Days 240 & 241 More food victories

Friday, July 27, 2012

I'm still doing good with exercise. Yesterday had to be a slow day (my worst day of TOM). I got at least 10, maybe 15 minutes walking in with hubby. Today, I'm feeling much stronger, so I did 30 minutes on the elliptical. I changed it up, though. Instead of doing my usual program of resistance that I created myself, I chose one of the pre-programmed settings. This one gradually built up to a resistance of 9. I usually only go up to 5, and for short bursts. I repeated this program three times, for ten minutes each. This definitely got my heartrate up, whew! I think I'll keep trying different programs to challenge my body while still using the elliptical.

I've had more food victories too. Wednesday night at work, I resisted Eileen's Colossal cookies, not an easy task. Yesterday while out with hubby, I had a Thai peanut chicken salad for lunch. He had a grilled ham and cheese with french fries. Last night, I had one bite of a graham cracker. The kids said they tasted funny and I was checking before throwing them out. They tasted fine, but with TOM the one bite triggered an awful sweet tooth. I beat it with my kids' help. They got me a nectarine and then a string cheese. I was cured, no ice cream, cookies, or graham crackers.

Your workout today sounds excellent. Preprogramed workouts are definitely made to produce results. Great job completing the routine THREE times! Wow. It's my TOM too and I was just hankering for ice cream with chocolate syrup or chips and salsa. Sigh! But since you withstood your cravings I will do the same. Thanks for your fortitude! Have a great weekend!

Day 239

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

I only had time for 20 minutes on the elliptical today. It felt good again, and I went almost as fast as yesterday.

The kids have been such a great help lately, I have to blog about them. My oldest kids have been learning how to cook some since I've been working more hours. Mikey (16) woke we me up to breakfast in bed, perfectly cooked over-easy eggs. The other kids made French toast for themselves and the twins. They all have been helping with laundry, dishes and cleaning the house. Yesterday they had a potluck to go to (I was at work). I talked Mikey through making the sweet and sour sauce. He poured that over premade meatballs in the crockpot and voila: sweet and sour meatballs for the potluck. He bragged today that everyone loved "his" meatballs.

I am definitely blessed with wonderful kids!

Day 238- Elliptical is getting easier!

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

Today I did another 30 minutes on the elliptical. It felt better today, so hopefully my body is remembering that I'm not all that out of shape. I feel like I went pretty fast, 70 rpms for most of it. My kids cheered me on today again.

I have to agree with my sparkfriend, SIBLEYHONEYBEE, that at this point, I have to say "no" to the treats. Cake, ice cream, oreos, donuts... they all get me started down a bad path and then I crave more. Last night another victory. Hubby brought home Oreos for Sean (he got a Rocephin shot). It was a Costco box. I have totally resisted, with the help of my kids. I did eat pizza last night, but that was just one meal off the diet. It was deep dish, so it was mostly the ingredients parts, not a whole lot of crust. (I'm a low carb person).

I'm still researching different ideas for when school starts to really jump start my program. For now, I feel like I am making progress at regaining the stamina I had not too long ago.

Your workout sounds great. I'm glad that it was easier today. It sounds like you enjoyed it more. It is always fun to challenge yourself and that is hard to do if you feel like you are going to die the whole time, lol. Great job resisting the sweets. I LOVE oreos (groan). Last night my hubby brought home his favorite kind of pie from a local restaurant and I didn't have any. It actually felt good to know I said, "No," instead of giving in and feeling guilty about it. :) Yay! At some point we have to stop using junk food as rewards and treats. That is REALLY hard to teach children. Sigh.

Day 237 Need to rebuild a little

Monday, July 23, 2012

I finally did 30 minutes on the elliptical today. It was hard. I feel out of shape again. My family was great, and cheered me on through each ten minutes. My new fitness goal is to get more routine at 30 minutes of cardio several times per week. The ten minute stints keep me at it, but I need some longer sessions to get back in shape again. I'm so lucky to have the elliptical too with the 100 degree temps outside.

I had a victory at work last night too. A coworker brought a danish ring from Panera. I love cream cheese danish. YUM! I waited until after this coworker left, and then put the leftover ring in the refrigerator without taking a piece. This was a huge victory for me!

My children cheer me on when I workout too. I think it is the sweetest thing and reminds me of my motivation.

Congratulations on not indulging in the treat at work. We went to a birthday party yesterday and I didn't have any cake/ice cream. Some schools of thought say "everything in moderation" but I just have to stay away from sugar or it makes me want MORE of it so at this point in my journey it is definitely best to just say NO and stay on track.

Your exercise goals sound great. I think 30 minutes on the elliptical is a GREAT workout! Keep movin'!

Way to resist the treat!! Hopefully your summer is winding down so that you will have more time to fit that exercise in. I know that you've been busy, busy, busy. You can do it!!

Day 236-"Jump Start" ideas?

Sunday, July 22, 2012

When will this heat wave end? I guess it's good that I'm working so much. I can't have much fun outside when it's so hot and humid.

I did 20 minutes on the elliptical today: 5 min warming up and gradually getting faster, 13 minutes going fast (around 70 rpm), then two minutes slowly cooling down. The thirteen in the middle were hard, but I feel like I'm working toward something now. Over the next couple of weeks, I hope to come up with a plan for when school starts. I need some 60 day boost for myself. I plan to go 60 days straight eating well for one goal. I also plan to come up with some exercise plan for those sixty days. I want to look at my expected work schedule and write out my exercise for each day ahead of time and try to mix things up a bit.

Any suggestions on "Jump Start" workout plans that have worked for you?

I've heard of PX90, or something like that, and I just saw the "Insanity" workout commercial, which looks too hard for my joints. Any ideas, no matter how crazy, would be appreciated.

Your goals sound excellent! Maybe I will join you on the 60-day healthy eating challenge. I think planning your exercise is great. Maybe with the cooler weather after school starts you could sign up for a race and work consistently towards that goal with a running regimen since that is what you are passionate about. As far as strength training I think the kettlebell is a fun way to switch things up. I bought the Fit Yummy Mummy kettlebell workout DVD set and a 20 pound kettlebell.

I love Turbo Jam (and right now Turbo Fire), but if you are wanting easier on the joints, I also love the Yoga Booty Ballet series (can you tell that I'm a Beachbody.com fan?). YBB can be done with or without shoes and it combines some dancing with yoga and toning. Just a suggestion! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!
