It's been two weeks since my "gall bladder" (or whatever it was) attack and my trip to the hospital. It was the first day of school and I spent all day starting to get caught up around the house. What a disaster area! I made a small dent in the mess, but I feel ok with my progress. It felt good getting up early and getting a lot done. I have to say, though, I fell into the "one job leading to another, leading to another..." thing. I finally focused enough to get a few things completed.
After school Patrick (14) wanted to jog with me. I had planned to start jogging today, but hadn't made it outside yet with my obsessive mom "gotta get things done" mindset. We had a great time today, and the weather is perfect. Here's what we accomplished:
1/4 mile walk
1 mile jog
1/2 mile walk
1/2 mile jog
3/4 mile walk
Total walking time was about 27 minutes or 18 minutes per mile, very respectable.
Total jogging time was about 20 minutes or 13.3 minutes per mile, again very respectable. I'm happy with the whole experience. I feel good, my times were good, and I feel like I'm starting to get back on track.
A very good day 261 of at least 10 minutes of exercise per day.

Well, tomorrow is finally the first day of school. I feel like we've been preparing for weeks now. We've done way too much shopping, and I haven't found a single thing for myself. I don't know if I'm too picky but I can't find any clothes for myself. With the kids starting school, I may have to take a day for shopping next week to really look. The kids seem excited about the first day and we all really need the routine.
My best friend called me up today and invited me on a hike. We went out to Hitchcock nature center north of Crescent Iowa. I really enjoyed the quiet, the hike, and the visiting. What a great stress relief!! We hiked for 50 minutes and went 2.2 miles. Some of the hills really worked me, although, I'm anxious to start jogging again. I figure I'll start that back up tomorrow. I plan to jog one mile, and walk a lot to bump up my cardio time.

Sunday: I did a walk with four of my kids. We had to go pretty slow since we had the twins with us. We went 1.5 miles in 40 minutes.
Monday: I did mall walking and did one mile in 20 minutes. Lots of shopping done though.
Tuesday: I took one of my faster kids with me on a walk today. We did 1.9 miles in 31 minutes. I feel my muscles, but I know my heart rate is not getting to where I need it. I realized that even with all the shopping I did yesterday, I did not have any pain/discomfort in my side. So far today, no pain or discomfort either. I'm hoping to start jogging on Thursday. That's the first day of school. I'll get my body used to jogging again before I try weights again. I have started eating fruits and veggies again. I had a good food day yesterday and hope to have another one today.

I got another walk in yesterday, 1.5 miles in 33 minutes. That's pretty slow for me, but I've had some aches and pains in my feet and side. I was also worn out from shopping for kids' clothes. We did really well, and shopped in some stores I don't usually hit. For years I've shopped a lot at JC Penney, but haven't had much luck there lately. So we found a GAP outlet store, Old Navy, and Shoe Carnival. The shoe store did me in. I think my brain short circuited after that. Hubby was with us and that was a huge help. I normally do the kids' shopping by myself. Hubby took the boys, and I took the girls. We were one kid short since our oldest had a choir camp all day, so the clothes shopping is not done. Plus, I'm not sure we found enough jeans for Pat and Stevie, but they have enough to start. I also have to go and get the school supplies, and I really could use some new clothes.

We drove up to Sioux City today and used our favorite bike trail. We took Hwy 75 on the Nebraska side up north. That is a very scenic drive. We were way up on the bluffs for so much of the trip. There's also a beautiful scenic overlook, somewhere north of Tekemah. I estimate we rode our bikes a total of 5.3 miles. I have no idea how long we were actually riding. Six kids means lots of bike issues, especially with the twins. The kids got to play at a nice playground too. On the way home, we stopped at Onawa, Lewis & Clark State Park. This is one of my favorite parks. The picture I have of my family on the old tangled up tree is from this park about three years ago. Now that tree is just a stump, but still all tangled up. It was getting dark, so we didn't get a picture, maybe next time. We barbecued our dinner and played frisbee, soccer, and football. We also walked all over the park to see the keel boats and the lookout. Did I mention I absolutely LOVE this park?
It was interesting as I was trying to figure out how many miles we went on our bikes. I use the mileage mapper here on Sparkpeople. The satellite images of Sioux City are from last year when we had such bad floods in this part of the country. I think I'm going to explore that some more to see the extent of the flood pictures. If you zoom in, you can see sandbags and levees that were built to protect the riverfront sites (welcome center, Lewis & Clark interpretive center, the marina). It was a little hard finding the bike trail at times. The trees along this trail have the water lines from these floods. If I stretch my arm above my head, I cannot reach the water line on these trees. Pretty amazing stuff.
