Days 186 & 187-More walking

Lately, it seems I'm doing a lot of walking for my workouts. That's ok. I'm doing something! My body is a bit worn out anyway from all the running around this week and from TOM. Walking is probably best now.

Yesterday I went for a one mile walk with my oldest daughter. It was the roughest day of the month for me, so we didn't go fast. We completed the mile in 19 minutes.

Today we drove over to Blair so our oldest could practice driving and I would take the other kids disc golfing (frisbee golfing). We had fun on the first four holes. I should have listened to the kids when they recommended skipping number five. There's a steep embankment you don't notice since there are small trees/bushes all over it. One of the discs went down there. Two of my kids were able to go around and through the bushes/trees to retrieve it. We looked at the rest of the holes and decided there was too much wilderness around the holes to complete the course. We ended up just hiking a little, then found the trail for walking. I'd say it's about a mile around, starts up on top of the hill, loops down, then back up. I went around twice. My total walking/hiking/disc golf hiking time today was 60 minutes. I just counted it as walking 3 miles in 60 minutes. That's what it felt like to me when we were done.

I'm glad we were able to get the kids outside for this beautiful day!

    I think frisbee golfing is really neat. I'm sorry your game didn't go so well. At least you were still able to enjoy the day outdoors.

Day 185-Summer?

The temperature outside right now is 55. What happened to summer? We didn't have swim team today, and I'm ok with that. I'm tired from working until 11:30 pm last night. I've been doing some depressing things like going through paperwork and bills and the checkbook, so the clouds fit my mood today.

I decided to go for a quiet walk today for my workout. TOM hit and I need to do a slower workout. The cooler air felt good and I didn't even take my music. It was very soothing. I only had time for one mile, eighteen minutes.

    Well, you know that Iowa weather. I mean we had 90s in April. At least it is supposed to warm back up this weekend. Take care of yourself!

    They say 55 is the perfect temperature for running outside. I myself thought it felt a little chilly while running errands today. Hopefully things will be looking brighter both in the sky and in your checkbook soon. :-)

Day 184

I went for a walk/jog today: 1/4 mile walk, 1 mile jog, 1/4 mile walk. My jogging mile was 14:22. My body was a little sore from all the activity over the last week.

Swim team started this morning for my two younger kids. Bridget did fine with her first practice. Stevie's a fish, no worries there. It's 70 degrees out, at most, and the kids were cold when they got out of the water. I don't think the older kids will get their practice in. There's a chance of storms later today. It's too cold for Patrick. I'm keeping him home because of his asthma. He can start on Monday when it's 90 out.

Day 183-Six months of my streak!

Today I celebrate six months of at least 10 min of exercise per day! I went for a nice walk with my best friend who helped rescue my family from our van breakdown on the interstate last night. See my previous blog for those details. We went two miles in 20 minutes. She's a slower walker than me, plus all the gabbing slowed us down. It's a beautiful day. I decided to walk since I only got about four hours of sleep last night from our ordeal and getting up early to go with hubby to Omaha to get a rental.

I'm very proud of myself, though, for continuing my streak for so long!

Day 182-The Good, The Bad, The Expensive

Yesterday was our day to celebrate Hubby's birthday. We decided to finally go on a bike ride. This first entailed getting all eight bicycles functional and loaded up into our trailer. We didn't leave town until 2pm. Yes, it was a little frustrating, but we got them all working and we know who needs larger bikes now.

We trekked up to Sioux City to check out the riverfront trails. We never were able to go last year due to the floods. We all were amazed that they were able to repair the trails so quickly. The river banks were lined with dunes of sand now and the whole riverfront has a different look. The water marks on the trees along the trail had to be 10 feet high. I couldn't reach them. It's cool that you can see the river from the trail now, but they lost a lot of trees in Sioux City. I'm sure more will die in the next few years too. The trail was still scenic and I like the gentle hills. This was the first time the twins went riding with us. They peddled their little legs off. We need to get them both the next size of bike, with training wheels. How small do they make gear bikes? The weather was perfect. We even found a great sports bar for pizza for dinner.

We headed south on the interstate after dark. We made it between Whiting and Onawa when we had to pull over. We think the transmission died. Two nice women pulled over to assist us. I think they were sisters traveling south from North Dakota. I was so scared a worried. Here we were, stranded on the Interstate with only small towns around. All the stores would be closed. How would we get everyone home? I took two kids and rode with the good samaritans. I called my best friend (who earned that title) and she came to get the rest of the kids. Hubby waited for the tow truck which was able to tow both the van and the trailer.

The good: we all made it home safe and sound thanks to the kindness of others.
The bad: we killed our van.
The expensive: that's the second van we've killed in less than six months.

We're taking the expenses one step at a time and trying to figure out our best vehicle options. I think hubby might have some good ideas already rolling around his head. We'll get this figured out so we can still hopefully go on our bicycling adventures, without killing the van again.

    It's hard to think about spending money on bicycles when you need a vehicle. I hope it all gets sorted out without too much $$$ spent. Sounds like your actual celebration was a lot of fun. :-)
