Day 190

Tuesday, June 05, 2012

I was able to get my workout in earlier today, before 11am. I prefer that schedule. I did another walk/jog: 0.25 mile walk, 3 mile straight jog, 0.25 mile walk. My jogging miles were: 13:59, 14:31, 14:45. I went slower since I knew I wanted to do three miles straight, and it was pretty warm out there. My muscles seem to prefer the warmer weather. The rest of me gets a little hot and sweaty.

A spark friend asked if exercising every day has other benefits than losing weight. I would say for me the answer is "Yes!" The weight comes off very slowly for me, mostly due to my hypothyroid condition. I would imagine all the stress in my life also makes it harder to lose the weight. Donuts and M & M's don't help either. I feel better all over when I work out. I have incredible endurance compared to the rest of my family. I'm kind of like the Energizer bunny. I keep going and going through all my running around and chores. I don't think I could keep up my busy schedule if I didn't take time every day to do at least 10 minutes of exercise, something, anything. When I work a lot, I tend to do more walking. I did a lot of walking last week due to my work schedule and TOM. At least I did something! This week, I'm starting to pile on the miles of jogging again. That makes a huge impact on my body and on my mental state. It really boosts me emotionally when I start to feel what I'm accomplishing through jogging. I look back at my streak now, and I've done over six months of 10 min/day of exercise. Again, that boosts my spirits. What an accomplishment!

Thanks Chris for this blog! I just HAVE to start exercising again. Maybe I will have a goal like yours of just 10 mins/day. I was doing 30 to 50 minutes a day and it just seemed like a LOT to fit in on my really busy days. I love the way you do 10 mins. when your extremely busy and a LOT more than that when you have the time. Your exercise regimen sounds great. Keep up the good work. :-)

I feel so sluggish when I have to miss a workout (which very rarely happens). It is such an awesome boost! Have a great rest of your Tuesday and keep up the great work!!

Day 189-Too much running around, then running

Monday, June 04, 2012

I did way too much running around today. I made two trips to Omaha, two trips to Costco, and more running around our little town. I know I have more trips to Omaha to make this week. Yikes! I'm also trying to keep track of whose kids I'm driving where and when. We have basketball camp for our fifth grader in addition to five kids in swim team (three different practice times) and driver's ed. Two other families have the same type of schedules so we are all helping each other out. I just pray I don't leave any kids behind somewhere in the process. I guess that's would not be a huge catastrophe, just a minor one since we live in a small town.

I finally got my exercise in tonight. I walked/jogged a total of 2.5 miles: 0.25 mile walk, 2 mile jog, 0.25 mile walk for cool down. It felt good. There was a lot of shade by the time I got out. I think that helped a lot.

Glad that you were still able to find some time to get your exercise in to keep that streak going! Hope that you are able to have a little bit of time to relax. Have a great Tuesday!

Wow! You are busy. I find that summers tend to be that way if I am not careful. This year we can't afford all the activities that the children wanted to be involved in so it will be less busy. They'll still have a good time, just less structured activities.

Great job fitting your exercise in. Do you find more benefits from exercising besides just the physical weight loss and muscle toning? I have felt compelled to step away from exercise lately due to an extremely heavy workload and I miss it something awful. Just knowing that I am taking time out of my day to really take care of myself is such a boost and helps ward off depression.

Day 188 of 10 min/day of exercise

Sunday, June 03, 2012

Whew! Is it hot out there! I decided to keep it short since it really warmed up today. I walked/jogged 1.5 miles total: 0.25 mile walk, 1 mile jog, 0.25 mile walk. My total time was 23 minutes, my mile time was 14 minutes.

On our way home from church today we went up to Hitchcock nature center just outside Crescent. That is a really neat park with a beautiful view. If you like hiking, I highly recommend it. We were just there to check out the visitor center and climb up the lookout tower. I guess you could add that to my exercise, although I went very slowly. I had church clothes on, and I'm petrified of heights. I still made it to the top without having a heart attack. I didn't even freak out about the kids being up there. Ok, I was freaking out on the inside, but I controlled myself to help the kids be brave.

Good job fitting in the exercise today. Hopefully next week you will feel better and be able to push yourself more. I hope June is a great month for you! I'm petrified of heights too. My mouth goes dry and my feet hurt. Shudder.

Days 186 & 187-More walking

Saturday, June 02, 2012

Lately, it seems I'm doing a lot of walking for my workouts. That's ok. I'm doing something! My body is a bit worn out anyway from all the running around this week and from TOM. Walking is probably best now.

Yesterday I went for a one mile walk with my oldest daughter. It was the roughest day of the month for me, so we didn't go fast. We completed the mile in 19 minutes.

Today we drove over to Blair so our oldest could practice driving and I would take the other kids disc golfing (frisbee golfing). We had fun on the first four holes. I should have listened to the kids when they recommended skipping number five. There's a steep embankment you don't notice since there are small trees/bushes all over it. One of the discs went down there. Two of my kids were able to go around and through the bushes/trees to retrieve it. We looked at the rest of the holes and decided there was too much wilderness around the holes to complete the course. We ended up just hiking a little, then found the trail for walking. I'd say it's about a mile around, starts up on top of the hill, loops down, then back up. I went around twice. My total walking/hiking/disc golf hiking time today was 60 minutes. I just counted it as walking 3 miles in 60 minutes. That's what it felt like to me when we were done.

I'm glad we were able to get the kids outside for this beautiful day!

I think frisbee golfing is really neat. I'm sorry your game didn't go so well. At least you were still able to enjoy the day outdoors.
