Sunday: I did a walk with four of my kids. We had to go pretty slow since we had the twins with us. We went 1.5 miles in 40 minutes.

Monday: I did mall walking and did one mile in 20 minutes. Lots of shopping done though.

Tuesday: I took one of my faster kids with me on a walk today. We did 1.9 miles in 31 minutes. I feel my muscles, but I know my heart rate is not getting to where I need it. I realized that even with all the shopping I did yesterday, I did not have any pain/discomfort in my side. So far today, no pain or discomfort either. I'm hoping to start jogging on Thursday. That's the first day of school. I'll get my body used to jogging again before I try weights again. I have started eating fruits and veggies again. I had a good food day yesterday and hope to have another one today.

Hopefully when school starts you can get back to your jogging routine, but right now it is nice to spend lots of time with your kids. Great job keeping your streak alive!

Day 256

Sunday, August 12, 2012

I got another walk in yesterday, 1.5 miles in 33 minutes. That's pretty slow for me, but I've had some aches and pains in my feet and side. I was also worn out from shopping for kids' clothes. We did really well, and shopped in some stores I don't usually hit. For years I've shopped a lot at JC Penney, but haven't had much luck there lately. So we found a GAP outlet store, Old Navy, and Shoe Carnival. The shoe store did me in. I think my brain short circuited after that. Hubby was with us and that was a huge help. I normally do the kids' shopping by myself. Hubby took the boys, and I took the girls. We were one kid short since our oldest had a choir camp all day, so the clothes shopping is not done. Plus, I'm not sure we found enough jeans for Pat and Stevie, but they have enough to start. I also have to go and get the school supplies, and I really could use some new clothes.

Oh, I am SO GLAD that I don't have to "back to school" shop. I hope you have a great week. Good job on the exercise!

Sounds like a busy busy day, shopping wears me out too. You should relax and avoid the stores today.

Ooh, busy day for you guys. At least you are nearly done which is a bright point. I'm sure you managed to get a lot of walking in while shopping which can be really exhausting. Take it easy for a few days and let your body recover,

Day 255-Family exercise day

Friday, August 10, 2012

We drove up to Sioux City today and used our favorite bike trail. We took Hwy 75 on the Nebraska side up north. That is a very scenic drive. We were way up on the bluffs for so much of the trip. There's also a beautiful scenic overlook, somewhere north of Tekemah. I estimate we rode our bikes a total of 5.3 miles. I have no idea how long we were actually riding. Six kids means lots of bike issues, especially with the twins. The kids got to play at a nice playground too. On the way home, we stopped at Onawa, Lewis & Clark State Park. This is one of my favorite parks. The picture I have of my family on the old tangled up tree is from this park about three years ago. Now that tree is just a stump, but still all tangled up. It was getting dark, so we didn't get a picture, maybe next time. We barbecued our dinner and played frisbee, soccer, and football. We also walked all over the park to see the keel boats and the lookout. Did I mention I absolutely LOVE this park?

It was interesting as I was trying to figure out how many miles we went on our bikes. I use the mileage mapper here on Sparkpeople. The satellite images of Sioux City are from last year when we had such bad floods in this part of the country. I think I'm going to explore that some more to see the extent of the flood pictures. If you zoom in, you can see sandbags and levees that were built to protect the riverfront sites (welcome center, Lewis & Clark interpretive center, the marina). It was a little hard finding the bike trail at times. The trees along this trail have the water lines from these floods. If I stretch my arm above my head, I cannot reach the water line on these trees. Pretty amazing stuff.

Sounds like a great day! Mike and the boys went over by Atlantic and went on part of the T-Bone trail. It went well until Jacob caught his handlebar on one of the posts that keep cars from getting on the trail and fell down. Luckily, he was okay. Have you been to that trail? It goes from Audubon to Atlantic and is all asphalt. Have a great weekend!

Day 254- Third day straight of a long walk

Thursday, August 09, 2012

I got my workout done in the evening again. This time I walked down to the school playground with the kids. They played while I walked around the tennis courts. I was going at a good pace. I estimate about an 18 minute mile. My total walking time was about 50 minutes. I also played catch with a Nerf football with Stevie. I feel my leg muscles, so I know I'm challenging my body. I still don't think I'm getting my heart rate up enough, but that will come as I work my way back into jogging again, probably sometime next week.

Have a great weekend!

Great job, Chris. Sounds like a fun "workout" with the kids. I'm looking forward to school starting so I have time to do something different, like getting on the Wii to exercise a bit or do my exercise DVDs again. I've been lacking the space to do those things while the kids are home.

I think you are building up your strength very well with all your walking and swimming. That's the best way to do it! You will be back jogging again before you know it. Just listen to your body!

Day 253- Another 3 mile walk

Wednesday, August 08, 2012

I got in another three mile walk today, this time with one of my best friends. It's always nice to catch up with her. I also had an active day earlier. The kids and I had planned to meet my sister-in-law and her kids at our city pool. Right when we were planning to go, a thunderstorm hit. She was already on her way up from Bellevue. She stopped by the pool on her way to our house, and the pool wasn't opening until 7pm now. Ugh!! Together we have ten kids and I really wanted to wear them all out. I called the pool at the next town over. Jackpot! They were opening right now and it only costs three dollars to get in. When we got there, hardly anyone was there. I love swimming when you can actually swim and have fun. The kids were all able to have fun with their cousins, and everyone should sleep well tonight. I even got to work with Sean on getting him able to swim. A very good, and active, day all around.
