year, and perform together at the school concerts. She expects that they will "blow us away" with their performances. They will audition again for All-State next year, so this year was a great learning experience for them all.

Yes! You read that right! I got hubby outside two days straight for walks. Yesterday was absolutely gorgeous, around 80 degrees. I was stuck working inside all day, so when I got home, I couldn't wait to get outside. I did my first 1.5 miles walking and jogging: 0.5 mile walk, 1 mile jog, 0.5 mile walk. One shin was bothering me, so I came in the house to grab another walker, and hubby was up for the task. We walked another 1.5 miles. It was so nice to spend time with him. I miss him when I work.
Today (day 328), hubby is working from home. I'm getting caught up on some laundry, bills and other mom stuff. We went for a 40 minute walk together. It's cool, but very humid outside. Hubby made the comment that I wasn't even winded after going up a pretty steep hill. I told him that I've been at this for a few years now, and am used to jogging or walking faster, but that we'll get him in shape too. We joke about getting him into a shape other than round.
Mikey's (16) audition was Saturday. Unfortunately, he did not make the state choir. No one from our small town did. Mikey seemed to think it was pretty unfair. Some of the larger schools had 23 people chosen. I tried to encourage him through the disappointment. He's only a Sophomore. He's got a few more years to audition.
Parent/Teacher conferences are tonight. They take so long that I don't look forward to them, except to hear all the good things they say about my kids. Usually, there's not too much bad. Hubby and I will divide and conquer. He'll get the elementary school kids, and I'll take high school and middle school. I just hope it doesn't take all night.

What a beautiful day! I was stuck inside working all day, but at least the pharmacy out here has a window. My Omaha job has no windows. Things seem to be going well at my small town job. I guess I'll find out after the fact if I messed anything up.
After walking home from work, I quickly changed and got outside for my workout. I wanted to walk/jog 3 miles, 2 of if jogging. After the first jogging mile, my shins got really tight. I gathered up Bridget (7) who wanted to go on a walk with me, and we finished my walk together. I was only going to do a total of 2 miles (0.5 with her), but she wanted to go see the horses. That takes us out to my usual turn around spot, a 1.5 mile round trip. So I did complete my 3 miles today, I just walked 2 miles instead of jogging two miles. I also really enjoyed the one-on-one time with Bridget. She didn't even fuss on the way back about her legs hurting. It was a very enjoyable day.
