Day 174-another Mother's Day

We went to early mass today and were able to go to a nice brunch afterward at Crave in Omaha. It's a little pricey, but kids eat free for every adult. Today, they charged Mikey and Pat as kids, so we got two free kid meals, and our teenagers were basically half the price they usually charge. It basically works out the same, two adults with four kids plus two free, or four adults with four free kids. It's about the same as Golden Corral with much better food, atmosphere, and service. Adults also get mimosas or a similar drink that's peach flavored, yum. I love this buffet!

We rested for a while, then went down to the track. I jogged while the kids played. It was fun watching them try the long jump, especially the twins. I walked one lap, then jogged two miles (13:37, 13:51). My total time was about 32 minutes. I stretched after we got home. I really enjoyed the cooler temps today.

Time to get the kids in bed.

Day 173-Soccer games and three mile jog

Today was the last day of soccer in our small town. All our games were home games, and both sets of grandparents made it out. Stevie's game was first. He scored two goals and possibly a third. We couldn't tell if it was an assist or a goal for him, that last one. The twins were next and they ran hard out there. Sean got two or three goals. We lose count with the small kids. One of his goals, Bridget assisted, so it was a one-two twin punch! I think they lost, but they didn't seem to notice. They had fun out there. Mary's game was last and her team won 4-0. The team looked fantastic out there. It was their most aggressive game. Mary's a defender, so she doesn't get to score, but she did a great job getting the ball down the field.

After all that time outside, I decided to stay outside some more. I did a three mile jog and felt great the whole time I was out there. I felt loose and relaxed and it showed in my time. I did 3 miles in 40 minutes flat. That's my best time in a long time! The clouds were out there part of the time, and there was a nice breeze to help keep me a little cooler. I also forced myself to stretch, so that's at least three days straight stretching. That has helped my calf a lot.

    Once you get used to stretching you will never turn back. It is definitely worth a few extra minutes in your workout not to go through the muscle pain when you don't!

Day 172-more weights

I basically repeated yesterday's workout with a few changes: 15 min elliptical, a different weight set (biceps, chest, delts, quads), various crunches, and then stretching. I think the elliptical is giving my calf some needed rest too. I hope to jog tomorrow morning. It's going to be a hot day tomorrow again.

Tonight is busy again, but things slow down or at least change up after this weekend. Tonight is Patrick's eighth grade graduation. He (and I) both think it's silly. He's moving on to high school, not getting a diploma or degree or something. I've encouraged him to go and we'll get the nice pictures like we did last year of Mikey. Yes, I'll have two high schoolers next year. The twins and Mary both have soccer practice tonight, and tomorrow are the last games. It's been fun, but I'm ready to move on.

School ends next week and I've picked up some extra hours at work. Swim team, driver's ed, and basketball camp all happen the beginning of June, so I still have a busy schedule. I can have the kids walk to the things at the school, however, so maybe not so much driving. Plus, once my oldest gets his license, he can do some of the running around. First, I have to get over the fear of him behind the wheel. I think he's giving me my first gray hairs!!

    Not only do you have to get used to him driving, but you have to ALLOW him to transport your precious cargo to and from. Yikes! My older brother was five years older than my brother and I (twins) so he drove us everywhere all the time. Both my parents worked full time. They helped him by his first car with the stipulation that he would help with transportation to activities. It was nice, but then my parents hardly ever attended anything because they didn't "have to" go anymore. Sigh.

Day 171-weights

I had to take Patrick to the doctor today. He woke up with a swollen eye. It wasn't goopy, so I figured it wasn't pink eye. The school thinks any eye problem is pink eye, so I just kept him home and planned to take him in. It's a good thing I did. The doctor thinks it's a skin infection around his eye. It's not serious, but we have to watch it. If he doesn't improve, he needs to go back to the doctor. We've got him on oral antibiotics, so he should improve.

While I was at the doctor's office, I decided to step on the scale. It's still moving in the right direction: 172.6

I'm down another 1.4 pounds. I feel like I'm on the correct dose of thyroid and adrenal support: for my thyroid-Cytomel (T3) 12.5 mcg/12.5 mcg/12.5 mcg/5 mcg and for adrenals-oral hydrocortisone- 7.5mg/5mg/5mg/2.5mg. Somewhere along the way my thyroid function improved. That's half the Cytomel dose I was on a year ago. I do use organic coconut oil as a supplement and someone recently told me that improves thyroid function. I use it to improve brain function. I feel good most days, but need to improve on my bedtime. I also need to watch my caffeine intake carefully so I don't take any in late afternoon. That's really hard. I LOVE coffee. I have two addictions: coffee and Angry Birds.

My workout today was: 10 min elliptical at a fast pace, weights, and non crunch abs. I'll stretch when I'm done here. My right calf has been tight lately, so I need to stretch more, hopefully every day. I should set that as a goal somewhere.

    Hope Patrick is feeling better soon. Good news on losing more #s. Love using Coconut Oil - I mainly cook with it but have used it for supplementation, also. Coffee is so hard to give up but I have cut back some, myself.

I know what you mean about schools thinking anything in the area of the eyes must be pink eye. (I do understand their perspective - since it is so highly contagious - but still.)

    I'm glad you feel that your thyroid function has improved. I wish I could say the same about myself. I have heard in a few books that coconut oil is a benefit to your health. I think I will have to try it. Congrats of the weight loss. Keep up the great work.

Days 169 & 170-Still going!

I wasn't able to get my workout in earlier in the day yesterday. I volunteered at the school, then went grocery shopping. After that I was in the kitchen most of the evening, except for walking down to the school after school and a trip to the science fair at the middle school. I finished eating dinner and was shocked, I almost forgot to exercise. I know I kept telling the kids as I was making dinner, "Remind me to exercise, I haven't done it yet." None of them remembered to remind me. I did finally remember and went for a speedy walk. I did 2 miles in 32 minutes. It was beautiful out when I went, the temperature was perfect.

I learned my lesson and today I was jogging by 8:30am. I had a small time slot before volunteering today, and I took it. I did 3 miles in 43.5 minutes. My shins and calves were giving me trouble, so my times weren't very good. I'm done though, and my streak is still intact.

Wish me luck for the rest of the day. It's the last early out Wednesday of the year and we are having at least three friends over. Who knows how many other neighbors will show up? I think I'm ready. The weather is fantastic, so I'm going to try to keep them outside. I will also have all the older kids home (no practices) so it all doesn't fall on me.

    I often find that my performance is weaker the second day if my workouts are really close together two days in a row. It is amazing what a few extra hours of recovery can do for you! I'm so glad your streak goes on. You are amazing!
