Days 214-217

We had a busy weekend. Hubby and I drove up to the Twin Cities to get a Toyota Sequoia. The dealership up there had to get it from Fargo, ND. I really enjoyed the alone time with hubby, but it was way too short, and way too hurried. We stayed at a nice hotel, swam in the pool, enjoyed the hot tub, and ate at the nice restaurant there too.

I managed to keep my streak going, with hubby's help:

Friday (day 214)-20 minute mall walk at Jordan Creek in Des Moines. It was a nice break from the car for a while, and air conditioned.

Saturday (day 215)-10 minute walk around the pond at Jordan Creek. It was after dark this time, so it was bearable outside.

Sunday (day 216)-at the pool with the family for two hours. I swam a straight 10 minutes of backstroke during the break (when the adults own the pool).

Today (day 217)-30 minutes on the elliptical. I would do more, but we're getting ready for another swim meet right now.

Day 213-I survived the swim meet

The swim meet was fun last night, although I'm still worn out from it. I drank lots of water and gatorade last night during the meet. We had ice cream after the meet to cool down a little bit. Blue Bunny, bunny tracks ice cream never tasted so good! The kids swam great. Stevie (10) came in under 20 seconds on the 25 freestyle and took first place. It was very competitive. Bridget (6) swam four races. They needed her for the relays. Overall, I had 22 races to watch my kids swim.

Today I only walked one mile in 19 minutes for my workout. Still TOM and worn out from last night, but I still worked out.

Day 212

I only did 10 minutes on the elliptical today. I got up too late to get outside. I have to reserve my energy today anyway. TOM hit, and today is my really bad day. To make things harder, we have a swim meet tonight in this awful heat. To make things even worse than that, I got snagged into being a timer. I love being a timer, but it's a huge meet against our biggest competitor. I'll also be on my feet for 3 hours straight. I'll have lots of fluids, Powerade or Gatorade. I usually don't drink those, I make my own mix without all the carbs. I think I'll be needing the extra carbs tonight, plus all the electrolytes. Hubby already agreed to help me out by giving me breaks every now and then. Hope he remembers. I know most of the kids on the swim team and can send any one of them to track him down. It shouldn't be a problem.

Wish my kids luck! Stevie (10) should be swimming another IM along with his other races. Mary (12) swims butterfly in the team medley relay. That's her biggest challenge. Pat and Mikey will have strong competition in the teenage group. Bridget may swim 3 or 4 races. She only swam two on Monday, but she looked great! She got some practice diving off the blocks for the starts. She and all the other 8 and unders looked like they had a blast doing that. I'd be petrified! Our pool has high starting blocks. It intimidates some of the other teams. Not tonight's opponent, but some of the other teams.

Day 211-Weights

We had a swim meet out of town last night, so we got home pretty late. Our kids love this Mexican restaurant in the town we were in, so we had to eat out. It was a fun swim meet. Bridget swam her first two races. She did really well! I think she might even have gotten second place in the freestyle. I was preparing her for her "participation" ribbon. All the kids swam really well.

I tried to sleep in today, so I didn't get up early enough to get outside before the heat. I decided I really needed to lift weights anyway, so that's what I did. I worked on biceps, delts, and quads. I also did my crunch routine (regular, bicycle, reverse). I'm feeling stronger and I love how my arms look when I lift weights consistently.

Day 210-A good jog

I wish I had gotten out earlier today to exercise when the clouds were still out. It was a little warm while I was jogging. My muscles and joints seem to really love the warmer weather for jogging. They feel great! It's a little harder on the rest of me. I walked 0.25 mile, jogged two straight miles, and walked another 0.25 mile. I've also learned that my warm up and cool down walks need to be somewhat slow. That seems to help my muscles more. My jogging miles were 13:33 and 13:43, pretty good considering the heat.

Last night at work went much better than the night before. I was able to avoid the day old donuts and the stress level was greatly reduced. We managed well, especially considering we were a person short. One pharmacist is on maternity leave, and the managers are not approving overtime for the people willing and able to fill in some of her shifts. We lucked out this weekend, but it won't work out well every time. There is another pharmacist going on maternity leave, so basically in July both my weekends are short a person now. Really frustrated with management on this one.

    Your exercise sounds great! Keep Moving! Sorry about work. I often think if your boss had to cover a shift shorthanded then they would perfectly understand the need for more staff, especially on the weekends.
