Days 226-232 Camping trip

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

We went for a camping trip over the weekend which took a lot of energy. I felt like everything I did was a workout. Every day I rode my bike, walked a lot, and swam with the kids. We went to a Jellystone campground outside of Austin, Minnesota. It had a lot of fun things for the kids. I can't believe how much they all love the bouncing pillow. It was a large campground, and was fun to ride my bike around so much. We spent four nights in our tent, our longest trip yet. The owners of the campground even thought we were seasoned campers. I guess we had them fooled. We took a side trip one evening up to Mall of America. The kids really enjoyed the Lego store and walking around the amusement park.

Not much time today to blog, gotta go.

It's wonderful when exercise is like a game. We should all become kids again so we can enjoy it!

Day 225-Feeling better

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

I didn't sleep great last night, but I slept. I feel a lot better today. I really have to watch my evening caffeine intake at work. Work Sunday was so slow, I felt I needed a boost to stay awake. That probably is what killed my sleep that night and ruined Monday for me.

I was able to squeeze in a 1.5 mile jog in 20 minutes today. I'm loving this warm, but cooler than 100, weather. Even my walk with Hubby last night felt great due to the nicer temps.

I'm glad you're feeling better. I find that no caffeine after 3 p.m. is a good rule of thumb.

Day 224

Monday, July 09, 2012

I feel like I got no sleep last night. I can't believe how dizzy and exhausted I feel. Hubby and I went on a short walk, about 1/2 mile in 13 minutes for our exercise tonight. I sure hope I feel better tomorrow.

I found out today that Stevie didn't get first place in any of his races on Saturday. He still improved his times and did really well. He placed in most of his races, second or third. There was a really fast kid my Hubby didn't remember. Just thought I'd mention this correction for my blog from yesterday.

I'm going to rest now.

Sorry you aren't feeling so good. Hope some rest helped the problem. We are on our way back from KC after a whirlwind trip so I'm catching up on some SP stuff. Have a better Tuesday.

Hope you feel better tomorrow. I hope it's just the lack of sleep that's dragging you down and not an illness of some kind. Take your vitamins! Hopefully a good night's rest is all you need.

Day 223 & Thanks for all the responses yesterday

Sunday, July 08, 2012

Thank you to everyone who responded to my question yesterday. It's all really helpful advice.

Today I was able to get in a 2 mile jog with a 1/4 mile walk before and after. My jogging miles were 13:30 and 14:00. These are pretty average times for me. It was 80 degrees already when I got out there, so I tried to take it easy.

The kids had their conference swim meet yesterday, and they all got to swim. This is the first time the coach has used all my kids in the conference. Even Bridget (6) got to participate on one of the relay teams. Hubby said she was so excited. Stevie (10) took first place in the 25 freestyle. He got his time down to 17.1! That's 2 seconds faster than his best time. He took second or first in the IM. Hubby said it was a "photo" finish. I'm so proud of all of them.

Day 222-Spark Question-How do you stay on track with summer eating?

Saturday, July 07, 2012

Not much time again, so I did another 10 minutes on the elliptical. I ate great yesterday, and not too bad the day before. It's my eating I really need to start being consistent with. I love summer treats like ice cream and root beer floats. I also have a harder time now since we seem to be traveling, small trips, a lot.

How does everyone stay on track with eating during the summer?

I agree that if you will feel deprived without the treats then just keep the portions small and only allow one a day at most. Traveling is hard. Drinking enough water helps fight cravings as well.

I find I tend to actually do better in the summer than the winter. I enjoy all the fresh fruits and veggies available in the summer. Since my bf is diabetic, we have to watch the sweets that we have in the house.

I agree that fresh summer fruits and vegetables are helpful in satisfying your sweet tooth so I try to keep them on hands at all times. I also make sure that I do allow myself a little bit of everything I want during cookouts/summer parties. But when I say little, I mean a little. The variety keeps me happy. I also make sure that on those days that I get in an extremely hard workout before hand.

WOUBBIE 7/7/2012 12:23PM

I find that limiting my choices really helps. I spend a couple of hours on the weekend making egg salad for breakfast and other lunch items for work. I always have a pre-measured bag of nuts in the car, as well as water. (I don't allow myself to drink anything else but water and coffee anyway).

Every gram of sugar or starch will throw me out of ketosis and stop me from burning fat, so I, well, just forbid it. I'll occasionally have one bite of something just to taste it, but I'm able to just walk away at that point. If you're not, and a lot of people can't, then you should probably just avoid it.

The real problem is not the ice cream and the float, but the associations you have with them. If they say "summer happiness" to you, you're going to be hard-pressed to avoid them. But if "summer happiness" is enjoying being outdoors, and swimming with the kids, and picnics by the lake, then who needs the food? :)

I also agree, but I feel that a few bites or drinks of something usually satisfies my cravings. It's the extra snacks to take along that takes the time. Have a good weekend at work.

Things are crazier in the summer. The nice thing is all the fruits and veggies that are in season. My suggestion would be to have some snacks planned ahead and take them with you on your little trips. Summer is tough because ice cream is sooooo yummy! Have a great weekend!
