Day 297-Homecoming events

I can't believe we lucked out to get such great weather for Homecoming. It's a little windy tonight, but beautiful outside. Last night was the Powder Puff game and activities. My oldest was in a "jelly bean pie" contest. He had to find ten jelly beans that were under whipped cream, then place them on the table to be counted. The contestants use only their mouths. He lost by one jelly bean. The funniest thing last night was the dance team routine done by the senior boys. They really hammed it up. There was tailgating ($2 for hot dog/hamburger, chips, pop, and dessert), tug-of-wars between the classes, water balloon toss, the real dance team performance, and a parade of floats from the four high school classes. I took all the kids down. Everyone had fun.

Tonight is the varsity game. Go Big Reds!

I got my exercise in after school today. I did 1.4 miles walking (23 minutes). I ran out of time for a better workout when my oldest son called late in the morning. His glasses broke during dodge ball. I found a place in Omaha that would solder them. That took a chunk out of my day. I still got a lot done before that, though, lots of laundry and paperwork. The bills are organized and the checkbook updated. All in all, it's been a really good day.

Days 295 & 296-Do what you can, when you can!

I've kept my streak of 10 min of exercise per day going. It was a tough one yesterday. I didn't sleep well and had to go to work at 2pm, so I took a nap after everyone was off to school and work. I almost ran out of time, but squeezed in a 10 minute walk. I wish I had more time. It was beautiful again.

Today I had more time. I had to run something down to school that the kids forgot, so I used that walk as my warm up walk. It was good too since there's quite a hill involved coming back up to my house. That was 0.6 miles of a warm up. That longer warm up helped my joints and I felt really good on my jog. I went 4 miles straight before I felt like I should stop and walk. Then I walked another 0.5 mile to cool down. I'm hoping that longer cool down will help with aches and pains later in the day. Here are my time breakdowns:

0.6 mile walk: 10:55
1.5 miles jogged: 20:11 (13.5 min/mile)
1.5 miles jogged: 21:17 (14.2 min/mile)
1 mile jogged: 14:39
0.5 mile walk: 9:58

I didn't stop while jogging. Those were just the easy points to stop my watch for laps. I wanted to do 3 x 1.5 mile loops, but I felt too tired and figured four miles jogged is still very good. I didn't sleep well again, so I'm sure that played into it. I'll stretch sometime later when I get a chance, maybe before bed.

My new washer came today! I'll let you all know how well it works after I give it a try.

    I find that stretching right after my workout works best because my muscles are warmed up and "pliable". How exciting to have a new washing machine. I hope it works like a charm!

Day 294-Beautiful day for a jog!

I finally slept! I woke up pretty refreshed, kind of groggy from the supplements I take to help me sleep, but I felt pretty good. I got started early with laundry, good thing too. The old washer is on it's last leg. I think the random screws I find in it occasionally are not from hubby's pockets, but from the machine itself. It makes so much racket now, and can only handle 1/2 a load at a time, and nothing heavy. It only has to make it to Thursday. I also got started in the kitchen. I've got my turkey roaster and 2nd largest crock pot full of Irish stew and my largest crock pot filled with roast. I decided to do the roast my standard way, with wine and tomato paste instead of like my stew which has Guiness in it. The house smells really good right now. I only regret that I wasn't able to make bread, but I ran out of time with the laundry giving me so much difficulty.

After lunch I got outside for a jog. First I walked 1/4 mile, then jogged 3 miles, then walked another 1/4 mile. My total time was: walking- 9:15, jogging 41:00. I felt really good out there. I hope to stretch later this evening. It helps my legs if I do that before bed. I managed to do that last night.

Get out and enjoy what's left of this beautiful fall day!

Day 293-Something is better than nothing!

I'm proud of myself today. Monday... enough said. Monday after I've worked seven of nine days... even worse. The day started with no one ready for school/work, no one able to find what they need (even hubby) and everyone turning to me. I didn't lose it. I actually remained quite calm. After I got everyone out the door, I decided to stay up and not nap. I've had a lot of trouble sleeping lately, so I've been napping a lot, which causes trouble sleeping. It's a vicious cycle.

I picked up around the house, only grumbling a little to myself about picking up after everyone. I only picked up the whites that were on everyone's floors, the loads I was going to start today. I calmly started making the "To Do" list for the kids. I organized the fridges, freezers, and shelves in the basement where we store extra food and determined that I only needed a small Costco run. After getting the laundry started and cleaning up the kitchen I trekked into Omaha and did a good job only getting what I needed. I had several errands to run, not just Costco. Got back, unloaded the Sequoia, walked down to the school to get the kids, started on more laundry and dinner. I love Costco roasted chicken on busy days. We already had leftover mashed potatoes. I warmed up some corn and made some gravy (water, chicken bouillon, bones & skin from the roasted chickens, salt, pepper, bay leaf, sage, strained it, separated out the fat, added corn starch-YUM) and made some salads. I ate chicken (with a little gravy) and a spinach salad with tomato, red bell pepper, cucumber and Italian. Everyone snarfed up dinner. I was happy.

I finally got a workout done after all this. Stevie (10) walked with me down the hill and back up again. It ended up being a 16 minute (0.81 mile) walk. I felt my buns on the way up. Later I stretched for about 12 minutes. My left calf is still a little tight. I might have to take some pain killers for bed.

A busy day, yes. I got a lot done and I'm ready for making a roast and stew tomorrow, and hopefully some green sludge too (veggie drink). It would be easy to just skip the workout if it weren't for my streak.

Something (16 min walk) is always better than nothing!

    Wow! Being a mom is a huge job in and of itself, isn't it?!? I often wonder how I ever fit anything else in. Great job keeping your exercise streak alive after such a busy day. You are an AMAZING WOMAN!

One week left and you're at 300 days! Keep it up - you've kept going through lots of things and every little bit helps. Have you done any Zumba lately? That might be a fun little mix to add to your exercise stretch again. Might get those endorphins going to get you out of your little rut!

Day 292-Another quick walk

Sunday is church day, so I don't have much time for a workout. I squeezed in a ten minute walk this morning before mass. Then we were off to church, then over to hubby's sister's house for lunch. All four of her kids recently had birthdays. It's always fun to get together with them. Her kids are all the same ages as my six. They always have so much fun. I quickly ate lunch down there, and then off to work.

As far as work weekends go, this hasn't been too bad. Friday was horrible, but Saturday and Sunday have been much more manageable. I'm looking forward to this week. I only have one shift. I can be mom for a while, and hopefully get some good workouts in too.
