Day 237 Need to rebuild a little

Monday, July 23, 2012

I finally did 30 minutes on the elliptical today. It was hard. I feel out of shape again. My family was great, and cheered me on through each ten minutes. My new fitness goal is to get more routine at 30 minutes of cardio several times per week. The ten minute stints keep me at it, but I need some longer sessions to get back in shape again. I'm so lucky to have the elliptical too with the 100 degree temps outside.

I had a victory at work last night too. A coworker brought a danish ring from Panera. I love cream cheese danish. YUM! I waited until after this coworker left, and then put the leftover ring in the refrigerator without taking a piece. This was a huge victory for me!

My children cheer me on when I workout too. I think it is the sweetest thing and reminds me of my motivation.

Congratulations on not indulging in the treat at work. We went to a birthday party yesterday and I didn't have any cake/ice cream. Some schools of thought say "everything in moderation" but I just have to stay away from sugar or it makes me want MORE of it so at this point in my journey it is definitely best to just say NO and stay on track.

Your exercise goals sound great. I think 30 minutes on the elliptical is a GREAT workout! Keep movin'!

Way to resist the treat!! Hopefully your summer is winding down so that you will have more time to fit that exercise in. I know that you've been busy, busy, busy. You can do it!!

Day 236-"Jump Start" ideas?

Sunday, July 22, 2012

When will this heat wave end? I guess it's good that I'm working so much. I can't have much fun outside when it's so hot and humid.

I did 20 minutes on the elliptical today: 5 min warming up and gradually getting faster, 13 minutes going fast (around 70 rpm), then two minutes slowly cooling down. The thirteen in the middle were hard, but I feel like I'm working toward something now. Over the next couple of weeks, I hope to come up with a plan for when school starts. I need some 60 day boost for myself. I plan to go 60 days straight eating well for one goal. I also plan to come up with some exercise plan for those sixty days. I want to look at my expected work schedule and write out my exercise for each day ahead of time and try to mix things up a bit.

Any suggestions on "Jump Start" workout plans that have worked for you?

I've heard of PX90, or something like that, and I just saw the "Insanity" workout commercial, which looks too hard for my joints. Any ideas, no matter how crazy, would be appreciated.

Your goals sound excellent! Maybe I will join you on the 60-day healthy eating challenge. I think planning your exercise is great. Maybe with the cooler weather after school starts you could sign up for a race and work consistently towards that goal with a running regimen since that is what you are passionate about. As far as strength training I think the kettlebell is a fun way to switch things up. I bought the Fit Yummy Mummy kettlebell workout DVD set and a 20 pound kettlebell.

I love Turbo Jam (and right now Turbo Fire), but if you are wanting easier on the joints, I also love the Yoga Booty Ballet series (can you tell that I'm a Beachbody.com fan?). YBB can be done with or without shoes and it combines some dancing with yoga and toning. Just a suggestion! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Day 235- Thank you for the support

Saturday, July 21, 2012

I've kept my streak alive still. I did 10 min on the elliptical. All the support from my spark friends has inspired me to keep going. I may only be doing 10 minutes per day right now, but it's better than not doing anything at all!

You are fabulous!!!! 10 min of movement is still movement!! This is about getting HEALTHY - and you know what your body needs. Sometimes it needs GENTLE movement b/c it is sick or injured, sometimes it needs for us to give it all we've got!

I find that it's nice to know that even when life is overwhelming I am still taking care of myself through exercise. It gives me some peace of mind when everything else is sort of chaotic. I'm glad to see you are keeping your streaok alive!

Days 233 & 234

Friday, July 20, 2012

I'm still barely doing my 10min/day of exercise, mostly quick walks or a quick 10 min on the elliptical. Yesterday was a nice walk with my daughters, today the elliptical. I've picked up lots of extra shifts at work to help with our bills. I'm finding it difficult to keep sparking, but I'm managing.

One spark friend yesterday was shocked about eight of us in a tent. We have one crazy tent. You can see examples at shelter-systems.com (I believe that's the website). It's a 20 foot diameter dome that's about 10 foot high in the center. It's made of plastic and held together with pvc pipe. We put four sets of bunk-bed cots (disc-o-beds in camping catalogs) in the tent and we basically have our own barracks.

Your "tent" sounds like an EXCELLENT way to go camping. I CAN'T sleep on the hard ground, but I think I could sleep just fine on a cot. What a great idea!

I'm glad you are keeping your streak alive even with your added stress. Don't stop Sparkin'. You would be missed! Your life is an inspiration to us all.

Days 226-232 Camping trip

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

We went for a camping trip over the weekend which took a lot of energy. I felt like everything I did was a workout. Every day I rode my bike, walked a lot, and swam with the kids. We went to a Jellystone campground outside of Austin, Minnesota. It had a lot of fun things for the kids. I can't believe how much they all love the bouncing pillow. It was a large campground, and was fun to ride my bike around so much. We spent four nights in our tent, our longest trip yet. The owners of the campground even thought we were seasoned campers. I guess we had them fooled. We took a side trip one evening up to Mall of America. The kids really enjoyed the Lego store and walking around the amusement park.

Not much time today to blog, gotta go.

It's wonderful when exercise is like a game. We should all become kids again so we can enjoy it!
